Among Georg Philipp Telemann’s most-performed works is his setting of Psalm 117 (Psalm 116, Vulgate), Laudate Jehovam, TWV 7:25. There are three sources; Telemann’s autograph score (heavily marked and corrected by Telemann’s grandson, Georg Michael), a contemporary set of parts by a copyist, and another set of parts by Georg Michael Telemann based on his corrections to the autograph score. There are currently at least seven editions of this work readily available, none of which fully agrees with the autograph manuscript or original parts. The editions also differ substantially from one another: for example, two of them are in a different key from the others. This clearly points to the need for a new edition.
Further, the additions and corrections by Georg Michael Telemann are interesting. These fall into several categories: changes made to correct errors or clarify ambiguities in Georg Philipp Telemann’s original, changes made to reflect performance practice that Georg Philipp might have assumed but that were no longer customary in Georg Michael’s time, adjustments to melody and rhythm that may reflect Georg Michael’s personal taste and preference, and the addition of parts for oboe and viola, along with significant changes to the second violin part that suggest that Georg Michael’s version was intended for performance by a chorus and orchestra, whereas Georg Philipp’s original could be performed as a chamber work, with one singer and instrumentalist per part, or by a larger ensemble.
A discussion of the piece, along with scores of both the original version and Georg Michael’s version, provides both scholars and performers with greater insight into this brief but significant work. / Dissertation/Thesis / Doctoral Dissertation Music 2019

Biocompatibility And Biomechanical Properties Of New Polycaprolactone-bioglass Based Bone Implant MaterialsErdemli, Ozge 01 September 2007 (has links) (PDF)
Researches on bone defects are focused on the use of composites due to the
composite and well-organized hierarchical structure of the bone. In this study,
it is aimed to develop Polycaprolactone based implants with different organic & / #8211 / DBM, HYA- and/or inorganic & / #8211 / bioglass, calcium sulfate- compositions for
augmenting bone healing.
Bioactivity of the discs was evaluated by scanning electron microscopy and
EDS analysis after incubation in SBF for 1, 7 and 14 days. All bioglass
containing groups showed apatite molecules at different incubation times.
Degradation studies demonstrated that only PCL/BG/HYA discs had fast
degradation upon incubations in PBS (4 and 6 weeks). Initial mechanical
properties of composites were found to be directly related to the composition.
However, decreases in disc mechanical properties were also obtained in the
same order with the amount of water uptake at composite groups.
According to biocompatibility studies investigated with cytotoxicity tests on
Saos-2 cells, all groups, except the HYA involving one were found as
biocompatible.
After in vivo application of discs to critical size defects on rabbit humeri (for 7
weeks), their efficacy on healing was studied with computerized tomography,
SEM and biomechanical tests. The results revealed that bone-implant
interface formation has started for all groups with high bone densities at the
interface of implant groups compared to empty defect sites of negative
controls. Also the healing was suggested to be gradual from bone to implant
site as microhardness values increased at regions closer to bone. However,
regeneration was found to not reach to healthy bone levels.

Vibration Analysis In The Diagnosis Of Bone Mineral Density In Healthy And Osteopenic Radius Bone And Its Correlation To Muscle StrengthOzdurak, Rabia Hurrem 01 July 2003 (has links) (PDF)
Muscle strength is assumed to be closely related with BMD, the so called determinant of bone strength, however, new methods for bone strength measurement are arising. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between bone mineral density (BMD), muscle strength and natural frequency of the radius in the dominant and non-dominant arm in healthy and osteopenic individuals aged between 50-70 years. Sixty sedentary male (thirty healthy and thirty osteopenic) participated this study. Bone mineral density assessment was performed by dual x-ray absorbtiometry (DEXA) and quantitative computed tomography (QCT), whereas muscle strength was measured by an isokinetic dynamometer quantitatively. Natural frequency of the radius was determined by a dual channel frequency analyzer. Differences between BMD, muscle strength and natural frequency in healthy and osteopenic participants according to dominancy were examined by Analysis of Variance (ANOVA).
Pearson Product Correlation Coefficient test was conducted to determine the magnitude of the correlation between cortical, trabecular and average BMD, muscle strength and natural frequency. Results demonstrated a statistically significant difference between BMD, natural frequency and muscle strength in the dominant arm of both groups. There was also a significant difference in the non-dominant arm in terms of BMD, natural frequency and muscle strength, except in total work in the non-dominant arms. Moreover, there was a moderate positive correlation between BMD measured by DEXA and natural frequency in the dominant arm (r = ,59 / p < / .001) and non-dominant arm (r = 0,64 / p < / 0.001), whereas the muscle strength was correlated to BMD with a low positive correlation in terms of peak torque in extension (r = ,36 / p = ,005), peak torque in flexion (r = ,31 / p = ,016), total work in extension (r = ,28 / p = ,030) and total work in flexion (r = ,27 / p = ,041) in the dominant arms. The correlation between muscle strength and BMD was not significant in the non-dominant arm. The highest correlation between natural frequency and bone geometry parameters was observed in cortical thickness
(r = ,82 / p = ,02). A statistically significant positive correlation (r = ,81 / p = ,04) was also observed between average BMD measured by QCT and by DEXA. In summary, according to the findings of this study, it can be concluded that vibration analysis is a precise method in predicting bone strength that depends highly on its size, shape and the distribution of its trabecular and cortical components.

