Therefore, it was important to outline the genesis of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in its relationship with the Millerite Movement indicating the relevance of the work of Ellen G. White church in the development and institutionalization. Compounding the specter of Adventist denomination, we stopped in the origin and development of the Adventist educational system, showing that even when transplanted to Brazil maintained relations intertwined with education Protestant installed here, as well as the socio-historical invigorating season. As sketched in outline pedagogy Adventist provide the foundations on which rest the educational concepts of this confession, as well as guidelines that regulate and normalize relations pedagogical undertaken within the Adventist educational institutions. Only after we walk this path elements needed to safely approach the object of our study, the subjects offered in Higher Education confessional this confessional education system. Our theoretical framework has contributed to the sedimentary multidisciplinary perspective that shapes our research. The results show that education in this school system is mapped out for evangelistic purposes, so the ER as is taught at the university level is effective as an instrument of catechesis / doctrination, which in turn shows a markedly denominational previous guidance in curriculum construction. So, the pedagogical relations undertaken in the ER teaching this grade level are asymmetric and earn more defined contours in the homogenization of differences and developments in the hierarchy of knowledge / Esta dissertação é balizada por uma pesquisa bibliográfico-documental acerca da presença do Ensino Religioso no Ensino Superior da educação adventista.

No. of bitstreams: 1 Patrick Vieira Ferreira.pdf: 867143 bytes, checksum: a04cdbe947342e3c158eab8bacb136fa (MD5) Previous issue date: 2016-04-07 / The theme of this thesis is institutional assessment in elementary education. For that purpose, it offers an analysis of the evaluation process with emphasis on the assessment tool used by Adventist elementary schools in São Paulo, considering that Adventist education has become a consistent part within the structure of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. The main goal for this study was to understand how the Adventist Educational Network undertakes its institutional assessment. The research method included a literature review of the main theoreticians of public policies, private education, and institutional evaluation. It also included a documentary examination of the assessment tool used in the institutional evaluation process. The study also focuses the historical context of the development of private schools in Brazil, highlighting relevant aspects of their relationship with the State. It also briefly presents the history of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in the United States (US) and in Brazil, in order to contextualize the emergence of the Adventist educational system, as well as its educational philosophy, seeking to understand the origins of this religious group that operates for more than a century in the Brazilian educational scenario. The study then discusses important aspects of institutional evaluations. Finally, it presents a summary of the evaluation process and an analytical description of the institutional assessment tool for SDA elementary schools. In the end, no indications that the Adventist concept of educational evaluation is different from traditional approaches were found. However, the Adventist concept of institutional assessment shows more strongly a concern for maintaining a continuous and systematic evaluation process.

REDENÇÃO, LIBERDADE E SERVIÇO: A CONTRIBUIÇÃO DO PENSAMENTO DE ELLEN GOULD WHITE PARA UMA PRÁXIS EDUCACIONAL LIBERTADORA / Redemption, Freedom and Service: The Contribution of Ellen G. White s Thought for an Liberty Educational Praxis

