Organizational Search in Email Systems

Pitla, Sruthi Bhushan 01 May 2012 (has links)
The storage space for emails has been increasing at a rapid pace day by day. Email systems still serve as very important data repositories for many users to store different kinds of information which they use in their daily activities. Due to the rapidly increasing volume of email data, there is a need to maintain the data in a most efficient way. It is also very important to provide intuitive and flexible search utilities to provide better access to the information in the email repositories, especially in an enterprise or organizational setting. In order to implement the functionality, we are presenting a tool name TESO. TESO is a tool for email searching using organizational information. This tool is designed to improve the relevancy of the email search by integrating the data from email servers and organizational information from directory services and other resources. We implement this functionality as an add-on for the Mozilla Thunderbird framework, which is an open source email client system developed by the Mozilla Foundation. The results are evaluated using the SQLite and the XML data. This work will serve as a handy tool in the area of existing information integration and keyword search on relational databases techniques and also helps in efficient access of XML information.

The effect of rhetoric in personal selling : An observational study of how IKEA uses rhetoric in their sales interactions

Hellsten, Sara, Lidgren, Maria January 2011 (has links)
Background: Rhetoric can be traced back to antiquity and is today a well used tool within marketing and persuasion. Although rhetoric is said to be the art of persuasion there is a lack of research concerning rhetoric used in personal selling, even though persuasion is one of the most important aspects of personal selling. Personal selling is said to be an underlying factor for companies marketing success, therefore the authors see the importance of researching the relationship between rhetoric and personal selling. To be able to investigate how rhetoric effects personal selling, this thesis was conducted in cooperation with IKEA Jönköping. Through the cooperation with IKEA Jönköping, the authors will gain a unique real-life insight into the phenomenon. Purpose: This thesis aims to understand how rhetoric is used, and what effects the phenomenon has on the interaction between a customer and a sales person. Method: Since very little was previously researched within the use of rhetoric in personal selling, the foundation for the primary data collection was based on the theoretical framework that was developed. 112 observations and 30 semi-structured interviews were conducted during 9 days, in order to observe the phenomenon in its natural environment. Conclusion: When used correctly, arguments (Logos) were used in order to persuade the customer, character (Ethos) created a higher credibility of the sales person and emotional and personal associations (Pathos) lead customers being more trusting towards the sellers. If expertise and a strong character were absent in the interactions the sales persons were generally not successful in increasing customer’s attitudes and purchase intentions. When using the rhetorical methods correctly trust, credibility, loyalty and a positive customer attitude could be achieved by the sales person.

Hur uppmärksammar några förskollärare neuropsykiatriska funktionsnedsättningar i förskolan?

Hakala, Maria January 2011 (has links)

Multi-Mode Floating-Point Multiply-Add Fused Unit for Low-Power Applications

Yu, Kee-khuan 01 August 2011 (has links)
In digital signal processing and multimedia applications, floating-point(FP) multiplication and addition are the most commonly used operations. In addition, FP multiplication operations are frequently followed by the FP addition operations. Therefore, in order to achieve high performance and low cost, multiplication and addition are usually combined into a single unit, known as the FP Multiply-Add Fused (MAF). On the other hand, the mobile devices nowadays are rapidly developing. For this kind of devices, performance and power sustainability have to become the major trend in the research area. As a result, the mechanisms to reduce energy consumption become more important. Therefore, we propose a multi-mode FP MAF based on the concept of iterative multiplication and truncated addition, to achieve different operating modes with different errors. This MAF, with a total of seven modes, includes three modes for the FP multiply-accumulate operations, two modes for single FP multiplication operation and single FP addition operation, respectively. FP multiply-accumulate operations provide three modes to user, and this three modes have 0%, 0.328% and 1.107% of error. The 0% error is the same with the standard IEEE754 single-precision FP Multiply-Add Fused operations. For FP multiplication and FP addition operations, the proposed MAF allows users to choose two kinds of error modes, which are 0%, 0.328% error for FP multiplication and 0%, 0.781% error for FP addition. The 0% error is the same with the standard IEEE754 single-precision floating-point operations. When compared with the standard IEEE754 single-precision FP MAF, the proposed multi-mode FP MAF architecture has 4.5% less area and increase about 22% delay to achieve the effect of multi-mode. To demonstrate the power efficiency of proposed FP MAF, it is used to perform the operations of FP MAF, FP multiplication, and FP addition in the application of RGB to YUV format conversion. Experimental results show that, the proposed multi-mode FP MAF can significantly reduce power consumption when the modes with error are adopted.

