This master project adresses the challenge of transforming the former Bergs Oil Terminal in Nacka into an adaptive, collaborative, and socially just environment supporting the development of a self-sufficient post petroleum society. As tools, it experiments with temporary "pop ups" with various life cycles. The project critically examines urban development under the viewpoint of bottom-up activities where future development must be adapted to current socio-economical conditions and ecological concerns.

Syftet med den här studien var att undersöka konstnärliga och tekniska metoder som kan användas i skapandet av stråkarrangemang inom populärmusik. Frågeställningarna utgick från att undersöka både generella konstnärliga och tekniska metoder, samt specifika metoder som kan användas i situationer där målet är att simulera ett större sound i en stråkkvartett. I det här arbetet följdes arbetsprocessen med två stråkarrangemang, Intro-låten och 2.0. Som metod togs kontakt med tre professionella arrangörer med stor erfarenhet inom ämnet för konstnärlig och teknisk vägledning till slutförandet av arrangemangen. Detta resulterade i att inspirationen och rekommendationerna från arrangörerna togs i beaktning under slutförandet av arrangemangen. Under mixnings- och redigeringsprocessen reflekterades det över de olika metoderna som använts under studien. Avslutningsvis diskuterades vikten av att komma tillbaka till sin egen personliga smak och det man som arrangör anser vara bäst för låten då man arrangerar för stråkkvartett inom populärmusik. Förslag till framtida forskning gavs i att fördjupa sig i olika typer av speltekniker för stråkinstrument och undersöka hur dem fungerar i en pop-kontext, samt forska i skillnaderna mellan stråkorkester kontra stråkkvartett inom populärmusik.

This thesis uses the commonly cited concepts surrounding globalization and hybridization to explore the ways in which parasocial interactions and relationships develop between American fans and K-pop groups. A qualitative content analysis of WeVerse, V Live, and YouTube comments has been conducted to get in-depth knowledge of the ways that fans interact with their idols. From various postings on these sites, 50 English-language comments were sampled from each. These public posts showed the varying intensity of fan interactions with idols over social media. Reactions were most present in video livestreams and official K-pop account posts relating to promotional activities and idol birthdays. Many posts show a collection of fan infatuation and longing for some real-world relationship, be it friendly or more intimate. From this, it can be concluded that parasocial relationships are better developed through interactions over social media sites, which has only become a viable option in the last decade. Furthermore, globalization and hybridization are catalysts for new cultural phenomenon like K-pop to emerge in the American mainstream. While globalization has been pushed forward by the expansion of the internet, hybridization has solidified its place as a joining of cultures from different countries. In the area of K-pop, this is seen by the combination of English being mixed in with Korean lyrics to create a catchy chorus or the use of instrumentation reminiscent of American pop and hip-hop and rap. / Media Studies & Production

The purpose of this thesis is to examine the pop culture phenomenon of Twilight. Using a qualitative method of grounded theory, meanings and constructs were developed from the data. Data was gathered at three events centered around the release of the Twilight the film adaptation, and the release of the fourth and final book in the Twilight saga. A survey was administered to willing participants. After the surveys were gathered they were read and then coded. After the coding process a follow up interview was conducted with ten nominated and willing Twilight fans. The results had theoretical roots in uses and gratifications theory as well as parasocial theory.

This dissertation traces the history of punk rock and the birth and progression of the “punk ethos,” the principles and stylistic choices that characterized punk as a subculture and lifestyle of which music was a part. It argues that the punk ethos emerged as a result of two interrelated tensions within punk – the first between an inclusive vision of punk that welcomed new people and an exclusive vision that aimed, for various reasons, to limit the genre’s appeal to a select few. The second tension that defined the punk ethos related to the question of whether punk would be an ironic, satire-laden artistic movement or a sincere social movement with genuine goals. The early New York punk ethos expressed a mostly apolitical commitment to artistic freedom. It reveled in humor and sarcasm, and some punks dabbled in ironic usage of bigoted and fascistic language and symbolism. In the eighties, influential magazine editor Tim Yohannan hoped to convert punk into a left-wing political mass movement. He used his platform and resources to promote bands that adhered to his preferred message and aesthetic. His tactics produced a backlash in the nineties, as punk artists – many of whom had been friends of Yohannan’s – saw mainstream success. Fearing such exposure would dilute the genre’s political power, Yohannan turned against some of his friends. Yohannan’s influence waned, and punk’s nineties success drew new battle lines between supporters of an inclusive punk ethos seeking to expand punk’s audience and supporters of an exclusionary punk ethos that hoped to narrow punk’s appeal by alienating potential fans with racism, misogyny, and homophobia. Representative of the latter was Vice magazine, whose cofounder, Gavin McInnes, maintained for years that his bigoted statements were ironic, before revealing the sincerity of his views by founding the neo-fascist organization the Proud Boys in 2016. The trajectory of punk over the past five decades reveals much about irony and its risks in American society at large.

