Slice-Aware Radio Resource Management for Future Mobile NetworksKhodapanah, Behnam 05 June 2023 (has links)
The concept of network slicing has been introduced in order to enable mobile networks to accommodate multiple heterogeneous use cases that are anticipated to be served within a single physical infrastructure. The slices are end-to-end virtual networks that share the resources of a physical network, spanning the core network (CN) and the radio access network (RAN). RAN slicing can be more challenging than CN slicing as the former deals with the distribution of radio resources, where the capacity is not constant over time and is hard to extend. The main challenge in RAN slicing is to simultaneously improve multiplexing gains while assuring enough isolation between slices, meaning one of the slices cannot negatively influence other slices. In this work, a flexible and configurable framework for RAN slicing is provided, where diverse requirements of slices are taken into account, and slice management algorithms adjust the control parameters of different radio resource management (RRM) mechanisms to satisfy the slices' service level agreements (SLAs). A new entity that translates the key performance indicator (KPI) targets of the SLAs to the control parameters is introduced and is called RAN slice orchestrator. Diverse algorithms governing this entity are introduced, which range from heuristics-based to model-free methods. Besides, a protection mechanism is constructed to prevent the negative influences of slices on each other's performances. The simulation-based analysis demonstrates the feasibility of slicing the RAN with multiplexing gains and slice isolation.

Digitalisering inom industriell produktion - Utmaningar och möjligheter med 5G i tillverkande industrier / Digitalization within industrial production - Challenges and opportunities with 5G in manufacturing industriesMenghes, Robel, Tokhmpash Norouzi, Dian January 2019 (has links)
Digitalization has gained increased attention in society as well as in various industries as a consequence of the development of new technology that drives growth ahead. Today’s technology has an impact in people’s everyday life and will also affect corporations that operate in all sorts of industries, but especially the manufacturing industry whose industry is undergoing a digital transformation called Industry 4.0. This paper investigates the challenges and opportunities that exist with the introduction and implementation of 5G technologies in manufacturing industries. The method in this study is a qualitative study where four interviews have been held with two companies form the user side, Scania and AstraZeneca, and two companies from the development side, Ericsson and H&D Wireless. In addition to this, a literature search was made to develop a theoretical foundation as well as an observation at Scania Smart Factory Lab to examine the development environment and to see the potential use of the technology. The results from the qualitative study and the literature search showed that there is an opportunity of a more stable availability with cellular technology. It is expected to deliver a high and even level, and is thus more reliable compared to Wi-Fi, which can have high peaks and low bottoms. Furthermore, there is the possibility of a better data flow in form of higher speed as well as a larger amount of data that can be handled. For the RTLS application that H&D Wireless has developed, there is a possibility of improved precision location with 5G. The interviewees see similar challenges when it comes to development and implementation, including the adaption of equipment and tools, a knowledge gap between developers and users, and the development of a 5G standard. The results show that companies that develop services and applications are far ahead in the value chain and are dependent on the users investments in the technology and infrastructure, while these are not involved in constructing the 5G standard. In addition, improved availability means that the technology has great use in monitoring equipment and critical processes, but may be competing with new versions of Wi-Fi if the technology acquires performance improvements.

Previous issue date: 2016-11-09 / For the future of cellular networks is estimated a significant increase in the number
of connected devices and the bulk data traffic, especially video content. That poses
as a challenge for the next generation network. With the rise of new communications
paradigm, D2D communication emerge as potential approach for cellular network data
offloading, especially when paired with caching solutions within the network. Also, the
impact of viral videos could be mitigated by proactively caching the contents being shared
on Online Social Networks (OSNs). This work presents a new approach to proactive
content cache for D2D-enabled networks, that is aware of users social interaction on
OSN’s. Our proposal consists in the combination of user mobile and social informations
to find the best located device to cache a content being shared online. Results obtained
through simulation show that the proposed approach can improve offload rate, reduce
energy consumption and provide a faster content access when compared with other work
in literature.