Effects of Harsh and Unpredictable Environments in Adolescence on Development of Life History Strategies: A Longitudinal Test of an Evolutionary Model

Brumbach, Barbara Hagenah January 2006 (has links)
The National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health was used to test predictions from life history theory. It was hypothesized that (1) in young adulthood an emerging life history strategy would exist as a common factor underlying many life history traits (e.g., health, relationship stability, and economic success), (2) both environmental harshness and unpredictability would account for unique variance in expression of adolescent and young adult life history strategies, and (3) adolescent life history traits would predict young adult life history strategy. These predictions were supported. The current findings suggest that the environmental parameters of harshness and unpredictability have concurrent effects on life history development in adolescence, as well as longitudinal effects into young adulthood. In addition, life history traits appear to be stable across developmental time from adolescence into young adulthood.

Visual Studio Add-in for Proxy Object Code Generation

Thangavel, Gopalakrishnan January 2013 (has links)
In recent years, Component models have become common for desktop and server-side applications. But it has not obtained such importance in case of embedded real-time systems.  Therefore, there has been a lot of research undergoing for introducing such component models for embedded real-time systems.  This thesis work proposes an alternative approach for doing this, by the generation of proxies.   The idea is to provide an extension to an existing binary component and modify it to adapt to the targeted real-time operating system. Rather than modifying the existing component, a new component is generated, which is called as the proxy component.  This newly generated proxy component provides the same method implementation as the original component and also provides some additional services.  These services enable these components to meet the needs of targeted embedded real-time systems.  In order to achieve this, a Visual Studio 2008 add-in has been created. This add-in is capable of inspecting an existing Smart Device Component and visualizes the Classes, Interfaces and Methods in the original component in its UI.  In addition to this, the add-in also shows the available services to be included in the proxy component.  The UI of the add-in is designed in such a way that, the user is able to select the services, which should be included in the proxy component.  Based on the user’s selection, the add-in generates the proxy component with the additional services.

A PERFORMANCE COMPARISON OF FRAME STRUCTURES IN WIMAX MULTI-HOP RELAY NETWORKS

Kolomitro, Pandeli 10 September 2010 (has links)
Wireless multi-hop relay systems are the newest amendment to the IEEE 802.16 standard for local and metropolitan area networks, else known as WiMAX. Relay systems come in different flavours, based on their capabilities and have the potential to offer many advantages over the single-hop technology. Upcoming broadband wireless technologies, that utilize multi-hop relays, need good network planning and design in order to achieve their full potential. There are two main types of multi-hop relay stations: transparent, which are not able to transmit control information and non-transparent, which have the capability to transmit such information. This study focuses mainly on non-transparent relay stations due to their complexity and ability to operate in a more than two hop environment. Currently, the latest IEEE amendment provides two different frame structures − single and multi-frame − for utilization in multi-hop relay networks, to allocate bandwidth. The purpose of this thesis is to evaluate the two proposed frame structures, in various network scenarios in terms of delay, throughput, rate, and user capacity. In addition, we will discuss some of the issues that need to be considered to cost effectively plan and design a multi-hop relay network. The evaluation methodology that we utilize is in accordance with the Multi-hop Relay System Evaluation Methodology developed by the IEEE 802.16 Broadband Wireless Access Working Group. To evaluate the above frame structures we developed an evaluation model for use in the network simulator 2 (ns2) from University of California Berkeley, by modifying the light WiMAX (LWX) add-on from Taiwan University. Unlike the original LWX module, which supports only transparent relay configurations, our module supports both multi-frame and single frame structures, as well as non-transparent multi-hop relay environments. To our knowledge there is no previous work, which analyzes the performance of the single frame and multi-frame system in multi-hope relay environments using the guidelines from the latest amendment to the standard (IEEE 802.16j-2009). Moreover, there is no publicly available software that will enable the study of such performance. The resulting source code of our work has been made publicly available and can be obtained from our website. / Thesis (Master, Electrical & Computer Engineering) -- Queen's University, 2010-09-09 23:55:00.995
