Verbal Memory Deficits and Possible Memory Recovery in Long-Term COVID Patients

Norrman, Emil January 2023 (has links)
Little is known about verbal memory performance in long-term COVID as well as the trajectory of recovery of verbal memory in long-term COVID. Here, I examine verbal memory performance differences in long-term COVID patients and control participants as well as how patients’ verbal memory performances changed over time. In the cross-sectional part of the thesis, 33 patients and 45 controls were assessed using a cognitive test battery. In the longitudinal part, 27 patients were tested at two points in time. Controls performed significantly better in the verbal memory task compared to patients. However, patients performed better at the second time point. In conclusion, long-term COVID patients did increase their verbal memory performance but did not reach the level of a group of healthy controls.

The effect of implementing an ethical way of working on an organization’s innovation : How does ethical culture affect the innovative capa-bility of a company?

Kjellin, Patrik, Skytt Petersen, Amalie January 2022 (has links)
Abstract  Background  All companies need innovation in some form and ethical rules on how the employees are ex-pected to behave. There are today too few studies on how the ethical culture in the companies affect the innovative abilities of the company. Some aspects of this link have not previously been covered. For example, will the innovative work be hindered by to extensive ethical rules? Or perhaps the innovative abilities can be improved if the ethical culture in the company shows a clear road map how act and leaves no room for personal interpretation? Furthermore, as the previous research has been quantitative studies, this qualitative study will add new in-depth insights into the employees’ perception of the mechanisms related to ethical culture and inno-vation.  Objectives  In this thesis the link between the ethical culture in the company and the company’s innovative abilities is studied. The study investigates the mechanisms behind idea generation and innova-tive behaviour at employee levels. Furthermore, the study includes the connection between eth-ical culture and the speed of innovation and whether the post-pandemic changes in work con-ditions have impacted the speed of innovation.  Methodology  The study is a qualitative, exploratory study with in-depth interviews with ten interviewees. These will be selected among the MBA students and people with similar engineering back-ground that makes different kind of innovative work in different industries.  Results  The study shows a clear connection between the individual’s personal interpretation of the com-pany’s ethical culture and how the innovative ideas are received by the company. Different companies have different methods of showing appreciation for successful innovation. An eco-nomic incentive for successful innovation seems to be the most successful method. It also shows that employees do not feel hindered in their work as a result of the company having an ethical culture. Larger companies have well implemented methods for keeping an ethical culture in the company and still be innovative.  Recommendations for future research  The study covers only ten interviewees – however, to make the group of interviewees as repre-sentative as possible, the group consisted of engineers working in different areas and in differ-ent countries. For future studies, the interview could be repeated with several people in similar role in the same companies to see the differences in the personal interpretation of ethical culture and its effect on innovative abilities.

Procedurellt genererade eldbollar är framtiden av magi : Utveckling av metoder för procedurell generering av förmågor till MOBA-spel

Johansson, Martin January 2023 (has links)
Procedural generation is commonly used by game developers in today's modern world. Generally procedural generation gets mostly used for generating terrain and textures, which is a well explored area, but that is merely scratching the surface of possible use cases. This article therefore instead focuses on the usage of procedural generation to generate abilities to be used in a MOBA game, in an attempt to spread knowledge and develop other use cases for procedural generation. To explore possible methodologies of using procedural generation to generate abilities this article first documents already existing methods, then proposes a new method to make up for the shortcomings in the already existing methods and finally implements the new method in a game prototype to test its viability. To validate the results of the new method for procedural generation of abilities implemented in the game prototype it is directly compared to the already existing methods to ascertain what the pros and cons are of using the new method. The results of the research show that the new method for procedural generation of abilities is not the end all solution, but it is a viable alternative to the already existing methods. To tie things up this article brings up the possibility of combining both the existing methods for procedural generation of abilities and the newly designed one in the future in an attempt to mitigate the methods shortcomings.