Previous issue date: 2014 / Resumo: Os Hieroì Lógoi de Élio Aristides, compostos ca. 170 da Era Comum, constituem uma narrativa autobiográfica dedicada a Asclépio, cujo santuário, em Pérgamo, foi frequentado pelo autor ao longo de sua vida. Este, ao voltar-se em direção ao deus em busca de suas famosas curas praticadas por meio de sonhos, é transformado em meio a uma relação de favorecimento e intimidade com Asclépio que, em última instância, identifica-o a ele. Essa identificação, dada a ver no corpo de Aristides e por ele sentida é atravessada por valores paradoxais e inapreensíveis do ponto de vista de uma elaboração sistemática. Ela é entendida, assim, como uma iniciação mistérica, a qual dialoga com a cultura material de Asclepeia como os santuários de Pérgamo e o de Epidauro. Nesses espaços circulam sentidos e práticas cuja dinâmica resulta, não apenas, na produção da própria materialidade, como dos indivíduos que, no ocupar-se dela, são também constituídos. Esta relação circular com o mundo material ultrapassa o contexto dos santuários e deve ser também observada no próprio texto dos Hieroì Lógoi como produto humano e, ao mesmo tempo, produtor do humano. A escrita autobiográfica oferece-se, assim, como locus privilegiado para a reflexão sobre os modos de produção e existência do Eu enquanto ser no mundo. Ao mesmo tempo, na medida em que esta autobiografia é composta por meio de discursos nos quais se combinam elementos sobrenaturais e de transformação do si mesmo em algo para além do humano, ela deve ser pensada como parte de um antigo ocupar-se do Eu em ambiente greco-romano. Esta forma de tratar o Eu, tomá-lo e ocupar-se dele, prescinde da elaboração sistemática de um saber teórico e, simultaneamente, fundamenta toda reflexão desenvolvida em torno do problema do si mesmo a partir da perspectiva da primeira pessoa. A identificação de Aristides a Asclépio dialoga com temas caros a esses questionamentos: a unidade, a continuidade e a impermeabilidade do Eu, muitas vezes contestadas por ideias de multiplicidade, fragmentação e abertura. Essas reflexões frequentemente lançam hipóteses sobre a autonomia do indivíduo e sua vulnerabilidade perante os imortais. Na medida em que a identificação de Aristides a Asclépio se dá, em grande parte, por meio da visualidade e dos encontros face a face, sinaliza-se a necessidade de questionar a mortalidade e a imortalidade como pares antitéticos tributários de noções de alteridade próprias da dicotomia sujeito / objeto. Assim, a partir do discurso paradoxal de Aristides sobre suas experiências, o qual reatualiza antigas perspectivas sobre os limites entre deuses e homens como flexíveis, contestáveis e, até mesmo, apenas virtualmente existentes, defendemos uma abordagem da mortalidade e da imortalidade como pares incomensuráveis os quais, nos Hieroì Lógoi, constituem o Eu. Essa abordagem nos permite pensar mortalidade imortalidade como expressão particular de uma dimensão de trato, tomada e ocupação do Eu anterior, não-tributária e não-fundadora de um saber sistematizado das relações de alteridade. Os Hieroì Lógoi apresentam-se, portanto, como materialidade narrativa das possibilidades-Eu emergidas no sonho e na devoção de um homem do segundo século de nossa Era / Abstract: The Hieroì Lógoi of Aelius Aristides, composed ca. 170 C.E., constitute an autobiographical narrative dedicated to Asclepius, whose sanctuary, in Pergamon, the author visited many times throughout his life. As he turns to the god in search of his famous dream cures, Aristides is transformed through a favoritism and intimacy relationship with Asclepius which ultimately identifies them. This identification, bodily seen and felt by Aristides, is permeated by paradoxical and inapprehensible values from the perspective of systematic elaboration. Therefore, it is understood as an initiation into a mystery which is in close relation to the Asclepieia¿s material culture, as in Pergamon and Epidauros. In these spaces there are available meanings and practices in circulation whose dynamics result not only in the production of materiality but, also, in the fashioning of individuals who, as they deal with it, are constituted by it. This circular relation with the material world trespasses the sanctuaries¿ context and may be also observed in the Hieroì Lógoi text itself as a human product and, at the same time, it's producer. Autobiography is offered, therefore, as a privileged locus for the reflection on the modes of existence and fashioning of the Self as being in the world. At the same time, as this autobiography is composed by discourses which combine supernatural features and elements which transform the Self into something beyond human, it must be approached as part of the ancient self-occupation in the Greco-Roman world. This taking and occupation of the Self dispenses the systematic elaboration of a