A pedagogia do violoncelo e aspectos de técnicas de reeducação corporal / Violoncello pedagogy and aspects of corporal reeducation techniques.

Suetholz, Robert John 06 May 2011 (has links)
The object of this work is to suggest various possibilities to arrive at a more natural and balanced mode of playing the violoncello. Initially, the general panorama of violoncello pedagogy and technique was analyzed in order to determine conclusions and opinions with regard to pedagogical resources today, together with the personal knowledge of the author. Next, six methods of corporal reeducation were researched, through bibliographic and electronic means, with the author participating in an average of ten private lessons in each technique. Information with regard to the increasing occurrence of physical injuries in the musical class was also analyzed, as well as that pertaining to athletes bodies and their care. All information garnered served as the basis for a discussion aimed at the construction and elaboration of a proposal of a new violoncello pedagogy that strives for a more natural functioning of the body and helps combat detrimental postures, so that future injuries to violoncellists may be avoided.

Tracing the shadow of 'No Mean City' : aspects of class and gender in selected modern Scottish urban working-class fiction

Bryce, Sylvia January 2005 (has links)
This Ph.D. dissertation examines the influence of Alexander McArthur and H. Kingsley Long's novel No Mean City (1935) on the representation of working-class subjectivity in modem Scottish urban fiction. The novel helped to focus literary attention on a predominantly male, working-class, urban and realistic vision of modern Scotland. McArthur and Long explore - in their representations of destructive slum-dwelling characters - the damaging effects of class and gender on working-class identity. The controversy surrounding the book has always been intense, and most critics either deplore or downplay the full significance of No Mean City's literary impact. My dissertation re-examines one of the most disliked and misrepresented working-class novels in modern Scottish literary history. McArthur and Long's literary legacy, notwithstanding its many detractors, has become something to write against. Through examination of works by James Barke, John McNeillie, Edward Gaitens, Robin Jenkins, Bill McGhee, George Friel, William McIlvanney, Alan Spence, Alasdair Gray, James Kelman, Irvine Welsh, Janice Galloway, Agnes Owens, Meg Henderson and A.L. Kennedy, the thesis outlines how the challenge represented by No Mean City has survived the decades following its publication. It argues that contrary to prevailing critical opinion, the novel's influence has been instrumental, not detrimental, to the evolution of modern Scottish literature. Ultimately I hope to pave the way toward a fuller, more nuanced understanding of No Mean City's remarkable impact, and to demonstrate how pervasive its legacy has been to Scottish writers from the 1930s to the 1990s.

Der Naturwissenschaftler Ernst Alexander (1902-1980) - Ein Forscherleben im 20. Jahrhundert

Niese, Siegfried January 2007 (has links)
Ernst Alexander was an assistant of George de Hevesy in the institute of physical chemistry of the university in Freiburg. He was a skillful experimenter with broad knowledge. He has done important contributions in the development of x-ray fluorescence analysis and has been qualified to give lectures at the university. In 1933 shortly after his appointment as lecturer he was dismissed. He went to the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, where he founded the laboratory of experimental physics with a workshop, where he dealt with x-ray structural analysis. During the war he produced spare parts for the British and later for the Israeli army. In 1956 he applied for reparation, but the head of the institute, R.Mecke and the dean did not accept that he would obtain a professorship if he must not leave Germany.

Chr.)

Matthies, Sandra 27 July 2017 (has links)
The history of Egypt during the severan period is a time rich in variety. This epoch is examined on the local coins of the mint of Alexandria which are unique because they were assigned just for the circulation at the Nile. To get an overview about the severan coinage in Egypt more than 7000 alexandrian coins were recorded in different collections and ordered in a typology which should be the basis of the iconographical examimations to get a picture from the iconographic programm of each severan emperor. Following this is an appendix of the coinage of Maximinus Thrax to get a prospect to the following time.

Die vertaling van The No.1 Ladies’ Detective Agency van Alexander McCall Smith : strategieë en besluite tydens die vertaalproses.

