Dobývání znalostí z dat pomocí kopulí / A study of applying copulas in data mining

Ščavnický, Martin January 2013 (has links)
Title: A study of applying copulas in data mining Author: Martin Ščavnický Department: Department of Theoretical Computer Science and Mathe- matical Logic Supervisor: RNDr. Ing. Martin Holeňa CSc., Department of Theoretical Computer Science and Mathematical Logic Abstract: Copulas are functions that describe the relationship between a multivariate distribution function and its marginals. They provide a way to model multivariate distribution functions, and are extensively used in finance and studied in data mining. In practice, there are many different copula families and no standard way for choosing the right one. In our work, we compare suitability of different copula families in data mining. We fit classification data using 8 copula families and compare them using 3 mea- sures of fit. We also use a classification algorithm based on copulas and compare its accuracy for different copula families. The results indicate that elliptical copulas fit our data better, but hierarchical Archimedean copulas give comparable accuracy in the classification. We also propose and test a modified method for modelling data using hierarchical Archimedean copu- las, which fits some datasets with negative dependence between attributes better. Based on this modified method, we propose a visualization of depen- dence in data and observe...

The Study on Kuan-yin Tzu-lin Chi

Lu, Chun-Shiung 12 July 2003 (has links)
Abstract This paper aims to analyze Kuan-yin Tzu-lin Chi (Compassionate Grove of Kuan-yin) compiled by Hung-tsan in Ching Dynasty. One part of Kuan-yin Tzu-lin Chi includes eleven pieces of classics related to Kuan-yin, and the other part contains kan-ying (stimulus and response) tales, composed of two subsections. The latter part of Kuan-yin Tzu-lin Chi involves 154 kan-ying tales about Kuan-yin (including nine tales from India), which were collected from Ch`in Ch¡¬in to Ching Dynasty and recorded on 26 pieces of Chinese literature. In these tales, people chanted the name of Kuan-yin or recited The Heart Sutra, Kuan-yin Ching (Chapter of Universal Gateway), or The Great Compassionate Dharani to meet their practical needs in life. This paper includes six chapters, and the method adopted is literature analysis. First of all, the derivation of the worship in Kuan-yin and the popularity of such belief among the Asian world are discussed. Subsequently, accounts are given that from possessing the conferral by the Buddha of the prediction of the attainment of Buddhahood in the future, Kuan-yin has been kind and compassionate to the end of all time. In addition, Kuan-yin has vowed to benefit the sentient beings, be profoundly compassionate, and build the relationship in the secular world. In order to save all sentient beings and manifest physically, Kuan-yin can give practical benefits to them, including invoking the name, satisfying two kinds of seeking, deleting three basic evil afflictions, solving eight difficulties, and creating fourteen fearlessness. To prove Kuan-yin¡¦s benevolent power, the kan-ying tales from Kuan-yin Tzu-lin Chi, Kuan-yin Chi-yen Chi, and other literature are cited. Apart from that, with the progress of the Buddha¡¦s teaching, and the extension of kan-ying tales about Kuan-yin, research on Kuna-yin¡¦s impact on literature and Buddhism is conducted to verify the Universal Gateway belief in ¡¥Great kindness is to build absolute trust for all the sentient beings, and great compassion is to save them.¡¦

Sveikatos priežiūros paslaugų kokybės vertinimas LEAN metodu specializuotoje ligoninėje gydytojų ir slaugytojų požiūriu / Evaluation of health care quality by lean method in the specialized hospital from doctors and nurses’ attitude

Bilotienė Motiejūnienė, Aušra 10 June 2014 (has links)
The aim of the work is to evaluate health care quality by LEAN method in the specialized hospital from doctors and nurses’ attitude. The methodology of the research. The research was carried out from July to October, 2013. A onetime anonymous questionnaire was engaged to survey the attitude of doctors and nurses working in the Infectious Diseases and Tuberculosis Hospital (n = 222, response rate 93.2 %). The results of the survey were analysed using SPSS 17.0 statistical data analysis software and Excel software. Statistical significance of the data was verified by criterion x2, the number of the degrees of freedom and statistical significance (p). Results. The research was carried out evaluating the activities by 8 biggest kinds of losses. The results of overproduction losses have shown that 71 per cent of the respondents are of the opinion that operational activities include the excess of medical research. 90 per cent of the respondents admit feeling tiredness, and 83 per cent agree that excessive workload reduces health care quality. 87 per cent of the respondents indicate that their work is dominated by routine actions. 15 per cent state that motivation to work in their institution is sufficient while the rest part note that it is insufficient. 36 per cent of the respondents experience illegal patients’ requirements, and 14 per cent of them have to deal with illegal managers’ requirements. Due to this reason, the staff feel psychological pressure which increases stress... [to full text]