theoretical knowledge and simultaneously grounds all reflection on the problem of the Self from the first-person perspective. Aristides¿ identification with Asclepius engages in important themes to these inquiries: unity, continuity and the Self¿s impermeability, often contested by ideas of plurality, fragmentation and openness. These reflections frequently construct hypothesis regarding individual agency and autonomy, on the one hand, and vulnerability towards the gods, on the other. As Aristides¿ identification with Asclepius occurs, mostly, trough face-to-face visuality, comes to light the necessity to question mortality and immortality as antithetical pairs dependent on notions about otherness peculiar to the subject / object dichotomy. Therefore, from Aristides¿ paradoxical discourse on his experiences, which reactualizes ancient perspectives on the limits between gods and men as flexible, contested and even virtually absent, we assert an approach towards mortality and immortality as incommensurable pairs which constitute the Self in the Hieroì Lógoi. This approach allows us to consider mortality immortality as a particular expression of treatment, taking and occupancy of the Self which is prior, independent and non-constituent of systematized and discursively built alterity. novel ozone-assisted aerobic sludge digestion process to stabilize and decrease the amount of excess sludge produced during biological treatment is presented in this study.
Excess sludge production is a well known burden for the treatment plants both legally and financially. Moreover, with the arise in the knowledge in recalcitrant compounds it is understood that it can act as a significant secondary pollutant.
With the developed pulse ozonation method, waste activated sludge samples from Ankara Tatlar and other Wastewater Treatment Plants (WWTP) were ozonated for different periods in Erlenmeyer flasks once a day on each of four consecutive days. Flasks were continuously aerated between ozone applications on an orbital shaker. The MLVSS, MLSS, COD and OUR parameters were measured routinely during the course of four days of digestion in order to optimize the process. Also pH, CST(capillary suction time) and SVI (sludge volume index) were followed. As a result MLVSS reductions of up to 95% were achieved with an ozone dose of only 0.0056 kg O3/kg-initial MLSS, at the end of the fourth day.
In another experimental set, ozone dose was increased on the last day in order to destroy the selected endocrine disrupting compounds, namely diltiazem, carbamazepine, butyl benzyl phthalate and acetaminophen and two natural hormones estrone and progesterone, which accumulated onto the sludge. Over 99%
removal of these contaminants were achieved on the fourth day. The analyses were conducted by using LC(ESI) MS/MS after solid phase extraction (SPE).
By this process it became possible to save on contact time, as well as achieving a bio-solids digestion far exceeding the standard aerobic process at the expense of a minimum of ozone dose with the additional micropollutants removal. The developed process is deemed superior over side-stream ozonation of activated sludge in that it does not cause any reduction in active biomass amount that should be maintained in the aeration tank.

In order to elucidate the effects of NPY directly on bone tissue, two different doses of NPY (NPY dose 1= 1X10-5 M and NPY dose 2 = 1X 10& / #65533 / 6 M) and NPY dose 2 plus its inhibitor were applied together with hyaluronic acid (HA) into the intramedullary area of right tibia of Wistar rats. HA alone was administered as the control group. On three time points, day one, week one and week two after administration, the tibiae were collected and stored at & / #65533 / 20oC for analysis.
Evaluation was performed via conventional radiography, dual energy X-ray absorbtiometry (DEXA), quantitative computerized tomography (QCT), three point bending test (TPB) and histology techniques. QCT was used to assess both atomic content and density of both medulla and cortex of tibiae.
From DEXA results, it was observed that inhibition of NPY causes an increase in the bone mass from first day to second week. This phenomena was also observed in histology results so that new bone formation in the inhibitor administered bone was encountered at week two. In both medulla and cortex areas& / #65533 / atomic content, an increase in average effective atomic number was displayed after administration of NPY plus NPY inhibitor throughout two weeks. In addition, density of medulla of tibiae measured by QCT also revealed an increase in bone mass when inhibitor is applied throughout two weeks.
As a result, overall evaluation of data obtained from DEXA, QCT and histological analysis revealed that NPY inhibits bone formation or have a pro-osteoclastic effect / inversely HA displayed osteogenic effect.
