[pt] FONTES ÓPTICAS PARA TOMOGRAFIA DE COERÊNCIA ÓPTICA DE ALTA RESOLUÇÃO / [en] OPTICAL SOURCES FOR HIGH-RESOLUTION OPTICAL COHERENCE TOMOGRAPHYANDREW HENRY CORDES 10 November 2021 (has links)
[en] Optical sources to obtain images through high resolution optical coherence tomography were developed. Two approaches were taken, one with a continuously tunable external cavity laser which, in this work, was modified to produce optical frequency markers, the other with an ultra-wideband pulsed source. Using a calibration process we developed in this work the continuously tunable source continued to achieve resolutions 8 μm and ranges of 0.5 mm, while the pulsed source achieved resolutions of 3.3 μm and ranges of 300 μm. The pulsed source has the capacity to capture real time images.

[en] CONTROL SYSTEM TO SUPPRESS GAIN DYNAMIC INSTABILITIES OF AN EDFA / [pt] SISTEMA DE CONTROLE PARA SUPRESSÃO DE INSTABILIDADES DINÂMICAS DE GANHO DE UM EDFADJEISSON HOFFMANN THOMAS 01 October 2003 (has links)
demonstrada. Neste trabalho, analizamos os efeitos da
variação do nível de atenuação no laço de re-alimentação
sobre a resposta transitória do EDFA. Particularmente,
sistemas WDM reais. Sob esta análise, avaliamos o
desempenho do sistema em suprimir as instabilidades
dinâmicas de ganho do EDFA. / [en] A new ring laser configuration to eliminate the gain
dynamic instabilities of an erbium doped fiber amplifier
(EDFA) is proposed and demonstrated. We examine the effect
of the attenuation level in the optical feedback path over
thetransient response of the EDFA. In particular, we look
at the transient gain excursions experienced by surviving
channel when seven of eight channels are added or dropped,
like in real WDM systems. Using this analysis as a guide, we
highlight the robustness of the approach and evaluate its
performance to EDFA gain stabilization.

[pt] DESENVOLVIMENTO DE SISTEMAS DE DETECÇÃO DE GASES NA REGIÃO DO INFRAVERMELHO / [en] DEVELOPMENT OF GAS DETECTION SYSTEMS IN THE INFRARED REGIONJULIANA BARROS CARVALHO 22 December 2016 (has links)
[en] This thesis discusses the development of gas detection systems in the infrared
region. Fundamental concepts on the electromagnetic theory of light and how the
light signal can be absorbed by gases is shown in the initial stage. Then, the
possibility of new optical fiber detection methods is presented using
electromagnetic simulations and laboratory observations activities. The software
used is the Optiwave. A scanning system based on laser ring is designed for the
wavelength of 2000 nm. In this step, the study of Bragg gratings is explored. Other
systems using optical devices, Micro structured optical fibers, coherent homodyne
systems are presented and realized. Besides, a subsystem able to detect at least 10-
6 variations of the refraction index is introduced and evaluated as a gas detection
application. All procedures presented can also be activated in industrial security,
environment and atmospheric pollution evaluation, gas leakage, and gas blasts
risks.
