Dissertação (mestrado)—Universidade de Brasília, Faculdade de Arquitetura e Urbanismo, 2015. / Esta dissertação tem como objetivo estabelecer a discussão sobre o assunto: os edifícios de apartamentos projetados pelo arquiteto João Batista Vilanova Artigas (1915-1985). O trabalho se propõe a iniciar esta discussão através da análise crítica de seu projeto mais expressivo dentro do recorte sobre os edifícos de apartamento: o Edifício Louveira (1946-50). Assim esta pesquisa tem como objetivo específico ampliar as análises que hoje tratam deste edifício, apoiando-se no levantamento e sistematização da documentação encontrada sobre o objeto durante as etapas de pesquisa, buscando maior nível crítico e aprofundamento de tal documentação. A estruturação proposta para os capítulos deste trabalho surgem a partir da ordenação dos questionamentos levantados referentes ao objeto. O primeiro capítulo aborda questões referentes ao edifício em altura e ao processo de verticalização ocorrido na cidade de São Paulo na primeira metade do século XX, tendo como ênfase o entendimento das transformações ocorridas no bairro de Higienópolis onde se localiza o objeto deste trabalho. No segundo capítulo, são tratadas as questões relativas a atuação profissional de Artigas, em especial sobre a produção do arquiteto no período em que projeta o Edifício Louveira. Além disso, este capitulo tem como objetivo apresentar o conjunto de edifícios de apartamentos projetados por Artigas encontrados durante as etapas de pesquisa desta dissertação. Já o terceiro e último capítulo, trata diretamente das questões relativas ao Edifício Louveira, cabendo a este descrever e analisar a documentação encontrada durante a pesquisa. / This thesis aims at establishing the discussion on the following subject: the apartment buildings designed by architect João Batista Vilanova Artigas (1915-1985). This paper intends to initiate this discussion through critical analysis of his utmost project within the clipping about the apartment buildings: the building Louveira (1946-50). Therefore, this research has the prime objective of expanding the analyzes that today are given about this building, taking into account the collection and systematization of documents about the object during its research, in order to seek greater critical level and deepening of such documentation. The proposal for structuring the chapters of this work arises from the ordering of the questions related to the object as they were addressed. The first chapter addresses issues related to building height and to the verticalization process occurred in the city of São Paulo in the first half of the twentieth century, It emphasizes the changes occurred in the Higienópolis neighborhood where the object of this work is located. In the second chapter, matters concerning Artiga´s relating to professional performance were approached, especially during the period in which he design the Louveira building. Furthermore, this chapter aims at presenting the set of apartment buildings designed by Artigas that were found during the research stages of this work. The third and last chapter deals directly with the issues related to the building Louveira. It describes and analyzes the documentation found during the search.

Contudo, compreendê-lo como algo inquestionável apaga a natureza social da prática fotográfica e, ao fazê-lo, escamoteia uma das suas principais virtudes: o discurso fotográfico. Assim, esta pesquisa entende historicamente a atuação da fotografia na imprensa escrita brasileira entre 1966 e 1975, refletindo especialmente sobre o processo de produção de significados no fotojornalismo em relação ao poder. Para tanto, debruça-se sob as fotografias das autoridades e dos agentes da oposição da época publicadas nas seções de política dos jornais O Estado de S. Paulo, Jornal do Brasil, e das revistas Manchete e Veja, objetos-fontes desta pesquisa. Com este material e entendendo historicamente a dinâmica da atividade fotojornalística no período em questão, é possível afirmar que as construções discursivas do fotojornalismo sobre o contexto histórico vivido pelo país apresentam a materialização dos anseios, inquietações e posições políticas dos seus profissionais e veículos de imprensa, evidenciando a possibilidade de interpretações em torno da fotografia e do poder. Por fim, ao compreender como a ideia de documento na fotografia, ligado à captura e substituição do real, permanece atuante na prática da atividade, destaca-se também o deslocamento da fotografia de função exclusiva de testemunho para a de conhecimento, deslocando a ideia de fotografia-documento para de fotografia-expressão na prática jornalística / Abstract: The realist moorings permeate the photographic act. However, comprehend it as something unquestionable erases the social nature of photographic practice, and in so doing, it hides one of its principal virtues: the photographic discourse. Thus, this research understands historically the actuation of photography in the Brazilian written press between 1966 and 1975, reflecting especially on the process of production of meanings in the photojournalism in relation to the power. To do so, it analyzes at the photographs of the authorities and opposition agents of the epoch published in the politics sections of the newspapers O Estado de S. Paulo, Jornal do Brasil, and the Manchete and Veja magazines, objects-sources of this research. With this material and understanding historically the dynamics of the photojournalistic activity in the period in question, it is possible to affirm that the discursive constructions of the photojournalism on the historical context lived by the country present the materialization of the yearnings, concerns and political positions of its professionals and press vehicles, emphasizing the possibility of interpretations around photography and the power. Finally, in comprehending how the idea of document in photography, linked to the capture and replacement of the real, remains active in the practice of the activity, it stands out also the displacement of the photograph of exclusive function of witness to that of knowledge, shifting the idea of photography... This thesis examines the tensions that have continued to plague Southern Sudan since the 2005 Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA). It investigates factors that, if left unchecked, may lead to renewed conflict. Ethnic tensions have been exacerbated by two decades of war and divide-and-rule tactics, creating a fragile post-conflict environment in which ethnic-based militias continue to operate. Weakened by claims of ethnic discrimination, the Sudan People's Liberation Movement struggles to establish its legitimacy as the southern ruling party and demonstrate its ability to provide equitable power and wealth sharing. Vast oil resources have raised the stakes of conflict for all parties, including the northern ruling National Congress Party (NCP) which risks losing its share of oil revenues if the South secedes---a possible outcome of the CPA. This thesis argues that, to ensure its own survival, the NCP fuels southern divisions to undermine the implementation of the CPA.