Manažerská komunikace ve vybrané organizaci / Managerial Communication In a Selected Organization

VEISHEIPLOVÁ, Lucie January 2018 (has links)
The art of communication is one of the most essential skills that a successful manager should have. This ability of communication can be a deciding factor in negotiating with both the business partners and the general public. Effective communication lies primarily in understanding the message of the other person and the feedback. So it is necessary to be interested in how efficiently the information is passed, either in an internal or external communication. The main aim of this diploma thesis is to analyse managerial communication in a selected organization and to make proposals for its improvement. For the practical part of this thesis, I have chosen EXTRUDO Bečice s.r.o. based in Bečice that was founded in 1994. On the basis of materials obtained from an interview with the director of the company, particular areas of managerial communication are defined in this part of the thesis. In addition, a questionnaire survey was conducted to find out attitudes and opinions of the employees. After evaluating the information obtained from the interview with the company director and the questionnaire survey, the proposals and suggestions for possible improvements in individual areas of managerial communication were submitted.

Especies naturales, leyes causales y conceptos mágicos: una aproximación a lo real maravilloso americano

Schumacher, Christian 09 April 2018 (has links) (PDF)
Natural Kinds, Causal Laws, Magical Concepts: an Approach to American Magical Realism”. Throughout Latin American history of ideas one can find an alienated relation towards nature, which appears as magical, indecipherable and hostile. The two main characteristics of this idea of nature are the abundance of strange species and the unpredictability of events. In this essay I will argue that the first characteristic is a natural effect of the process of inductive learning under the conditions of the discovery and conquest of America, and that the second characteristic is in turn an effect of the way how the empirical expectations with these strange species were cast in causal laws.

Borderline consciousness, phenomenal consciousness, and artificial consciousness : a unified approach

Chin, Chuanfei January 2015 (has links)
Borderline conscious creatures are neither definitely conscious nor definitely not conscious. In this thesis, I explain what borderline consciousness is and why it poses a significant epistemological challenge to scientists who investigate phenomenal consciousness as a natural kind. When these scientists discover more than one overlapping kind in their samples of conscious creatures, how can they identify the kind to which all and only conscious creatures belong? After assessing three pessimistic responses, I argue that different groups of scientists can legitimately use the concept of phenomenal consciousness to refer to different kinds, in accord with their empirical interests. They can thereby resolve three related impasses on the status of borderline conscious creatures, the neural structure of phenomenal consciousness, and the possibility of artificial consciousness. The thesis has three parts: First, I analyse the concept of borderline consciousness. My analysis counters several arguments which conclude that borderline consciousness is inconceivable. Then I explain how borderline consciousness produces the multiple kinds problem in consciousness science. Second, I assess three recent philosophical responses to this problem. One response urges scientists to eliminate the concept of consciousness, while another judges them to be irremediably ignorant of the nature of consciousness. The final response concludes that scientific progress is limited by the concept's referential indeterminacy. I argue that these responses are too pessimistic, though they point to a more promising approach. Third, I propose that empirically constrained stipulation can solve the multiple kinds problem. Biologists face the same problem because of their longstanding controversy over what counts as a species. Building on new arguments for stipulating the reference of species concepts, I demonstrate that this use of stipulation in biology is neither epistemologically complacent nor metaphysically capricious; it also need not sow semantic confusion. Then I defend its use in consciousness science. My approach is shown to be consistent with our understanding of natural kinds, borderline cases, and phenomenal consciousness.

