Title: The interest in outdoor activities of students from selected primary schools in Kladno district, by gender and residence Objectives: To find out which outdoor activities students from selected primary schools in Kladno district are interested in, specifically which outdoor activities they do and which they would like to learn. Furthermore, to find out what experience with outdoor activities students have and to compare results by gender and place of residence. Method: The research has been performed by quantitative method. To support gathering and collecting necessary inputs specific questionnaire was compiled for students of the 9th grade of primary schools. The research sample consisted of 204 respondents. Gathered inputs have been graphically processed and evaluated. Results: Primary schools offer to teach their students outdoor activities more during sports courses, school in nature and school trips than in physical education classes. Most of these students have experience with outdoor activities from school events, mainly with hiking, alpine skiing and motion games in the natural environment. More students have experiences with outdoor activities from outside the school than from the school. The work deals with social communication. Basic formal work arrangements is conducted from the theoretical anchoring the topic of practical knowledge in the field of social communication youth. The space here is devoted to the definition of social communication, comparing her relation with interaction and by negotiation, further then her frame (communication act, actors, communication channels - communication media, functions and purpose of the communication). Annotation: This thesis aims to reveal to the general public, what dance is in the eyes of professional dancers, and to recommend ballroom dancing as one of the very good ways to meaningfully use their free time. The aim is to find out how pupils and students under 20 years of age spend their free time and how they perceive dance as a leisure activity. This work is divided into theoretical and empirical part. In the theoretical part, I explain the concept of free time and the importance of meaningful use of it. Further, I detail the history of dance, which shows why people started to dance and what it yields to them. The theoretical part also includes information about the dance sport, institutions providing dance training, sports nutrition, and also the fact that dance can help and heal. The empirical part is devoted to questionnaires measuring how much of their free time children spend on dance activities, and guided interviews with professional dancers who let us peek into their dance world. These dancers will answer the questions: why dancing became their way of life, what positives and negatives it brings, what is so beautiful and liberating about the dance, and also why a place called Blackpool is often mentioned in the dance environment.

Vliv životního stylu středoškoláků na vybrané parametry tělesného složení / Influence of life style on selected parameters of the body composition

Title: The influence of lifestyle on selected parameters of body composition of high school students. Objectives: The main objective of the thesis is to determine the impact of lifestyle on selected components of body composition of the high school students. The secondary objective is the statistical processing of data obtained from the body composition measurements and from the responses obtained from the questionnaires about lifestyle. Method used: 60 high school students aged 17-20 years were measured by BIA method. Appliance used for the measurement was BODYSTAT 1500. We obtained information about lifestyle from questionnaires. Results: The average percentage of body fat of boys is 12.2 ± 2.6 %. In comparison with the standard, these boys have lower or below average values. The average value of body fat of girls is 22.5 ± 5%. We consider this average value as normal. 43 % of the respondents sleep 7-8 hours per day as recommended. Boys drink more water than girls. The average time spent with a cell phone and with a PC by respondents per day is 3.2 h ± 1.5 hours. The most common answers of way of spending free time are sports, activities with friends and family, watching movies/TV shows and reading books. An examination of the constraints to teaching and learning outdoors in public elementary and high schools in Winnipeg, Manitoba

Alternating traditional classroom-based teaching techniques with hands-on learning activities outdoors is beneficial for children of all ages. The purpose of this thesis was to explore whether and how teachers may negotiate the constraints to facilitating hands-on learning opportunities outdoors. A snowball sample was used to identify twelve outdoor educators for semi-structured interviews documenting their characteristics, skills and experiences, perceptions of the constraints to outdoor education and recommendations for building interest in and supporting outdoor education. The findings suggested that participants’ childhood experiences outdoors were influential on their decisions to start teaching outdoor education, and that the participants’ perceptions of the constraints varied dependent on their experiences, objectives and attitudes. The participants’ recommendations were focused on what teachers could do to help themselves and each other to succeed. Altogether, the participants’ experiences suggest that passionate and engaged outdoor educators can have a lasting impact on students’ relationships with the natural world. / October 2016

