In SLCCA , the location and magnitude of significant coefficients are specified by the so-called significance map and magnitude respectively . As we know significance map is susceptible , error will propagate when data was deteriorated .
This paper address this critical problem and provide an novel approach . In the significance map , the importance of data is interlaced . And our approach is to re-organize the significant map according to encoded symbol¡¦s characteristic . In SLCCA , four symbols are used to encode : POS , NEG , ZERO , LINK . POS or NEG represents the sign of a significant coefficient . ZERO represents an insignificant coefficient . LINK marks the presence of a significance-link . Symbol LINK is more important than POS NEG ZERO . Because when error happen in symbol LINK , it will lead to propagation error . Re-organized data is protected by differRS code . More important data are allocated more parity symbols .

Design and Modeling of Three-Port Passive Devices Using a Planer Transformer with Unequal-Turn WindingsWu, Zheng-yan 26 July 2009 (has links)
This thesis at first introduces planar transformers and their applications to RF circuits. A method is given to validate the impedance transformation and calculate the insertion loss for a transformer with unequal turn windings. A physical lumped-element model has been established for a planar transformer-based balun implemented using integrated passive device technology. This thesis next presents CMOS power combiner designs with two
differential ports and one single-ended port. Such designs equivalently integrate two baluns and one single-ended power combiner into a single circuit and therefore have the advantages of saving chip area and reducing insertion loss. In addition, the designs consider an annular ground structure to achieve lower insertion loss or better balance property. Finally, this thesis presents a balun using a stacked coil transformer in an organic build-up substrate. For this
purpose, a complete design flow and an impedance matching technique have been given.

Women, cricket and gender relations : a sociological analysis of the experiences of female cricketersVelija, Philippa January 2007 (has links)
The sociological study of women and sport, thus far, has focused primarily on females' involvement in football. This can be seen in a variety of sociological studies that have emphasised the persistence of unequal gender relations in the context of football. The purpose of this thesis aims to make a contribution to the literature by providing the first sociological analysis of females' involvement in cricket through a case study involving females' cricketers in a UK county. A figurational framework is adopted throughout the thesis to explore female cricketers' position as outsiders within the context of cricket, which has been predominantly a male preserve. It is suggested within the thesis that female cricketers are a heterogeneous outsider group with internal power relations that affect their outsiders' status. Gender relations as a type of unequal power relation are an integral, enduring part of female cricketers' experiences of the cricket figuration. Furthermore, the testimonies of contemporary female cricketers demonstrate that they remain 'outsiders' in the cricket figuration. That is to say, through a variety of processes, they remain on the margins of male cricket.

It is demonstrated that by joint coding of multiple sources with such an objective, both improved distortion performance as well as reduced quality variation can be achieved at the same time. Experimental results based on multiple images and video sequences justify our conclusion.

OPTIMIZATION OF RATELESS CODED SYSTEMS FOR WIRELESS MULTIMEDIA MULTICASTCAO, YU 13 June 2011 (has links)
Rateless codes, also known as fountain codes, are a class of erasure error-control codes that are particularly well suited for broadcast/multicast systems. Raptor codes, as a particularly successful implementation of digital fountain codes, have been used as the application layer forward error correction (FEC) codes in the third generation partnership program (3GPP) Multimedia Broadcast and Multicast Services (MBMS) standard. However, the application of rateless codes to wireless multimedia broadcast/multicast communications has yet to overcome two major challenges: first, wireless multimedia communications usually has stringent delay requirements. In addition, multimedia multicast has to overcome heterogeneity. To meet these challenges, we propose a rateless code design that takes the layered nature of source traffic as well as the varying quality of transmission channels into account. A convex optimization framework for the application of unequal error protection (UEP) rateless codes to synchronous and asynchronous multimedia multicast to heterogeneous users is proposed.
A second thread of the thesis addresses the noisy, bursty and time- varying nature of
wireless communication channels that challenge the assumption of erasure channels often used for the wired internet. In order to meet this challenge, the optimal combination of application-layer rateless code and physical layer FEC code rates in time-varying fading channels is investigated. This study is undertaken to improve the performance of a Chemotherapy Treatment Unit by increasing the throughput of the clinic and reducing the average patients’ waiting time. In order to achieve this objective, a simulation model of this system is built and several scenarios that target matching the arrival pattern of the patients and resources availability are designed and evaluated. After performing detailed analysis, one scenario proves to provide the best system’s performance. The best scenario determines a rational arrival pattern of the patient matching with the nurses’ availability and can serve 22.5% more patients daily. Although the simulation study shows the way to serve more patients daily, it does not explain how to sequence them properly to minimize the average patients’ waiting time. Therefore, an efficient scheduling algorithm was developed to build a scheduling template that minimizes the total flow time of the system.

Study the Effects of Core Orientation and Different Face Thicknesses on Mechanical Behavior of Honeycomb Sandwich Structures Under Three Point BendingLister, Joshua M 01 February 2014 (has links) (PDF)
This study will present the Experimental, numerical and analytical characterizations of composite sandwich structures needed to optimize structure design. In this study, the effects of varying honeycomb core ribbon orientation and varying face sheet thickness’s have on the flexural behavior of honeycomb sandwich structures was investigated. Honeycomb sandwich panels were constructed using Hexcel 6367 A250-5H carbon fiber face sheets and Hexcel Nomex HRH-10-1/8-5 honeycomb cores. The mechanical properties of the constituent materials were discovered experimentally using ASTM standards and theoretical models using honeycomb mechanics and classical beam and plate theory are described. A failure mode map for loading under three point bending is developed from previous works by Triantafillou and Gibson26, showing the dependence of failure mode on face sheet to core thickness and honeycomb core ribbon orientation. Beam specimens are tested with the effects of Honeycomb core ribbon orientation and unequal face sheet thickness’s examined. Experimental data sufficiently agrees with theoretical predictions. A finite element model was developed in ABAQUS/CAE to validate experimental and analytical analysis and produced agreeable results. Optimal bending stiffness and strength with respect to minimum weight was analyzed. The results reveal an important role core ribbon orientation has in a sandwich beam’s bending behavior, and design of unequal ply count face sheets can produce higher stiffness to weight ratios than conventional symmetric sandwich structures of similar weight when subjected to a single static load.
