The psychometric properties of the measurement of culture change in Mexican-American children and its contributions to the theory of acculturation.Luna Solorzano, Maria Isela. January 1992 (has links)
Several dimensions of acculturation as well as three cultural orientations were incorporated in the development of the measurement of Culture Change in Mexican American Children (CCMAC). The sample included 116 Mexican American children age 7 to 11 years. The research was designed to assess the psychometric properties of the CCMAC, and evaluate the developmental features of the data. The multidimensional concepts as well as the multicultural aspects of acculturation were assessed. In addition, selected health outcomes were examined and their association to cultural orientation was determined. The findings demonstrated that the CCMAC was deemed valid and reliable with an alpha coefficient of.85 for the cultural assimilation scoring,.83 for the cultural resistance scoring, and.67 for the cultural integration scoring system. The confirmatory and exploratory factor analysis did not support the predicted factor structure. Children who were culturally resistant reported the highest income, less school problems, less home problems and a high GPA. Children who were culturally assimilated were the youngest children, had less homework problems, and were of later generation. The theory that culturally integrated children would report the least number of problems was not supported. It was recommended that the CCMAC be scored in three different ways when estimating individual acculturation trends. When estimating group trends, the CCMAC should be scored in the cultural assimilation orientation. Earlier literature was re-examined and discussed in light of the lack of the identification of the predicted factor structure. Recommendations were based on the CCMAC's contributions to the theory of acculturation in school age Mexican American children.

Adult attachment, acculturation, and psychological well-being in Chinese/Taiwanese immigrantsWeng, Wan-Chen January 2016 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to explore the relationships among adult attachment, acculturation, and psychological well-being in Chinese/ Taiwanese immigrants. Specifically, the present study examined how adult attachment predicted psychological well-being and how acculturation moderated the relationship between adult attachment and psychological well-being. Adult attachment was measured by two dimensions, attachment anxiety and attachment avoidance. Acculturation was measured by two domains, behavioral aspect and psychological aspect of acculturation. Bivariate correlation analyses on attachment anxiety, attachment avoidance and psychological well-being were conducted. The results suggested that both attachment anxiety and attachment avoidance were significantly negatively associated with psychological well-being. In addition, hierarchical multiple regression analyses were performed where attachment anxiety and attachment avoidance were entered as predictor variables; acculturation towards Chinese orientation, acculturation towards American orientation and Asian cultural values as moderating variables; psychological well-being as the outcome variable. The results indicated that acculturation towards American orientation moderated the relationship between attachment anxiety and psychological well-being and the relationship between attachment avoidance and psychological well-being. The findings and discussions, limitations, implications for future research, clinical practice and training were addressed.

Acculturation, Family Influence, and Work Volition in Latinx College Student Academic SatisfactionPostolache, Nadine January 2022 (has links)
The present study integrates Social Cognitive Career Theory and Psychology of Working Theory by considering the role of work volition within a social cognitive model of academic satisfaction. Vocational psychology research has highlighted the significance of sociocultural variables on career outcomes for Latinx young adults.
This study explored a collectivistic familial perspective on career development for a sample of 224 Latinx college students. Ethnic identity, acculturation, enculturation and four family influence variables were exogenous variables while career decision self-efficacy, work volition, and academic satisfaction were endogenous variables. Results from a path analysis indicated that both acculturation and enculturation were associated with academic satisfaction.
Higher endorsement of informational support was positively related to career decision self-efficacy and work volition while greater endorsement of family expectations was negatively related to career decision self-efficacy and work volition. Acculturation was positively related to career decision self-efficacy while financial support was positively related to work volition. Both career decision self-efficacy and work volition were positively associated with academic satisfaction, and career decision self-efficacy was positively related to work volition. Indirect relationships and an alternative model were examined. Implications for future research and clinical practice with Latinx college populations are discussed.
