[pt] A escrita literária de Silviano Santiago questiona a concepção moderna de literatura, problematiza o fazer literário a partir de uma perspectiva metateórica e faz uso de uma voz enunciadora do discurso em primeira pessoa, que se desdobra continuamente no tecido literário. As obras selecionadas para o corpus da tese – Stella Manhattan, Uma história de família, O falso Mentiroso e Histórias mal contadas – apresentam um enunciado ondulante que se organiza por meio do desdobramento da voz narrativa em um eu-ficcional, delineado a partir da alternância entre a projeção de referências biográficas do escritor e a projeção de seu discurso crítico-teórico. O corpus selecionado relativiza a representação de sujeito e erige o enunciado discursivo ao mesmo tempo em que teoriza sobre o processo de enunciação por meio de um narrador ondulante. Diante dessa nova perspectiva do fazer literário, o estudo aqui desenvolvido, consciente de que novas estratégias de leitura se tornam indispensáveis, amplia seu campo analítico, estendendo o olhar para o discurso extraliterário das entrevistas, concedidas pelo escritor para ratificar seu pensamento ensaístico e para propor uma reorganização das fronteiras ficcionais. / [en] The literary writing of Silviano Santiago questions the conception of modern literature, problematizes the literary making from a meta theoric perspective and makes use of an enunciating voice in the first person speech, that unfolds continuously in the literary tissue. The selected works for the corpus of the thesis – Stella Manhattan, Uma história de família, O falso mentiroso e Histórias mal contadas – present an wavering enunciate that organizes itself through the unfolding of the narrative voice in a fictional self, delineated from the alternation between the projection of the writer s biographic references and the projection of his critic-theoric speech. The selected corpus makes relative the subject representation and erects the discursive enunciate at the same time that theorizes about the enunciation process by means of the wavering narrator. In face of this new perspective of the literary making, the study, conscious that new reading strategies have become essential, broadens its analytical field, extending a look into the extraliterary speech of the interviews, conceded by the writer to ratify his essay line of thought and to propose a reorganization of the fictional frontiers. / [fr] L écriture littéraire de Silviano Santiago conteste le concept moderne de la littérature, aborde la question du faire de la littérature du point de vue méthatéorique et fait usage de l énonciateur de la voix du discours à la première personne, qui se déroule en continu dans le tissu littéraire. Les oeuvres sélectionnées pour le corpus de la thèse - Stella Manhattan, Uma história de Família, O falso mentiroso et Histórias mal contadas - présentent des caractéristiques d un énoncé ondulant qui est organisé pour le déroulement de la voix narrative du Je fictionel, delimité pour l alternance entre la projection de références biographiques de l écrivain et la projection de son discours critique et théorique. Le corpus sélectionné relativise la representation du sujet et erige l énoncé du discours au meme temps que théorise à propos du procès d énonciation par un narrateur ondulant. Compte tenu de cette nouvelle pespective du faire littéraire, cette étude a pour but, sachant que de nouvelles stratégies de lectures deviennent indispensables, développer le champ d analyse, étendant son regard vers le discours extra-littéraire des entretiens, accordés par l écrivain qui ratifient leur pensée essayistique et de proposer une réorganisation des frontières de la fiction.

[pt] Esta dissertação investiga o pensamento de Silviano Santiago a partir da relação entre sua vida e obra, levando em conta a repetição de certos temas com suas respectivas formas escriturais. Nosso percurso inicia-se pela infância de Silviano no interior de Minas Gerais, com destaque para suas leituras, em especial a poesia de Carlos Drummond de Andrade. Em seguida, o foco passa à maturidade do crítico, quando volta ao Brasil para ensinar na Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro na década de 1970. Nessa época, Silviano investe na construção ficcional e teórico-crítica enquanto incorpora em sua escrita o resultado da leitura de pensadores como Jacques Derrida e Claude Lévi-Strauss, interessado em destacar e discutir as tensões entre estruturalismo e pós-estruturalismo, tema que penetra seu repertório desde sua temporada de pesquisa e ensino em instituições francesas e norte-americanas. Incorporando a grafia-de-vida de Silviano à investigação de sua obra teórica e ficcional, delineada em sua formação cosmopolita, esta pesquisa deseja oferecer uma outra inteligibilidade ao universo crítico do autor. / [en] This dissertation investigates Silviano Santiago s thought from the relationship between his life and work, taking into account the repetition of certain themes and their respective writing forms. Our work begins with Silviano s childhood in the countryside of Minas Gerais, highlighting his readings, especially the poetry of Carlos Drummond de Andrade. Then, the focus moves to the critic s maturity, when he returns to Brazil to teach at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro in the 1970s. At that time, Silviano invests in fiction and theoretical-critical writing while incorporating the results of reading thinkers such as Jacques Derrida and Claude Lévi-Strauss into his work. He is interested in highlighting and discussing the tensions between structuralism and post-structuralism, a theme that permeates his repertoire since his research and teaching stints in French and North American institutions. Incorporating Silviano s life-writing into the investigation of his theoretical and fictional work, outlined in his cosmopolitan formation, this research aims to offer another understanding to the author s critical universe.

