Factors Affecting Individuals' Adoption Intention of Cryptocurrency in the Hospitality and Tourism Industry

Le, Linh 15 August 2023 (has links) (PDF)
Cryptocurrency is virtual money that is secured by digital information and cryptographic techniques, enabling fast and secure hospitality and travel transactions without risks of fraud, conversion costs, or certain transaction fees. Despite its potential benefits, customers are hesitant to adopt cryptocurrency for purchases. Prior literature mostly utilized technology acceptance models to conceptualize individual cryptocurrency adoption in hospitality and tourism, preventing an interdisciplinary comprehension of this phenomenon that integrates technology, finance, and e-commerce aspects. This dissertation aims to explore factors explaining individuals' intentions to use cryptocurrency for hospitality and tourism purchases and to develop a conceptual framework that generalizes adoption intention towards cryptocurrency. To achieve these objectives, a mixed-method approach was employed, involving 29 semi-structured interviews and 401 online surveys with cryptocurrency holders. The interviews were analyzed using thematic analysis to validate the proposed model's constructs and scales, while the online surveys were analyzed using structural equation modeling to test inter-construct relationships. Multigroup structural equation modeling estimations were also conducted to examine the moderation of personal innovativeness, risk propensity, and familiarity with cryptocurrency. The study revealed that performance expectancy, social influence, facilitating condition, price value, and perceived trust had positive impacts on usage intention while effort expectancy and stickiness to traditional payment were identified as barriers to customers' willingness to use cryptocurrency. The findings also showed that perceived ubiquity was determinant of perceived trust and performance expectancy, while perceived structural assurance predicted perceived trust and perceived risk. The study also confirmed the invariance in the relationships between adoption intention and its antecedents regardless of individuals' personal innovativeness, risk propensity, and familiarity with cryptocurrency. This dissertation provided valuable theoretical contributions to individuals' cryptocurrency adoption in hospitality and tourism from an interdisciplinary perspective, and practical implications for practitioners in these sectors and payment service providers to optimize their implementation of digital currency.

An Examination of Frontline Service Workers' Empathy in a Cobot Team

Broker, Emily Anne 01 January 2024 (has links) (PDF)
Service robots are an emerging technological advancement increasingly utilized in the hospitality industry. In return, service workers are required to use them during their interactions with customers. This study sought to examine how the service robot-worker team affects cognitive and affective empathy present in a service encounter. Using the empathy attribute part of the SERVQUAL model, this study aimed to examine and differentiate the server's empathy impact in the presence of a service robot. This study utilized semi-structured qualitative interviews to collect data from service workers employed in two restaurants characterized by distinct service environments. The interviews were qualitatively analyzed through identifying common patterns and emergent themes. The findings exhibit how cognitive and affective empathy was perceived differently amongst service robot-worker teams and provides implications on the implementation of well-being practices for workers and further service robot collaboration.

Hispanic consumers' perspectives of green hotels

Alvarez, Luisa F. 01 January 2009 (has links)
This research study aims to investigate consumers' perception ( attitudes and their intention to chose) of green hotels. Due to significant increases in the Hispanic population and consequently their purchasing power, the study will focus on Hispanics' attitudes. Additionally, this study seeks to enlighten and identify attitudes that could possibly attract a different kind of consumer to green hotels. ' The use of eco-friendly products has risen as more people become aware of the consequences human behavior has on the environment. Likewise, the amount of hotels that employ strong efforts on environmental activities has increased. However, the concept of green hotels seems to be stronger in the supply-side rather than the consumer demand-side. This could be attributed to misperceptions of consumers' environmental behaviors and ineffective marketing campaigns. Additionally, a market that has not been thoroughly considered is the rapidly growing market of Hispanic consumers. A theoretical and practical approach is used throughout the study. The empirical part of the study was conducted at the 2009 Hispanic Business and Consumer Expo in Central Florida. The findings suggest that the Hispanic consumer has a highly positive attitude toward eco-friendly measures practiced in hotels. Additionally, the findings show significant differences within Hispanic subgroups when classified by various demographic factors. In consideration of the findings, practical implications are contended and future research is suggested in view of the limitations faced.

