Hodnoty a životní cíle sociálních pracovníků / Values and life goals of social workers

PEJCHOVÁ, Nika January 2015 (has links)
This thesis examines values and life goals of social workers. It is written in such way that theoretical background is connected and compared with the results of my own survey. The participants of the survey were social work sudents, social workers, economics students and people employed in the field of economics. The thesis takes a closer look at values in social work. Some issues here may be caused by the fact that there is not really a widespread definition of what values actually are. That is also the reason why the thesis examines factors that are crucial during the process of embracing values by individuals and also the influence of variables during the examination. In order to fulfil the goal of my thesis, I chose three topics for the interviews. The three topics were family, job and future. Based on the survey, I found personal and work values of social workers as well as their life goals.

The aim of this dissertation is to analyze Brazilian Portuguese (hereafter BP) speakers pronunciation of Anglicisms, i.e. English words or expressions used in other languages, in order to study how these words are adapted to the target language at a phonological level. Such analysis will serve to discuss the nature of these words or phrases when they are pronounced in the BP context. The corpus comprises Anglicisms which have not yet been graphically adapted to BP. The source is a collection of text extracts from the popular magazine, Veja , covering the period January to June, 2005. Within this corpus, 290 terms were identified, accounting for a total of 1,326 occurrences. Two speakers of BP were requested to read aloud some 50 sentences, each of which was selected from the sample magazine texts. The samples were selected on the basis that they contained 50 of the most frequently occurring Anglicisms. The reading was recorded so that the subjects pronunciation might be transcribed, both phonetically and phonologically. Based on these same transcriptions, it was possible to analyze phonologically the phonetic patterns in a non-linear approach, comparing the standard American pronunciation of such words with the subjects BP pronunciation. Following this comparative analysis, it was possible to identify the phonological processes employed by the BP speakers when pronouncing the said words and adapting them to their phonological system. Notable elements included the following: the addition of an epenthetic vowel /e/, (pronounced [i]), in order to break down complex onsets or simple or complex codas which are non-licensed in BP and the consequent change in the syllabic structure of the word; change in the position of word stress; vocalization of /l/ in the coda of syllables; nasalization of vowels followed by nasal consonants; deletion of plosive consonants in the coda of the end of words... Caracterização termodinamica de reservatorios com gradiente termico horizontal / Thermodynamic caracterization of the reservoir with horizontal thermal gradient

Maldonado, Anibal Ruben 07 April 2005 (has links)
Como resultado são gerados mapas bidimensionais de composição e densidade / Abstract: The main goal of this work is improve the thermodynamics parameters characterization in petroleum reservoirs that have not been produced yet and show vertical and horizontal thermal gradient. We have constructed a mathematical model considering a homogenous system formed by three pseudo components in a two-dimensional reservoir model and simplified petrophysical properties. With the proposed mathematical modeling was possible to solve simultaneously the equations system from the material balance of the components. The most important concept introduced into the mathematical model, is the molecular diffusive flux that is linked to the material balance. The molecular diffusive flux of a given component depends not only on its composition gradient (mutual diffusion), but also on the composition gradient of all other components in the mixture (cross-molecular diffusion) and on pressure and thermal gradients. In order to obtain a resolution matrix system, a numerical algorithm was built based on finite difference. Such numerical algorithm supposes that the initial point is a pseudo-transient state with homogenous composition reservoir that reaches the steady state in the thermodynamic equilibrium. As a result, two-dimensional maps of density and composition were generated. / Mestrado / Reservatórios e Gestão / Mestre em Ciências e Engenharia de Petróleo

New words : a study of applied linguistic relativity and the types and historical development of word formation in literature

Birth, Ann-Inga January 2015 (has links)
This thesis is a literary linguistic study of lexical innovation in fiction. It uses corpus linguistic methods and concepts of morphological theory to develop a new word typology and to examine new words as to their role in directing a reader's imagination and with regard to their frequency and distribution in classic English literature between 1750 and 1923. A 56 million word corpus consisting of a homogenous variety of texts converted from online literature databases serves as the basis for a chronologically structured new word extraction. This is carried out aided by the concordancer programme AntConc. The following three aspects are addressed in this research. The first attempts to explain why certain new words appear newer than other equally novel forms. It demonstrates that the factors influencing a word's novelty effect are wordlike-ness, morpheme content, and formal and semantic analogy. A new word typology is derived from these. A second main section focuses on stylistic aspects. If the words we use influence the way we think, as theorised in the principle of linguistic relativity, then forming new words and reading these should influence the way we think about what they describe. The second element identifies the strategies authors may use to affect their readers' associations through word formation. A third section is a frequency and distribution analysis of the new words extracted, taking historical developments, text mode and form, genre, and new word types into account. It adds quantitative data to the qualitative investigation preceding it, showing that verse and prose, text forms, and genres as well as time periods differ in the new words they produce and providing evidence for the characteristics of each.

Digital Forensics in Second Life

Rakitianskaia, A.S. (Anastassia Sergeevna) January 2015 (has links)
Computers and the internet have become an integral part of our lives. People have grown accustomed to feeling constantly connected to the outside world, and in the past couple of decades online social networks and three-dimensional online virtual worlds have gained great popularity. In addition to social connections, virtual worlds (such as Second Life, a popular virtual world) offer their users opportunities for both work and play, and let them take part in things that might have been impossible in real life. However, the human factor plays a big role in the formation of the virtual community. The feeling of false anonymity online might lead to a feeling of freedom from any laws that govern the real world, and possibly facilitate offensive behaviour. The problem addressed by this study is the need to determine whether digital forensic techniques can be applied to an incident inside the Second Life environment (i.e. offensive behaviour between avatars, while logged in to Second Life), as well as to find possible sources of evidence accessible via the standard Second Life viewer. The former also requires a classification of various offenses committed in Second Life, in order to determine which actions are to be regarded as offences, and whether these actions occur inside or outside of the Second Life environment. In this dissertation the author’s own classification of various real-life offences is provided, together with a mapping of these offences to their alternatives in Second Life. Second Life is analysed and explored from a forensic perspective. A new digital forensic process model, derived from various existing models in the literature, has been developed by the author for this study. The model is designed to accommodate for the specifics of a virtual world environment. An exploratory experiment has been undertaken by the author in order to investigate how inexperienced users perceived Second Life, as well as how they reacted to attacks from other users, to identify the possible sources of evidence, and suggest possible digital forensic techniques based on the gathered data. / Dissertation (MSc)--University of Pretoria, 2015. / Computer Science / MSc / Unrestricted
