Shared mental models' impact on the onboarding process

Knight / The present study examined onboarding information acquisition and the mediated impact of shared mental model on newcomers' organizational commitment, job satisfaction, and intentions to quit. Onboarding is the initial stage of the socialization process that provides information pertinent to facilitating newcomers' transition into the organization. Previous research stated that a dearth in the socialization literature existed pertaining to intra-individual cognitive mediators. As a result, the present study identified and evaluated the variable, shared mental model, as an underlying mechanism through which information acquisition operated within the onboarding process. The study postulated that newcomers actively evaluated for perceived congruency their own mental models with those espoused by the organization with these perceptions influencing individual organizational commitment, job satisfaction, and intentions to quit. Data were collected via Qualtrics from 305 full-time employees who were experiencing onboarding at the time of study. Participants completed a series of scales relevant to newcomer information seeking behavior, clarity of job role and work processes, and specific organizational outcomes (e.g., organizational commitment, job satisfaction, and intentions to quit) through an online data collection hub. A confirmatory factor analysis supported the factor structures for each of the latent variables (the antecedent, mediator, three socialization outcomes) evaluated in the present study. The proposed mediated socialization process was then examined by way of structural equation modeling. Results showed that shared mental models did mediate the relationships between newcomer employee behaviors and specific socialization outcomes. Furthermore, relationships between the antecedent, newcomer employee behaviors, and two of the socialization consequences, organizational commitment and job satisfaction, appeared to be fully mediated by the presence of shared mental models in the analysis (the intentions to quit relationship was partially mediated). Practical and theoretical implications, in addition to limitations and recommendations of the research are discussed.

Chyba predikce pro smíšené modely / Prediction error for mixed models

A Linear mixed-effects model (LME) is one of the possible tools for longitudinal or group--dependent data. This thesis deals with evaluating of prediction error in LME. Firstly, it is derived the mean square error of prediction (MSEP) by direct calculation. Then the covariance penalty method and crossvalidation is presented for evaluation of MSEP in LME. Further, it is shown how Akaike information criterion (AIC) can be used in mixed-effects models. Because of the model's properties two types of AIC are distinguished - marginal and conditional one. Subsequently, the procedures of AIC's calculation and its basic asymptotic properties are described. Finally, the thesis contains simulation study of behaviour of marginal and conditional AIC with the goal to choose the right variance structure of random effects. It turns out that the marginal criterion tends to select models with smaller number of random effects than conditional criterion.

This diploma thesis focuses on industry clusters and their relation to industry 4.0. The aim is to propose improvements of a selected cluster with prerequisites for transition to industry 4.0. For this purpose, a cluster maturity model will be developed in order to determine the current level of cluster readiness for industry 4.0 in predefined dimensions. This model will be based on an analysis of current maturity models and specific features and clusters´s restrictions. An analysis of the OMNIPACK cluster and the subsequent application of the maturity model to this cluster will be also part of the work. The benefit of this diploma thesis will be wider application of the defined maturity model in Czech cluster organizations.

Ce travail de recherche vise à montrer l’intérêt de l’essaimage comme outil autour duquel peut s’articuler une panoplie de stratégies organisationnelles. Des coalitions stratégiques s’établissent et des liens de proximité se construisent entre les différentes entités constituant l’essaimage. La nature et l’intensité de ces liens dépendent de la nature de la stratégie d’essaimage adoptée ainsi que des logiques endogènes qui lui sont associées. Ainsi, en vue de contribuer à une meilleure compréhension de cette pratique, le présent travail de recherche propose, en s’appuyant sur un cadre théorique et typologique, une grille de lecture opérationnelle mettant en évidence les multiples dimensions de l’essaimage. Pour ce faire, une démarche abductive fondée sur l’étude de cas multiples a été mobilisée. La stratégie de recensement et d’analyse des cas a été effectuée en trois étapes. D’abord, il s’agit d’une exploration préliminaire qui a pour intérêt, de faire ressortir les cas d’analyse à partir d’entretiens réalisés avec 22 responsables, a priori concernés par la pratique d’essaimage en Tunisie. Pour approfondir notre compréhension de la pratique, des analyses thématiques des entrevues ont été menées en profondeur auprès des responsables de cellules d’essaimage. Enfin, en vu de repérer les articulations logiques entre ces dimensions de l’essaimage qui viennent d’être cernées, l’exploration qualitative s’est aussi consolidée par l’étude de 7 cartes cognitives de responsables ayant vécu des expériences variées d’essaimage. Les résultats empiriques obtenus ont permis de relever l’existence de diverses trajectoires de mise en œuvre de l’essaimage, dont le sens, la direction et la logique diffèrent d’une entreprise à une autre. En outre, la lecture des représentations mentales des dirigeants des cellules d’essaimage nous ont permis de confirmer l’importance des facteurs externes reliés à l’environnement et des facteurs internes reliés à l’optimisation des ressources dans la modélisation du processus. Cette analyse cognitive a laissé aussi apparaitre quelques pistes de réflexion relative à la prédominance des objectifs stratégiques de gestion de l’innovation et de valorisation des résultats de la recherche scientifique dans certaines entreprises essaimantes. / This research aims to show the importance of spin-off as a tool around which various organizational strategies can be articuled. In this respect, a number of strategic coalitions and close links are etablished among the different entities constituting spin-off. So, the nature and intensity of these relationships depend on the nature of the adopted spin-off strategy as well as the endogenous rationale associated with it. Thus, in order to shape a better understanding of the procedure, this research suggests, based on a theorical and typological framework, a practical outline which highlights the multiple dimensions of spin-off. Consequently, an abductive research strategy based on multiple case studies has been implemented.

Language models play an important role in many natural language processing tasks. In this thesis, we focus on language models built on artificial neural net- works. We examine the possibilities of using morphological annotations in these models. We propose a neural network architecture for a language model that explicitly makes use of morphological annotation of the input sentence: instead of word forms it processes lemmata and morphological tags. Both the baseline and the proposed method are evaluated on their own by perplexity, and also in the context of machine translation by the means of automatic translation quality evaluation. While in isolation the proposed model significantly outperforms the baseline, there is no apparent gain in machine translation. 1

The role of liquidity as an assumption in the Black and Scholes option pricing model

(Finance and Investment Management) / The latest financial crisis that began in 2007 in the USA and spread to Europe, Africa and other continents has highlighted the importance of liquidity and its role in financial markets. One of the most commonly accepted mathematical models used in financial markets is the Black and Scholes option pricing model (BSM model). The assumptions in the BSM model have again been questioned during the current crisis and, in particular, the assumption of an unending risk-free supply of liquidity. This report reviews this assumption in the South African financial markets with local market participants. These views are polled through the use of a questionnaire to gauge these participants' views on liquidity using proxies or factors that impact overall liquidity. The results showed significantly different perspectives depending on the role of the participant as either market maker or price taker. The overall liquidity proxies used showed that local market participants believe these proxies impact liquidity. The view that liquidity is an unending commodity and thus priced as riskless was disputed by local market participants. The practical significance of the research problem in the local context should provide local participants with some insight into local perceptions on liquidity that may provide some practical tools when pricing or trading instruments in the local market.

This work should serve as a source of information on the issue of production scheduling. The work is particularly focused on the relatively new terms in optimization of processing of production batches area, such as flowshop and its modifications in the form of so-called hybrid flowshop. The work is divided into five chapters. The first chapter consists of an introduction. In the second chapter I mention the theory of scheduling, the third part deals with the history of flowshop and in the fourth part I check the functionality of new models on real data. In conclusion I summarize the contents of work, comment resulting calculations and deliver the practical usage of flowshop.