The Impact of the Empowerment of Women Police and Enhancing Their Role in Leadership. A Case Study of the Abu Dhabi Police General Head Quarter

Al Belooshi, Aamna M. January 2021 (has links)
Women's empowerment in the police sector as leaders is an important study that has received little attention in the literature. Understanding the problems and hurdles, as well as solutions to empower women police today as leaders in the police force, was the emphasis of the study. The goal of this research was to investigate the concept of female police empowerment in the Abu Dhabi Police. This study looks at the important elements of empowerment for ADHGHQ women police, as well as the problems they encounter because of their gender in a historically male-dominated industry. The following four research questions served as a guide: 1) To what extent the principles of empowerment are implemented of women police in the ADPGHQ? 2) What is the impact of empowerment implementation on leadership of women police in the ADPGHQ? 3) What is the impact of empowerment implementation on skills of women police in the ADPGHQ? 4) What is the impact of empowerment implementation on the abilities of women police in the ADPGHQ? An in-depth survey and personnel meeting were conducted with women police operating in all ADPGHQ sectors to have a better grasp the issue. The data collection and analysis paradigms used in the research investigation were quantitative. The core data is gathered through questionnaires and personal meetings with a group of 650 female police officers from various sectors who work at the Abu Dhabi Police (ADHGHQ). Data was gathered via e-mail, and personnel were present. This research finishes with practice recommendations for strengthening police leadership in the ADPGHQ and removing real and perceived barriers to women's full involvement in the workforce and leadership. A proposal method was established to improve the position of women's police empowerment in leadership, according to the study. This approach is intended to empower female police officers in positions of leadership at ADPGHQ, but it can also be used as a general conceptual framework to empower women in other police sectors. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that women police require empowerment to achieve the desired leadership position.

Secondary English Teachers' Perceptions and Expectations of High School Athletes

Jarem, Sarah 01 December 2014 (has links)
In the United States, there are currently over seven million high school athletes, all of whom are required to take four years of core classes as well as elective classes. Core subject areas consist of math, science, social sciences, and English language arts. Of the four core subject areas, both national and state education committees place emphasis and scrutiny on English language arts. The research within this thesis, conducted in the form of an interview, is meant to explore English language arts teachers' possible attitudes and expectations of their student athletes in concern to their writing abilities. Special emphasis will be placed on secondary English language arts teachers' perceptions of student-athletes' use of the standard conventions of English, such as spelling, punctuation, syntax, and grammar, within their writing. The results of four interviews with secondary English language arts teachers revealed that these secondary English language arts teachers did not hold different perceptions of their student-athletes writing abilities as compared to their non-athlete peers. All four participants revealed that they believe that the student-athletes in their classroom have the same writing abilities as non-athletes, and that being labeled as a student-athlete does not give way to either positive or negative perception of their writing. This exploratory study is beneficial to both student-athletes and English language arts teachers, as it may have the ability to affect change in the way that teachers approach and teach their student-athletes.

Functioning and Neurodevelopmental Disorders / Examining everyday functioning in family-centred services for children with neurodevelopmental disorders

Shanmugarajah, Kajaani 11 1900 (has links)
Neurodevelopmental disorders (NDD) refer to conditions that can be present during a child’s early developmental period, and are typically characterized by challenges in a child’s personal, social, academic, or occupational functioning. Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is an example of NDD, impacting 1 in 66 children in Canada. While interventions vary across this heterogeneous group of impairments, everyday functioning is an important outcome to families. However, this concept of functioning needs further examination with respect to whether and how it is incorporated within the instruments and concepts used in family-centred services (FCS), and how this is understood by parents. This thesis is composed of two studies: a narrative review identifying function-focused measures published in the literature for children with NDD; and a qualitative study examining how parents of children with ASD perceive their child’s abilities in relation to family-centred services. Fourteen clinical measures were described in the review based on how they utilized the International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health (ICF) to describe child functioning. In the qualitative study, five themes (Parenting Approaches, Accepting My Child, Managing Child’s Challenges, Doing the Right Thing for My Child, and “The Disability Tag”) were identified as influential factors that can affect how parents perceive their child’s abilities and functioning. As the cultural shift within interventions for children with NDD continue to move beyond the historically prominent deficit-focused lens, and towards the integration of neurodiverse abilities, this study enables us to understand better how concepts of function-focused care are operationalized in family-centred services and intervention systems. / Thesis / Master of Science Rehabilitation Science (MSc) / To support the shift in health care that focuses on the abilities of children with neurodevelopmental disorders (NDD) rather than their ‘problems’ or ‘deficits,’ we need to further understand how family-centred services (FCS) can better fit this change in thinking. This thesis explores paediatric health care focused on addressing ‘everyday abilities’ for children with NDD in research and clinical practice over two studies. Study #1 reviews some of the current ways that everyday functioning is measured in paediatric health care, examining 14 clinical tools developed for children with NDD. Study #2 reports key patterns that describe the experiences of parents of children with autism, in regards to how they think about their child’s abilities, and the care their child receives. Overall, this thesis studied new ways that we can explore the abilities of children with NDD in FCS, specifically concerning how parents and clinicians describe and measure functioning.