Fixed and mobile networks are currently experiencing a dramatic growth in terms of data traffic, mainly driven by video content distribution. Telecoms operators are thus considering de-centralizing content distribution architecture for future Fixed and Mobile Converged (FMC) network architectures. This decentralization, together with a distributed mobile EPC, would be used for future 5G networks. Mobile data offloading, in particular SIPTO approaches, already represent a good implementation model for 5G network as it allows the use of distributed IP edges to offload Selected IP traffic off the currently centralized mobile core network. However, in some cases, SIPTO does not support session continuity during users' mobility. This is due to the fact that user's mobility may imply packet gateway (PGW) relocation and thus a modification of the UE's IP address. This PhD thesis first quantifies the gain, in terms of bandwidth demands on various network portions, brought by the generalized use of mobile traffic offloading. A state of art of existing mobile data offloading solutions is presented, showing that none of the existing solutions solve the problem of session continuity for long-lived sessions. This is why, in the context of future FMC mobile network architectures, the PhD thesis proposes solutions to provide seamless mobility for users relying on SIPTO with the help of Multipath TCP (MPTCP). 3GPP standards are not modified, as session continuity is ensured by end-points. Lastly, the proposed solutions are mapped on different architecture options considered for future FMC networks.

Multiuser Multi Input Single Output (MU-MISO) Beamforming for 5G Wireless and Mobile Networks. A Road Map for Fast and Low Complexity User Selection, Beamforming Scheme Through a MU-MISO for 5G Wireless and Mobile NetworksHameed, Khalid W.H. January 2019 (has links)
Multi-User Multi-Input Multi-Output (MU-MIMO) systems are considered to be the sustainable technologies of the current and future of the upcoming wireless and mobile networks generations. The perspectives of these technologies under several scenarios is the focus of the present thesis.
The initial system model covers the MU-MIMO, especially in the massive form that is considered to be the promising ideas and pillars of the 5G network. It is observed that the optimal number of users should be served in the time-frequency resource even though the maximum limitation of the MU-MIMO is governed by the total receiving antennas (K) is less than or equal to the base station antennas (M). The system capacity of the massive MIMO (mMIMO) under perfect channel state information (CSI) of uncorrelated channel is investigated and studied. Two types of precoders were applied, one is directly based on channel inversion, and the other uses the Eigen decomposition that is derived subject to the signal to a leakage maximization problem. The two precoders show a degree of equivalency under certain assumptions for the number of antennas at the user end.
The convex optimization of multi-antenna networks to achieve the design model of optimum beamformer (BF) based on the uniform linear array (ULA) is studied. The ULA is selected for its simplicity to analyse many scenarios and its importance to match the future network applied millimetre wave (mmWave) spectrum. The maximum beams generated by the ULA are explored in terms of several physical system parameters. The duality between the MU-MIMO and ULA and how they are related based on beamformer operation are detailed and discussed.
Finally, two approaches for overloaded systems are presented when the availability of massive array that is not guaranteed due to physical restrictions since the existence of a large number of devices will result in breaking the dimension rule (i.e., K ≤ M). As a solution, a low complexity users selection algorithm is proposed. The channel considered is uncorrelated with full and perfect knowledge at the BS. In particular, these two channel conditions may not be available in all scenarios. The CSI may be imperfect, and even the instantaneous form does not exist. A hybrid precoder between the mixed CSI (includes imperfect and statistical) and rate splitting approach is proposed to deal with an overloaded system under a low number of BS antennas. / Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of Iraq

Kundkrav för service av mobilnät i stora industrier / Customer requirements for service of mobile networks within large industriesAlyas, Lailee January 2021 (has links)
The conducted project within the program of Industrial Technology and Production Maintenance concerns the industrial customer requirements for service of mobile networks within large industries. The large industrial customers, such as Scania and Boliden, have an immense focus on supporting the maintenance processes and managing production with the help of automation and digitalization within their companies. Today, the new mobile network of 5G, is a sought-after technology within large industries with large production facilities, that enables the opportunity to connect physical components and thereby increasing the efficiency within the operations. In this thesis work, interviews have been conducted with three Swedish companies, Ericsson, Scania, and Boliden. This is where the requirements of implementation and usage of 5G network have been determined. Moreover, a literature study has also been carried out with the requirement of selecting information that emphasizes on 5G and implementation within large production facilities. The objective of this thesis work is to identify the requirements of large industrial customers, such as their needs for self-maintenance, their requirements on the network operator during implementation and usage of 5G. Finally, the objective is to also present a Service Level Agreement or SLA. The result from the interview and the literature study shows that the customer requirements on the network operator are higher than the requirements the network operator has on thecustomers. During the implementation of 5G, industrial customers must adapt and change their production facilities, which requires new equipment, technology, and competent workers. These aspects should be considered by the and handled by the network operator. Industrial customers also have the condition of handling certain areas of the 5G network themselves, for example having technicians ready that can conduct simple maintenance. This in turn will enable more secure and efficient network and on the same time, at a lesser cost, due to the network operator no longer must conduct simple maintenance. Furthermore, a proposition for a Service Level Agreement have been composed, where the requirements from the industrial customers were documented.
