[en] WELDABILITY ANALISES OF API 5L X-80 STEEL USING TEKKEN TEST AND IMPLANT TEST / [pt] ANÁLISE DA SOLDABILIDADE DO AÇO API 5L X-80 POR MEIO DOS TESTES TEKKEN E DE IMPLANTE

GISELLE CALOI 28 October 2008 (has links)
[en] This work shows a study of the weldability of API 5L X-80 steel using the Tekken Test and the Implant Test. The research analises the weldability of HSLA X-80 steel for orbital circunferencial welding with the Shielded Metal Arc Weld and the Flux Core Arc Weld processes with regard to hydrogen induced cracking formation. The aim is to make feasible different options of welding process for the steel at issue. For the Tekken Test two pairs of plates were welded by SMAW process using E8010-G consumable and two more pairs by FCAW- G process using E101-T1-GM-H8. The Implant Test used three base plates and ten implants, being four implants welded by SMAW process and with E8010-G consumable and six by FCAW-G process with E101T1-GM-H8 consumable. All the implants have 6 mm of diameter. For all tests the preheating temperature was 100°C. The diffusible hydrogen content deposited by both consumables was measured by the Gas Chromatography Method. After the tests all the samples were examined without and with attack by means of optical microscope and SEM to allow hydrogen induced cracking in the HAZ and in the weld metal (for Tekken Test) to be viewed and measured. By means of this procedure it was possible to observe that all samples showed transgranular cracking with length of 17,68 um, too small and unlikely to the be bad to the steel. It allows saying that X-80 steel can be welded using the consumables tested, without a risk of damage of the material.

Soldabilidade metalúrgica do aço ASTM A553 tipo I com 9% de níquel. / Metallurgical weldability of ASTM A553 Type I steel with 9% nickel.

Jaime Casanova Soeiro Junior 06 December 2017 (has links)
O CP3 apresenta propagação de trinca na linha de fusão e possui a menor energia absorvida no ensaio Charpy V. / Welding modify the mechanical properties of nickel steels, especially their performance in cryogenic applications. Thus, this work presents a study on the metallurgical weldability of 9% nickel steel and its objectives are: identify if the embrittlement in temperature below the Ac3 temperature occurs in HAZs with two and three thermal cycles simulated physically; analyze the characteristics of the joint welded by friction stir welding process and the effects of multipass welding; and analyze the influence of the filling and finishing passes on the mechanical behavior of HAZ from the root of a joint welded by the GMAW welding process. The results of the physical simulation of the HAZ were: the samples that had the maximum temperature below the temperature Ac1, in the third thermal cycle, did not present the effect of reduction of the energy absorbed in the Charpy V test; the retained austenite volumetric fraction does not increase the amount of energy absorbed in the Charpy V test for the samples having the maximum temperature of the second thermal cycle below the Ac3 temperature (723 °C); and the multiple linear correlation suggests an empirical model, based on the data of this work, where the volumetric fraction factors of the martensite-austenite microconstituent, retained austenite volumetric fraction and grain size are more relevant for the amount of energy absorbed in the Charpy V test. The FSW welding highlights results: the energy absorbed in the Charpy V test of the mixed zone of the first pass (CP1) is smaller than the base metal; the second pass generates two regions in the mixed zone of the first pass, which tend to increase the energy absorbed in the Charpy V test; the values of energy absorbed in the Charpy V test show simple linear correlations with the microhardness, the volumetric fraction of the martensite-austenite microconstituent and with the grain size. The GMAW welding highlights results: welding of the steel with 9% nickel with the Inconel 625 alloy makes an unmixed zone between the weld metal and the HAZ; the sample with all weld passes (CP3) shows the lowest energy absorbed in the Charpy V test among all the experiments; and the crack, in the Charpy V test, propagates in the unmixed zone in CP1 and CP2, which had the highest energies absorbed in the Charpy test. The CP3 shows crack propagation in the melting line and has the lowest energy absorbed in the Charpy V test.

Soudage d'alliages d'aluminium par la technologie Friction Stir Welding Bobbin Tool / Friction Stir Welding with Bobbin Tool of aluminium alloys

Guerin, Baptiste jean patrice 04 March 2010 (has links)
In the field of metallic materials, welding technologies can provide significantmass reductions and cost savings to aircraft industries. Nevertheless, classical fusionwelding processes can not be applied to last generations of aeronautical aluminiumalloys. In this context, Friction Stir Welding offers many advantages and can helpmetallic parts to face the build up of composite materials. This thesis has mainly two objectives. We aim first at improving our understandingof Friction Stir Welding with Bobbin Tool and then at proposing a kind ofmethodology able to predict optimal welding parameters.Welding trials were carried out using three aeronautical aluminium alloys includingtwo aluminium lithium and two thicknesses representative of a fuselagejunction. Results were analyzed and some correlations were found between weldingparameters, temperature and stirring of the weld nugget. This work was also supported by several modeling tools. A local thermo-fluidapproach has been used to simulate stirring of the material in the weld nugget. Aglobal thermal model has been used to simulate heat diffusion in the structure. Then,a coupled approach of these previous modeling tools shows that it was possible tonumerically predict a processing window.

Perched water in fractured, welded tuff : mechanisms of formation and characteristics of recharge

Woodhouse, Elizabeth Gail. January 1997 (has links)
Perched water zones have been identified in the fractured, welded tuff in the semiarid to arid environments of Yucca Mountain, Nevada and near Superior, Arizona. An understanding of the formation of such zones is necessary in order to predict where future perched water might form at Yucca Mountain, the proposed site of a high-level nuclear waste repository. The formation or growth of a perched zone above a repository is one factor of the factors to be considered in the risk assessment of the Yucca Mountain site. The Apache Leap Research Site (ALRS) near Superior, Arizona is a natural analog to the Yucca Mountain site in terms of geology, hydrology, and climate. Perched water has been identified over an area of at least 16 km² in the Apache Leap Tuff, a mid- Miocene fractured, welded ash-flow tuff. A primary goal of this investigation was to characterize the physical and hydrologic properties of the tuff in the region above and including the perched zone, and to evaluate those characteristics to develop a model for a perching mechanism in the tuff. A second goal was to determine what fraction of water entering a watershed reaches the subsurface, to potentially recharge the perched zone. The Apache Leap Tuff has been subject to considerable devitrification and vapor phase crystallization, which dominate the character of the rock. With depth to the perched zone, pumice fragments become increasingly flattened and segregated; the pumice fragments are the primary locations of porosity in the rock, therefore porosity also becomes greatly reduced with depth, to the extent that the rock matrix is virtually impermeable at the perched water zone. Fractures are the primary pathways by which water moves through the rock; fracture hydraulic conductivity values were determined to be nine orders of magnitude greater than measured matrix hydraulic conductivity at the perched zone. An increase in fracture filling by silica mineralization beneath the perched zone reduces the secondary permeability, enhancing the formation of perched water. Thus, the primary mechanisms for the formation of the perched zone include fracture flow bringing water into the subsurface, combined with extremely low matrix hydraulic conductivity at depth, and reduced secondary permeability by filled fractures and lower fracture density. Water budgets were calculated for two years in a 51.4-ha watershed. Direct measurements were made of precipitation and runoff', evapotranspiration was both directly measured, and modeled based on measurement of a number of weather parameters. Infiltration was calculated as the residual of precipitation after runoff and evapotranspiration were removed. Infiltration was determined to be less than 10% of the annual water budget; evapotranspiration removes on the order of 90% of precipitation on an annual basis.
