Enacting medication administration as nursing practice in a neonatal intensive care unit: a praxiographic study

The purpose of this research was to offer a description of the complexity of nurses’ medication administration practices in relationships with technology. The clinical situations and circumstances in which nurses administer medications today are comprised of rapidly changing technological initiatives that are intended to support safe, efficient care. Nurses’ medication administration practices are not immune to a rapidly changing technological health care environment. Research and literature has documented medication administration occurs in complex situations and nurses apply particular knowledge that supports decision-making and clinical practices for patient safety. Praxiographic methodology was used to describe deeply embedded knowledge and values that shape and guide contemporary nursing practice. Lack of attention to knowledge and values that shape and guide nursing practice and care, may contribute to the risk that those practices may be lost as nurses retire amongst a rapidly changing healthcare environment. A highly technical Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) was the location for the study. Participants included twelve NICU nurses and a pharmacist. The research findings included the significance of understanding NICU nurses’ use of local and universal maps to navigate the complexity of medication administration. Furthermore, the research documented NICU nurses’ medication administration practices as inseparable from technology. Further practice-based research is recommended to support the development of technologies that incorporate nurses’ medication administration practices. / Graduate

Por entre as memórias de uma instituição : o arquivo e as práticas administrativas do Atheneu Sergipense (1870-1926)

Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / This research has been proposed to analyze the changes and continuity in the organization and conservation of school archive from Atheneu Sergipense and their relationship to the administration practices from 1870 to 1926. Therefore, we use the theoretical assumptions of Antonio Viñao Frago (1995; 2002; 2008), as regards about the concept of school culture, with emphasis on culture, school supplies, and Roger Chartier (1990), particularly the concept of representations. We have searched also some assumptions and concepts of archival theory, mainly Heloisa L. Bellotto (2004), Ana Maria de Camargo and Heloisa L. Bellotto (1996) and Theodore R. Schellemberg (2006). And about of that concerning, we have analyzed the minutes of the Congregation, the mails which were dispatched and reports from Atheneu Sergipense, as well as the legislation educational in this period. Finally, we noted that the history of archive from Atheneu Sergipense has a is conected with the spaces that sheltered the institution over the years, as well as administrative practices, developed by your employees. / A presente pesquisa propôs-se a analisar as mudanças e permanências na organização e conservação do arquivo escolar do Atheneu Sergipense e sua relação com as práticas administrativas no período de 1870 a 1926. Para tanto, utilizamos os pressupostos teóricos de Antonio Viñao Frago (1995; 2002; 2008), no que se refere ao conceito de cultura escolar, com ênfase na cultura material escolar, e em Roger Chartier (1990), particularmente o conceito de representações. Buscamos também alguns pressupostos e concepções da teoria arquivística, principalmente Heloisa L. Bellotto (2004), Ana Maria de Camargo e Heloisa L. Bellotto (1996) e Theodore R. Schellemberg (2006). À luz desse referencial, analisamos as Atas da Congregação, as Correspondências Expedidas e os Relatórios do Atheneu Sergipense, bem como a legislação educacional do período. À guisa de conclusão, verificamos que a história do arquivo do Atheneu Sergipense tem uma forte ligação com os espaços que abrigaram a instituição ao longo dos anos, bem como com as práticas administrativas, desenvolvidas por seus funcionários.