Gender, poverty and recreation in Lenasia : an agenda for change

M.A. / This research report seeks to examine and analyse the role of recreation and leisure in improving the quality of life of women. The critical areas of poverty alleviation and the engendering of self sufficiency and empowerment through appropriate and goal directed programming and strategies will be investigated. Gender relations and hegemonies that govern women's choices will be critically explored with the assumption that women's participation and enjoyment of leisure are dependent on economic capacity and decision making freedom. The underlying aim of recreation is seen to provide an avenue for women to address these inequalities, find means to alleviate poverty, and learn skills for personal growth and enhancement of quality of life. The perceptions that women have of their leisure needs and the constraints to realising those needs are reflective of the amount of, freedom of choice that women are able to exercise. The relationship between freedom to experience leisure and social and ideological constraints to other social aspects of women's lives are important considerations. This research argues that lack of participation in recreational activities is indicative of a range of inequalities experienced by women. Data for this research has been collected from questionnaires and focus groups and contextualised within a feminist framework with a view to effect change in the understanding of recreation's role in the empowerment of women and the establishment of programmes that address inequalities and social problems.

A Comparison of Profiles and Expenditures between Volunteer and Leisure Tourists for the New Orleans Metropolitan Statistical Area

This research compared the expenditure patterns, profiles, and trip characteristics of volunteer and leisure tourists in New Orleans. Survey research methods were used to obtain a sample of voluntourists that was compared to a leisure tourist sample obtained from secondary data. Visitors’ expenditures across six types of spending, demographics, and travel information were collected. Data analysis included eight t-tests that revealed that voluntourists’ spending was lower in five out of six categories, total daily expenditures, and total trip spending. Voluntourists spent more on local transportation but preferred cheaper accommodations and dining, seldom gambled, shopped little at the destination, and rarely visited tourist attractions. Frequency analysis used to profile tourists discovered that voluntourists traveled greater distances to the destination than leisure tourists and came from northern states. While most leisure tourists were aged between 35-64 years, married, and neither students nor retired, most voluntourists were younger, single, and still in college.

A Recent History of Subject Philosophy and Pedagogical Style in Physical Education: A Case Study in Curriculum Change

The Journal of Health, Physical Education and Recreation was subjected to a content analysis for the period 1963-1973 using subject philosophy, pedagogical style, and contributors as the content indicators. The study examines how curriculum change and subject content reflect change and ideology in the wider society. Justifications for teaching physical education have shifted from a traditional emphasis on fitness and character training to education for leisure and lifetime sports and the desirability of self-actualization via movement education. The study argues that those changes parallel a move in the requirements of the social and economic structure, from mass wage labor to a highly differentiated work force, and the utilization of leisure as a means of social control in a period of change in work structure and patterns. Theoretically, it suggests that subjects within the curriculum delimit and frame the notions available to individuals and groups. Thus, it attempts to show how structural relationships are reproduced in the consciousness of individuals, by arguing the curriculum content limits consciousness development as well as transmitting specific forms of ideology; furthermore, subject maintenance is achieved by the sanctioning of dominant ideology via the process of curriculum change, in terms of subject philosophy and pedagogical style.

Recreation Needs of Pre-Adolescent Girls in Selected Public Schools

There was a need to determine the recreation needs of girls in the pre-adolescent age range of nine through fourteen years old so that municipal recreation professionals may program activities to meet the desires of this specific population. In order to do this, a testing instrument was developed. The test, a recreation preference schedule, used closed questions exclusively, unlike many of the available checklist surveys. The recreation preference schedule was modeled after the Edwards Personal Preference Schedule that was used in counseling. The new test, containing one hundred questions, utilized ten recreation activity categories. It was checked for reliability and validity, then administered to one hundred and forty-eight pre-adolescent girls enrolled in three elementary schools. A trend appeared that indicated pre-adolescent girls have a strong preference to engage in outdoor and nature activities that provide aesthetic qualities. They also desire social activities and sports activities that allow their individual abilities to surface. There was a marked rejection of non-active games and crafts and hobbies and a similar disinterest in dramatics. There appeared to be a middle-of-the-road attitude towards music, team sports and athletics, special events and active games.
