[en] DICTIONARY USE AND PRE-READING ACTIVITIES: PRACTICE, ANALYSIS AND REFLECTION IN THE FOREIGN LANGUAGE CLASSROOM / [pt] O USO DO DICIONÁRIO E AS ATIVIDADES DE PRÉ-LEITURA: PRÁTICA E ANÁLISE EXPLORATÓRIAS EM SALA DE AULA DE LÍNGUA ESTRANGEIRABEATRIZ DOS SANTOS MACHADO 05 April 2004 (has links)
estrangeira. / [en] The purpose of this study is to present the results of an
etnographic research in the area of Applied Linguistics,
which investigates, with the support of Exploratory
Practice (Allwright & Bailey, 1991), issues related to the
use of bilingual dictionaries and pre-reading activities in
the acquisition of unknown vocabulary in a foreign
language. The theoretical background for the analysis was
based on Grabe & Stoller, 2002; Coracini, 1995; Carter &
McCarthy, 1988; Kleiman, 1989 and Kato, 1985. The corpus
includes English as a foreign language lessons in a class
of seven basic level adult students from a big company in
Rio de Janeiro. Four lessons with different reading
activities and proposed by the teacherresearcher were
recorded and trascribed. Questionnaires and interviews were
answered by the students. The results of this research show
that the bilingual dictionary is used and considered, by
the students, in different ways in this context; the pre-
reading activity is considered as an important complement
in the language classroom, activating students´ linguistic
and world knowledge, during the reading process. The
teacher-researcher´s reflection about her pedagogic and
discursive practice in the classroom led her to confirm and
to reformulate some of her beliefs towards reading
activities, as well as to identify other factors that
influence her classes, such as students´ individual
conceptions and their previous experiences in relation to
the foreign language learning process.

[en] FOSTERING CRITICAL FEELING: AN INTERSECTIONAL FEMINIST LOOK AT THE SOCIOCONSTRUCTION OF LANGUAGE TEACHERS SOCIAL IDENTITIES OF GENDER, RACE/ETHNICITY AND CLASS / [pt] POR UM SENTIR CRÍTICO: UM OLHAR FEMINISTA INTERSECCIONAL SOBRE A SOCIOCONSTRUÇÃO DE IDENTIDADES SOCIAIS DE GÊNERO, RAÇA/ETNIA E CLASSE DE PROFESSORAS DE LÍNGUASTHAIS REGINA SANTOS BORGES 03 May 2018 (has links)
influência direta das identidades sociais de gênero, raça/etnia e classe social na construção discursiva de suas práticas identitárias de professora, reforçando a importância de compreendermos os atravessamentos identitários que nos configuram, no mundo e com o mundo (Souza, 2011), para a promoção de uma consciência crítica (Freire, 1987) e de lutas hegemônicas (Fairclough, [1992] 2001) possíveis no cenário da sala de aula de língua estrangeira como um lugar de dissenso e desaprendizagem (hooks, 1994, 2003; Moita Lopes et al, 2006, 2013). Reforço ainda que a contribuição deste trabalho está não em dar voz a essas mulheres, mas, sim, em nos permitir ouvir as representações que fazem da realidade (Riessman, 1993) da sala de aula, visando a coconstrução e ressignificação dessa experiência, para fomentar o devir do sentir crítico que defendo neste trabalho. / [en] The aim of this research is to understand the socioconstruction of the identities of three EFL teachers in relation to their intersectional crossings (Ferreira, 2012, 2015; Collins;Bilge, 2016), through a micro analysis, which makes use of the Systemic-Functional Linguistics Appraisal System (Halliday; Hasan, 1989;
Halliday, 1994; Martin; White, 2005), and a macro analysis, in a process of critical reflexivity that aims at the ripening of a critical feeling (Borges, 2016), which is based on the awareness of issues related to human suffering, stigma, ideology and power relations (Foucault, 1969; Goffman, 1963; Butler, 1993). Thus, I analyze narratives of critical moments experienced by teachers and stories of agentivity in
their daily pedagogical practices, under the premises of the qualitative methodology of research, especially the concept of situated knowledge (Haraway, 1988), and in alignment with intersectional feminist epistemology (Lykke, 2010). The results indicate the direct influence of social identities of gender, race/ethnicity and social class in the discursive construction of their identity practices as teachers,
reinforcing the importance of understanding the identity crossings that shape us, in the world and with the world (Souza, 2011), to promote critical conscience (Freire, 1987) and the possible hegemonic struggles (Fairclough, [1992] 2001) in the setting of the foreign language classroom as a place of dissent and unlearning (hooks, 1994, 2003; Moita Lopes et al, 2006, 2013). I also stress that the contribution of this work does not lie in giving voice to these women, but rather in the chance of allowing us to listen to the representations they make (Riessman, 1993) of the classroom reality, aiming at the co-construction and re-signification of this experience so it helps develop the becoming of the critical feeling I defend in this paper.

[pt] CONSTITUIÇÃO DA AUTORIDADE DOCENTE NO ENSINO MÉDIO: O DITO, O VISTO E O ESCRITO / [en] THE TEACHING AUTHORITY CONSTITUTION IN HIGH SCHOOL: THE SAID, THE SEEN AND THE WRITTENMARINA PASSOS RIBEIRO DA SILVA 10 November 2020 (has links)
[en] This dissertation has as object of study the teacher authority in the relationship with young high school students. The qualitative research is carried out in a state public school, located in the southern part of the city of Rio de Janeiro. The objective is to identify how two teachers, who teach the classes of Philosophy and Sociology, constitute their authority in the relationship with the young-students who attend the 2nd year of teaching. Therefore, the investigation takes place in the classroom, through three methodological procedures – observation (the visa), interview (the saying) and the questionnaire (the written). Throughout the investigation, it was observed that the teacher authority is constituted through the articulation of a set of attitudinal, pedagogical and professional aspects, which overlap and complement each other. But the basis of this constitution is the relationship that is established between teachers and students. Therefore, the main meaning of the school for high school students is socialization. It is concluded, therefore, that in addition to ensuring the right of access to all and the provision of quality free education, the state public school has another challenge: to become a space of socialization between the different generations, in which the bases of its structure are democratic relations, affection and dialogue.