[pt] Este estudo discute algumas estratégias de pertencimento estabelecidas em narrativas contemporâneas brasileiras nas quais se observa a recorrência de práticas de deslocamento espacial. Parte, portanto, do pressuposto de que a fixidez e a estabilidade de antigos enraizamentos identitários são performatizadas em proveito de identificações pontuais e transitórias nestes relatos de espaço. Foram observadas a condição de nomadismo das personagens, em narrativas de João Gilberto Noll, Chico Buarque e Silviano Santiago, posteriores à década de 80, assim como as seguintes estratégias de reconfiguração dos pertencimentos problematizados: o encontro com o anônimo familiar, a vertigem das múltiplas identificações e o retorno ao espaço original. / [en] This study discusses some pertinacity strategies established in contemporary Brazilian narratives in which the spatial displacement practice recurrence are observed. Spatial displacement practice recurrence. It s based, therefore, on the assumption that the steadiness and stability of ancient identitary roots are performed for the sake of spotted and transient identifications in these space accounts. The nomadic status of the characters in narratives by João Gilberto Noll, Chico Buarque, and Silviano Santiago after the 80s and the following strategies of reconfiguration of the problematized pertinacity were observed: the encounter with the familiar anonymity, the multiple identification vertigo, and the return to the original space.

[pt] Os ensaios reunidos nesta tese se voltam sobre diferentes ficções, poemas e ensaios críticos brasileiros com a intenção de examinar suas respectivas políticas do tempo. Como ponto de partida, esses textos compartilham a ideia de que modernismo, pós-modernismo, contemporâneo e termos afins são empregados no debate crítico brasileiro de maneira a designar não apenas períodos distintos no tempo, mas também modos distintos de estar no tempo. A discussão de alguns momentos decisivos do debate pós no Brasil procura demonstrar esse pressuposto, examinando textos de Haroldo de Campos, Silviano Santiago e Idelber Avelar, entre outros. Por outro lado, a leitura de textos de Murilo Rubião, Renato Pompeu e Ferreira Gullar permite tensionar os contrastes propostos por esses críticos, dando a ver temporalidades que não se enquadram bem nas categorias por eles formuladas. A atenção aos diferentes modos de figuração, organização e escansão do tempo nos textos estudados ressalta o potencial de invenção de outras historicidades por meio da criação literária. Política, nesse sentido, é a possibilidade de entrever ou experimentar no tempo literário outras possibilidades para o tempo histórico em que ele ou seu leitor se inscrevem. Concentrando-se em textos publicados entre os 1940 e os 1970 no Brasil, os ensaios buscam fugir às demarcações mais usuais do moderno, pós-moderno ou contemporâneo no debate crítico brasileiro. Em vez de circunscrever um período pré, pós ou de transição entre dois momentos, a tese propõe a constituição de um limiar, que borra os contornos dessas fronteiras historiográficas. / [en] The essays collected in this thesis consider the politics of time of different Brazilian fictions, poems and critical texts. These essays share the premise that modernism, post-modernism, contemporary and similar terms are used in Brazilian critical and historiographical debates not only to designate periods chronologically distinct in time, but also distinct ways of being in time. The discussion of some decisive moments in the post debates in Brazil tries to demonstrate this point, examining texts by Haroldo de Campos, Silviano Santiago and Idelber Avelar, among others. On the other hand, critical readings of works by Murilo Rubião, Renato Pompeu and Ferreira Gullar aim to question the contrasts drawn by these critics, considering temporalities that do not fit well into the categories they formulate. Attention to different practices of figuration, organization and escansion of time in the literary texts under consideration highlights the potential for the invention of other historicities by means of literary creation. Political, in this sense, is the possibility of intuiting or experiencing in literary texts new possibilities for one s own historical time. Focusing in texts published between the 1940s and the 1970s in Brazil, these essays look to reconsider usual periodizations of the modern, the post-modern and the contemporary in Brazilian critical debates. Instead of circumscribing a period pre, post or of transition between two moments, the thesis aims to build a threshold, a zone of proximity which fades the outlines of these historiographical frontiers.
