Examining partnerships in amateur sport : the case of a Canadian national sport centre

This study explored the dynamics, challenges, and complexities encountered in forming, managing, and evaluating the interorganizational relationships of a nonprofit organization and its partners in the public, nonprofit, and commercial sectors. Using a partnership process model developed from various theoretical frameworks (Kouwenhoven, 1993; Oliver, 1990; Provan & Milward, 2001; Wood & Gray, 1991), this study examined three phases of partnership relationships (i.e., formation, management, and evaluation) to gain a better understanding of the interactions among partnering organizations in Canadian sport. Qualitative research methods were employed to investigate partnerships of one National Sport Centre (NSC). Data were collected from three sources: 28 interviews, 110 organizational documents, and attendance at three organizational meetings. Interviews, relevant document passages, and field notes were transcribed and analyzed using Atlas.ti, a qualitative analysis software program. Results indicated that environmental and organizational conditions facilitated the formation of partnerships. Interdependence among organizations, presence of a broker, presence of a network, and convergence of objectives were evident. Specific reasons for partnership formation included efficiency, stability, necessity, legitimacy, reciprocity, and asymmetry. Partnership management structures and processes were central to interactions between organizations. Partners struggled to find a balance between pressures to compete and pressures to collaborate. Power imbalances, political dynamics, and control issues primarily related to resource concerns existed, and in some cases weakened the bonds among partners. Some partnerships were formalized, while others were loosely structured and primarily based on mutual trust, previous history, and personal interest. Ambiguities regarding roles and responsibilities, and 'representativeness' influenced how partners interacted and contributed to challenges in managing partnerships. Allocating resources was a prime concern for the organizations. Several levels of analysis for outcome evaluation existed. At the community level, the performance of NSC athletes at international competitions' was a key measure of success. At the network level, effective coordination of programs and services contributing to improved performances of athletes was perceived as an important measure of effectiveness. Finally at the organizational level, factors including ability to attract and retain partners, ability to remain economically viable through resource acquisition, and achieving legitimacy were all viewed as criteria to evaluate partnership effectiveness.

The following written work is about the collaboration between the parents having early age children with speech and communication, intellectual, body and position disorders and specialists (the working staff of the educational institution). There are 9 % of children which have some speech, comuniciation, intelectual,body and position and other disabilities in Lithuania.These disabilities limit development,social adaptation and educiation of children.It is impossible to cure them absolutely, but it is very important to give support in organizing treatment, correction and education in early years together with family. The parents need to be motivated to become active participants in cooperation with specialists, to be open to explain what kind of assistance they expect, what kind of help they need. The aim of this research is to reveal the peculiarities of parents and specialists’ collaboration while bringing children with speech and communication, intellectual, body and position disorders up. Pre – school education teachers partnership' s with parents competence conception is researched at this Master of science work and it is given in theoretical and practical level. The intercourse between teachers and parents: needs, expectations and the possibility to resound them is analysed at this work. The aim of the research – is to evaluate pre – shool education teachers partnership's with parents knowledge, practice and abilities level, intercourse and collaboration ways and content. 105 pre – school teachers, 174 parents took place at this research. The results of the research revealed that pre – school teachers have enough knowledge, abilities and experience for positive intercourse and collaboration with parents. The program of studies partially gives knowledge, which is need for positive intercourse and collaboration with parents. Only the little part of pre – school teachers continue knowledge and abilities at refresher courses. Majority of pre – school teachers relies on their own experience. Pre – school teachers often proclaim that they are seeking various ways and forms for positive intercourse. It's the small things that count: Making sense of working in a partnership to support the inclusion of a child with Autism Spectrum Disorder

Since the passing of the Education Act (1989) special education policies and documents have promoted partnership as a key component of establishing relevant and inclusive school practices. Professionals and families have been encouraged to work together to resolve issues for children with disabilities. However, little information is available to families and professionals about how to negotiate and achieve authentic partnerships. This thesis makes an important contribution to current knowledge about partnerships by investigating how a group of people (a parent, teacher, paraprofessional and teacher/researcher) make sense of working together to support the inclusion of a student with ASD in his regular school. It is hoped that our descriptions of how we have worked together may help other professionals and families in similar situations. In saying this, the lessons we have learned are ours and are peculiar to the context in which we worked. In New Zealand partnership between professionals and families of children with disabilities is usually enacted through the Individual Education Plan (IEP) process. This study utilises an alternative partnership model, the Quality Learning Circle (QLC). The participants’ learning journeys are described and the experience of partnership for the participants is discussed. Data are drawn from a range of sources to identify those strategies that support, and barriers that hinder, the development of authentic partnerships. Findings identify those conditions that were essential for the partnership in this study to work effectively. Within this research I contrast the key dimensions of the IEP and QLC, showing the IEP process to be wanting. I suggest a partnership model that embraces a dual focus on both the student and those supporting him/her is a more effective tool for supporting the inclusion of children with disabilities. It is argued that there is a lack of recognition in current funding criteria for the difference an effective partnership can make in supporting the inclusion of students ii with severe behavioural challenges. Consideration needs to be given to the costs and issues of ineffective partnerships, with a particular focus on current Ministry of Education practices.

This portfolio paper aims to explore the general view on measurements in partnering construction projects from views of the practitioners who have participated in partnering projects in construction industry in Hong Kong. Measument perspectives are usually related to the performance of important aspects in a partnering project and key factors contributing to a project's success. The results indicate that there are significant differences within the important aspects and differences among the important aspects with respect to their performances in a partnering project. Practitioners review timely completion as the most important aspect and under-perform. Evaluation of key factors from the four categories contributing to the performance of a partnering project was undertaken. Results indicate that process is the most significant category. These papers intend to explore the important aspects as performance indicators of a successful partnering project and identify key factors contributing to the performance of a partnering project.