Reading activities in Swedish EFL textbooks: An analysis of reading activities as a tool for the development of reading strategies

Fontasiewicz, Karolina, Dahdouli, Manal January 2020 (has links)
In traditional EFL classrooms, teachers often tend to relay on textbooks where the reading material is a text usually followed by reading activities. Consequently, this material does not really provide students with the reading strategies necessary to become succesful readers. Successful readers should posess the ability to apply appropriate kinds of reading and reading strategies and to do that the teacher needs to provide the students with the right teaching material. Therefore, this degree project analyses three EFL textbooks for upper secondary school in the Swedish context, namely Context 2, Pick & Mix 2 and Viewponts 2. The present study explores if the reading activities in the textbooks provide learners with the opportunity to develop their reading skills by including different kinds of reading and reading strategies. Moreover, the researchers use a qualitative content analysis and criteria to conduct their study. The results reveal that the textbooks do consist of reading activities which allow for different kinds of reading. Two of the textbooks analysed, Pick & Mix 2 and Context 2, entail activities which require the readers to be able to use the majority of different kinds of reading. One textbook, however, shows lack of activities that allow learners to train their skimming ability. Finally, the textbooks do not provide learners with sufficient reading activities that include the three processes: before-, during- and after- reading.

A Study on the Cable Viewer¡¦s Motivation and Behavior on Home Shopping Channels In the Taipei Area

YEH, HWA-YANG 29 August 2001 (has links)
Abstract This paper studies the audience¡¦s motivation in watching ¡§shopping channels¡¨ in cable television (TV) program, the relationship between watching and shopping behaviors, and investigate factors influence motivation and behaviors. The subjects are cable TV audience. The method is by telephone to find audiences¡¦ response to the questionnaire. Through data collection and statistic analysis the results show that the major motivations for audiences to watch ¡§shopping channels¡¨ are ¡§needs to information¡¨, ¡§entertainments¡¨ and ¡§social activity¡¨. Among these three, ¡§ needs to information¡¨ has the most correspondent. For watching behavior¡¦s aspect, the frequency of receiving ¡§shopping channels¡¨ is low. There are only 4.1% of responding rate in ¡§often watch¡¨ and ¡§daily watch¡¨. The most frequent watching hour is between 19~23 o¡¦clock as the rest of the local people in receiving other programs. However, the watching time is within 30 minutes every time (89.8%). In respect of shopping behavior, there are 57.6% shares of respondent express they will ¡§compare with other stores¡¨ or ¡§to listen to other¡¦s opinion¡¨ before decisions of shopping. This category belongs to reasonable type of shoppers. For shopping frequency, there are about 70% respondents express ¡§never buy¡¨, and around 30% expresses having shopping experiences in cable TV ¡§shopping channel¡¨. Concerning the shopping products, there are mainly 6 categories in sequential. The kitchen utensils share the most (32.4%), followed by ¡§cleaning products¡¨, ¡§fitness products¡¨, ¡§weight lost, weight control or on diet products¡¨, ¡§cosmetics¡¦, and ¡§electronic products¡¨. The study also finds personal traits will influence the audiences¡¦ ¡§watching motivation¡¨ ¡§watching behavior¡¨ and ¡§shopping behavior¡¨. For educational background consideration, the study shows respondents with higher educational level have less watching time and shopping frequencies in ¡§shopping channel¡¨. Hence, this is not the major consuming group for ¡§shopping channel¡¨, in stead they tends to be looking for ¡§entertainments¡¨ purposes. For junior high school level of education have highest shopping frequency (47.5%). Hence ¡§needs to information¡¨ has most of the watching motivation (63.9%). In behaviors wise, students have the least watching frequency and time, belongs to the group of ¡§ listen to other¡¦s opinion, then make decisions¡¨ category. Housewives are the major consuming group for ¡§shopping channel¡¨. The research also finds the ¡§watch time¡¨ will influence the ¡§shopping motivation¡¨. The longer the watching hour is, the stronger the shopping motivation. Shoppers being ¡¨reasonable¡¦ has less watching hour. This means the ¡§watching frequency¡¨ and ¡§watching time¡¨ have positive relationship to shopping behaviors. ¡§Shopping channel¡¨ is one the most popular channels in USA. It is also developing in promising direction with market potential in Mainland China. In Taiwan, as individual system develops, there are many more ¡§shopping channels¡¨ available. This reflects the competing situation. However, while the writer looks for broad casting, or management institutions, there has no study at all focusing on this type of channel yet. This research takes initials of ¡§quantitize¡¨ consideration to provide some contributions in mediating behavior for audiences, system operators, and channel operators.