Suárez, Adolfo Semo 05 April 2010 (has links)
Made available in DSpace on 2016-08-03T12:21:06Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 1 1-Capa e Sumario.pdf: 147742 bytes, checksum: 1b8b275af696fe6de5f6df93ad662575 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2010-04-05 / The objective of this research was to describe and analyze the concepts of redemption, freedom and service in the writings of Ellen Gould White (1827-1915), one of the founders of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, reflecting on the implications for educational practice. We proposed four specific objectives, each of which became one of the chapters of this dissertation. These chapters have been guided by three hypothesis. The first suggested that Ellen White has characteristics that shape as a border thinker who lived on the frontier. Using theories of Walter Mignolo, Boaventura de Souza Santos and Gloria Anzaldúa, it was observed that in Ellen White there are traces of liminality manifests in life and different discourses, which sometimes went against the dominant thinking of the majority, but it was positive for the denomination. The second hypothesis of this study was the existence of three possible approaches that guide the concept of education by Ellen White: redemption, freedom and service. What was once just a bet was confirmed by the reading and analysis of key works of White. So that the full understanding of the Ellen White concepts of education requires an articulate reflection of these three themes. That is not enough that there is a separate reading them or even approach juxtaposed; it is necessary articulation. The third hypothesis was that if the theme of freedom is present in a convincing way in the writings of Ellen White, then we may think that her educational philosophy - and therefore the educational praxis - is directly conditioned by this approach. What can be said at the end of this research is that in the Ellen White writings freedom constitutes a kind of golden thread running through the various issues and hopes raised by the author, beginning with the story of the fall - which means the loss of freedom - and ending with the hopeful narrative of a perfect world - which ultimately responsible freedom is restored. Therefore, the Ellen White notion of education is driven by the issue of human freedom: freedom to think, to develop, to learn, to create, to serve, to let himself be redeemed.(AU) / O objetivo geral desta pesquisa foi descrever e analisar os conceitos de redenção, liberdade e serviço nos escritos de Ellen Gould White (1827-1915), uma das fundadoras da Igreja Adventista do Sétimo Dia, refletindo sobre as implicações para a práxis educacional.

From this conception, we go through the history of Protestantism in Brazil, through the economy to politic and culture, to the influences of the new ideologies brought by the protestants in the education. In this context, we developed this study in order to seek the origin and the philosophy of the adventist education, preached by Ellen G. White, who is considered a prophet by the adventist church. This philosophy has successfully for more than a century. From this perspective we deal with the religion issue to be worked with the learning and teaching processes, regarded as an emergency in a kind of education that a person can become more human in one s relationship with others / Educação como obra missionária é um trabalho que procura por meio de analise de algumas obras, elaborar um conteúdo que possa auxiliar no pensar uma busca na qualidade da educação e também na qualidade de vida.

The contribution and influence of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in the development of post-secondary education in South Nyanza, 1971-2000

Maangi, Eric Nyankanga 14 November 2014 (has links)
This study discusses the contribution and influence of the Seventh-Day Adventist (SDA) Church to the development of post- secondary education in South Nyanza, Kenya. This has been done by focusing on the establishment and development of Kamagambo and Nyanchwa Adventist colleges whose history from 1971 to 2000 has been documented. This is a historical study which has utilized both the primary and secondary source of data. For better and clear insights into this topic, the study starts by discussing the coming of Christian missionaries to Africa. The missionaries who came to Africa introduced western education. The origin of the SDA church to Africa has also been documented. The SDA church was formed as a result of the Christian evangelical revivals in Europe. This called for the Christians to base their faith on the Bible. As people read various prophecies in the bible, they thought that what they read was to be fulfilled in their lifetime. From 1830s to 1840s preachers and lay people from widely different denominations United States of America around William Miller (1782-1849). This led to the establishment of the SDA Church in 1844. The study focuses on the coming of the SDA Missionaries to South-Nyanza. The efforts of the SDA Missionaries to introduce Western education in the said area, an endeavor which started at Gendia in 1906 has been discussed. From Gendia they established Wire mission and Kenyadoto mission in 1909. In 1912 Kamagambo and Nyanchwa, the subject of this study became mission and educational centres. The SDA mission, as was the case with other missionaries who evangelized South Nyanza, took the education of Africans as one of the most important goals for the process of African evangelization. The Adventist message penetrated the people of South Nyanza through their educational work. The conversion of the first converts can be ascribed to the desire for the education which accompanied the new religion. Kamagambo Adventist College became the first college in South Nyanza. Equally, Nyanchwa became the first college in the Gusii part of South Nyanza. The two colleges exercised a great influence on the local community especially in the socio-economic and educational fields. At the same time the colleges have also contributed enormously to the community’s development through the roles played by its alumni in society. Besides this, the study has also recommended some other pertinent areas for further study and research. / Educational Foundations / D. Ed. (History of Education)