Denna studie syftar till att tydliggöra personers musikteoretiska kunskap och se hur den påverkar deras upplevelser av musik. Studien tittar även på hur deras musikteoretiska kunskap påverkar deras val av musik samt vilka musikaliska element som anses viktiga. Detta genomfördes med två metoder, ett lyssningstest samt en intervju där sex personer deltog. Lyssningstestet ställde frågor om hur viktigt personerna ansåg att de olika elementen melodi, rytm, arrangemang, ackordföljd, harmonier, sound, mixen, text och instrument var utifrån tre olika pop-låtar. Intervjun ställde djupgående frågor om de musikteoretiska elementen samt personernas musikupplevelser och hur de väljer musik, allt i förhållandet till musikteoretisk kunskap. De olika sätten att besitta kunskap var det genomgående filtret för detta arbete. Personernas svar analyserades efter explicit och implicit kunskap, samt andra studiers resultat om faktorer som påverkar personer när de lyssnar på musik. Slutsatsen av denna studie visar på att musikteoretiska kunskaper påverkar lyssnarnas upplevelse men det är osäkert hur denna upplevelse generellt ser ut. Studien visar även att det finns generella förväntningar hos lyssnarna som de är överens om när det gäller de musikaliska elementen. Studiens svar sammanställer även förväntningarna som personer har på en lyssningsvärd låt i en matematisk modell. Modellen visade att 72 procent är det värde som en låt behöver ha för att lyssnarna ska uppleva den som bra. Dock behöver flera studier genomföras för att kunna generalisera denna matematiska modell. Till sist visade studien att personernas val av musik förändras i takt med att deras musikteoretiska kunskap ökar om musikens musikteoretiska komplexitet inte är hög nog att utmana lyssnaren i sin vidare lyssning.

I denna studie kommer jag att undersöka den sydkoreanska musikmarknaden för att identifiera nycklar, mönster och tillvägagångssätt för att bredda min förståelse för genren K-pop, och på så sätt lyckas skapa ett konstnärligt verk som lyckas få chansen att pitchas ner till Sydkorea och K-popmarknaden. Mitt intresse för denna genre väcktes för första gången 2012, och har sedan dess legat och grott inom mig. Jag bestämde mig under hösten 2022 att jag under mitt sista år på Musikhögskolan i Örebro skulle ta chansen att undersöka och lära mig mer om den koreanska sidan av musikbranschen, för att sedan kunna ha chansen att arbeta aktivt mot Sydkorea som låtskrivare och producent. Jag har genom intervjuer, artiklar och litteratur tagit del utav information som jag sedermera använt mig av för att genomföra denna studie. Arbetet innefattar både mina men också mina respondenters tolkningar och erfarenheter utav musikbranschen och K-pop som genre.

This collection of essays views, critiques, and analyzes the many relationships between Generation-X and librarianship. Its essays and articles explicate the “Gen-X experience” from a librarian perspective, or, the “librarian experience” from a Gen-X perspective, or, on what makes Gen-X librarians unique among other generations of librarians. It identifies what Gen-X librarians have contributed to the field, and what they have changed about the profession. The anthology covers themes of media representations and misrepresentations, work and leadership styles, management, digitization and technology, globalization, and cultural shifts. This collection presents new and compelling information about this often overlooked demographic.

My thesis compares classic mythology of cultures like ancient Greece to the mythology that has risen from the popular culture of contemporary western civilizations like America. While there are some differences, the two use the same archetypes that humanity has used for generations. In my work I use sculpture and photography to show their similarities and differences in form and story.