Dramaturgy in the service encounter

Frazier, Samantha 01 January 2010 (has links)
Hospitality management and service positions have been moving from a purely vocational field of work to a scientific and inter-disciplinary supported area of professional development. This exploratory study aims to contribute to this quest by introducing the sociological concept of Dramaturgy to the service encounter as a way of understanding and improving upon present employee behaviors. A review of existing literature illustrates that Dramaturgy has only been used to develop an analogy of service, but has not yet been applied as a tool for further understanding behaviors and interactions during service encounters. The present study identified common concepts between Service Interactions and Dramaturgical Interactions, and used them to create a survey to measure Dramaturgical Awareness. It was proposed that four factors are used to create the structure of Dramaturgy in service encounters. A likert-type survey was distributed to 464 students studying at the Rosen College of Hospitality Management. The responses were subjected to a Principal Component Analysis, and the results introduced two unexpected factors. The original structure of four underlying factors emerged as a five-factor structure, including the two new factors and one factor that combined two former concepts. In response to the given survey, the surviving structure of dramaturgical awareness in service encounters (as measured by hospitality students) includes the following concepts: Interpersonal Communication; Improvisation Techniques; and Acting and Stage Behaviors. Further research can use these findings to understand service encounter behaviors from practitioners from specific areas of work in service, and to also develop a better understanding of the two unexpected factors, dramaturgical behaviors and role theory.

BOARD GOVERNANCE OF WORLD-CLASS ANNUAL SPORT CHAMPIONSHIPS: LEARNING FROM KENTUCKY TO CREATE TOURISM OPPORTUNITIES IN THE BAHAMAS

Burrows, Elvis V 01 January 2014 (has links)
The economy of The Bahamas relies heavily on leisure visitor tourism (cruise ships, resorts, holiday trips) which leaves the country vulnerable to changes in visitor travel habits. Because the country is so reliant on investments in resorts, casinos and cruise ships, it leaves a wide capacity of other touristic opportunities. One opportunity is sports tourism. The purpose of this study is to analyze the strategic board capability of the Rolex Kentucky Three Day Event’s (RK3DE) board governance using the Ferkins and Shilbury (2012) model as the theoretical construct and make recommendations regarding the application of these successful aspects to the governance of world-class annual sport championships in The Bahamas. Members of the RK3DE board were interviewed using specific questions developed from the Ferkins and Shilbury (2012) model. Findings showed the Ferkins and Shilbury (2012) model concepts hold true however remained very broad in its prescriptions. On the other hand, a revised model provides a more specific guide to the necessary attributes and capabilities that need to be in place to run an effective and strategically capable board for world-class annual sport championships.

Extreme Production - Administration Makeover : ur ett informationslogistiskt perspektiv

Granlund, Mirva, Hjerling, Sandra January 2007 (has links)
Adding Up the Arts: The Great Recession and the Public-Private Debate in the Funding of America's Art and Art Museums

Kusumowidagdo, Jasmine 01 January 2016 (has links)
The Great Recession dramatically reframed the debate on funding for the arts from a social one to a fiscal one. Instead of social ideology, economics came to the forefront; and fiscal conservatives replaced social conservatives as the loudest voice criticizing government funding for the arts. Under the shadow of an expanding government and staggering national debt, both supporters and critics argue in terms of the economic costs and benefits that the arts impose. These arguments against public funding for the arts are multi-tiered. Critics contend that the government arts agencies are ineffective, that federal arts funding is inefficient, and that government funding as a whole is an unjustified overreach of government. Fiscal conservatives also argue that private philanthropy is sufficient to sustain the arts independently without government involvement. But because public and private funding for the arts respond to recessionary impacts so differently and decreases in private philanthropy impact the arts disproportionately, public arts funding is absolutely justified on an economic basis. With the inclusion of social and political considerations, however, the final conclusion is that neither private nor public funding can or should independently provide a complete solution to the issue.
