Synthesis of CCC-NHC pincer Re and Mn complexes: Air stable catalysts for borrowing hydrogen and dehydrogenative/oxidative cyclization reactionsPham, Huy Hoang 13 August 2024 (has links) (PDF)
The application of N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) in organic and organometallic chemistry has been well-established. The utilization of Zr(NMe2)4 for transmetallation has facilitated the synthesis of CCC-NHC pincer transition metal complexes since 2005 by our group, including Fe, Co, Rh, Ir, Ni, and Pt. However, there have been no reports on the synthesis, characterization, and application of CCC-NHC pincer complexes involving Re and Mn to date. This dissertation aims to address this gap by discussing the synthesis and catalytic activities of CCC-NHC pincer Re and Mn complexes in crossed-coupling reactions. Chapter II will focus on the synthesis of the CCC-NHC pincer Re complex. The synthesis involved transmetallation with CCC-NHC pincer Zr complex using Re(CO)5Cl. The Re complex was characterized by 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy, mass spectroscopy and its structure was determined by X-ray crystallographic methods. Catalytic activities of Re complex were demonstrated through borrowing hydrogen reactions for the crossed-coupling between ketones and primary alcohols, yielding α-alkylated ketones with water as the only by-product. The borrowing hydrogen reaction improved the economic efficiency when it did not require the good leaving group that conversed from primary alcohols. A wide range of substrates yielded yields ranging from 53% to 92%. Chapter III willdiscuss the expanded application of the Re complex, including borrowing hydrogen reactions for coupling between primary and secondary alcohols, as well as one-pot synthesis of quinolines via dehydrogenative/oxidative cyclization reactions. Control experiments support the proposed catalytic cycle of borrowing hydrogen reactions by the Re complex. In Chapter IV, the synthesis and catalytic activities of CCC-NHC pincer Mn complex are examined. The proposed structure of the Mn complex was supported by NMR spectroscopy, mass spectroscopy, and single X-ray diffraction. The Mn complex demonstrates catalytic activities through borrowing hydrogen and dehydrogenative cyclization, yielding α-alkylated ketones, 2-oxindole derivatives, and quinolines. The control experiments were set up and the proposed mechanism of Mn complex for borrowing hydrogen reaction were consistent with Re complex.

The correlation between source and style in the music of IvesDavies, H. W. January 1987 (has links)
The intention of this thesis is to discover, describe and evaluate the effect of the various sources in Ives's musical style. In the first part, one becomes broadly acquainted with the development of music in America from about 1620 onwards; for certain features and phenomena there have strdng`repercussions later, on Ives's personality and his compositional procedures. The thesis describes such genres as revival singing, minstrelsy, civil war songs, household music and ragtime whence the composer drew many sources. It charts the influences and tendencies to which he was subjected whilst growing up in a small American town, and observes the far-reaching effects that his father's experimental, pragmatic approach to music had on his impressionable son. The music, performance techniques and general attitudes that he encountered in his father's band and other musical gatherings, were to become important sources in the composer's style. The thesis evaluates the effect that attitudes fostered at Yale University in the 1890's had on Ives, and also the extent to which the musical idioms with which he came in contact there--theatre orchestras, art music as taught by his teacher Horatio Parker and church music--influenced him, resulting in his embarking on a career in business. The consequences of this, with respect to his musical style, are considered. The second part of the thesis is concerned with Ives's treatments, in his own compositions, of the pre-existent music described above. His use of sources is analysed from melodic, rhythmic, harmonic and formal standpoints, and then selected portions of his music are examined to show how consistent means of quotational development become apparent. His choice of texts is considered, and finally, some connections with other composers and authors are reviewed.

Blom, Ida, Svärd, Sanna January 2016 (has links)

Introducing C-Band Operations Using a Low Cost Test PlatformMueller, Guenter 10 1900 (has links)
ITC/USA 2015 Conference Proceedings / The Fifty-First Annual International Telemetering Conference and Technical Exhibition / October 26-29, 2015 / Bally's Hotel & Convention Center, Las Vegas, NV / Changing from L/S-Band to C-Band requires not only new equipment. Even the characteristics of the new frequencies just as the new frequency environment are a challenge for the operations in this bands when changing from a well-known frequency environment to a unknown new one. This paper describes the way used at Airbus Defense and Space Flight Test Ground Station to get experience with new equipment and to learn more about the new environment. Repeatable and comparable tests allowed training for the operators and the optimization of the equipment and procedures with the new environment. Although many of the problems or features observed during the tests where expected in advance, but even unexpected results could be identified.