Muller, Margaret Beatrice 12 1900 (has links)
Thesis (MPhil (Afruikaans and Dutch))—University of Stellenbosch, 2006. / This descriptive case study is based on the translation of the first part of Alexander McCall Smith’s book, The No.1 Ladies’ Detective Agency, into Afrikaans. Examples of the type of translational problems that this translator experienced, as well as the strategies that were implemented to solve these problems, are discussed in an accompanying annotation. In this way the translator has attempted to explain her thought and decision-making processes during the translation process. Various concepts from translation studies theory, including foreignization and domestication, are discussed with reference to the practical translation, and support the solutions suggested for translational problems. This translator mainly used a foreignizing approach, although some degree of domestication was inevitable at times in order to avoid the alienation of target readers from the target text. The required characteristics of the target text and the knowledge and cultural background of the target readers are therefore also discussed, as both these factors played a defining role during the translation process. The need for Afrikaans literature between the so-called “high literature” and light romantic fiction is discussed, as this contributed to the choice of source text: according to this translator the translation of The No.1 Ladies’ Detective Agency into Afrikaans will be able to help fill this gap. Although this translator understands that financial restrictions play a large role in publishers’ reluctance to publish translations, the statement is made that they should not accept without further ado that an Afrikaans translation will result in a financial loss if no research has been done into the possibilities of that specific translation. Recommendations regarding market research are made and the possibility of future study is indicated.

Tessier, Virginie 05 1900 (has links)
This research focuses on design and architectural conflicts found in modern kitchens. The addition of mechanized objects in the daily food ritual has completely changed the overall dynamic of this space. As a matter of fact, the Occidental architecture of modern kitchens is filled with unsolved contradictions. Based on architectural standards, modular or fitted kitchens do not reflect fresh food’s variety and uniqueness to which they should be dedicated. Kitchens should be the mirror of the innate liveliness of fresh foods and of the pleasure offered by communal meals through human interactions and gustative discoveries. In the hopes of proposing useful tools in order to reestablish a balanced dynamic in these spaces, a theoretical framework was establishedbased on Christopher Alexander’s architectural theories. Alexander is a reknown English mathematician and architect. Supportive of the present research, his theories were inspired by the study of structural and compositionnal qualities of things derived from nature and ancients monuments in order to establish simple and balanced design recommendations (quality of life, patterns, configurations of events, configurations of space, …). These theories helped in planning participatory workshops that have as main objective the empowerment of householders and occupants in their planning of a renovation process. Moreover, as, most of the time, these occupants are non-professionals in the field of architecture and design the workshops have to be quite inuitive. These workshops propose a well supervised process which allows participants to redesign their kitchen space according to their tastes and needs. Working directly on the plan of the floor on which their kitchen is located, participants have as first task to transform the actual kitchen area in their ideal kitchen. The second step of this participatory process is accomplished in teams of participating members; during this step, participants are asked to reduce the importance of planned changes in order to propose a more realistic result. The noted enthusiasm throughout the participatory process has confirmed that non-professionals can develop a high interest for the overall improvement of their daily interactions whether it is with the space or amongst occupants. Thanks to the narratives and drawing material collected during the participatory workshops and to the data analysis, a series of interesting interpretations have emerged. For instance, the data showed the positive influence linked to the use of Alexander’s patterns. Moreover, the analysis underlined the design tendencies that emerged from the use of the patterns in kitchen spaces : definitely, kitchens were transformed in shared and versatile living spaces. Finally, the present research concludes with a series of recommandations linked to various aspects of this research: the structure and organisation of kitchens, participatory workshops and patterns. First, the impact of the use of these architectural notions on spaces is very impressive and was successful. Spaces are well organized, vast, and, most importantly, reflect their daily inhabitants. Moreover, having established the patterns’ versatility and usefullness, some details were noted as to be improved. For exemple, the modernization of some patterns, the time-length of the participatory process, the maximizing of the overall method and the future distribution of the results.

The Kakimizu complex of a link

Banks, Jessica E. January 2012 (has links)
We study Seifert surfaces for links, and in particular the Kakimizu complex MS(L) of a link L, which is a simplicial complex that records the structure of the set of taut Seifert surfaces for L. First we study a connection between the reduced Alexander polynomial of a link and the uniqueness of taut Seifert surfaces. Specifically, we reprove and extend a particular case of a result of Juhasz, using very different methods, showing that if a non-split homogeneous link has a reduced Alexander polynomial whose constant term has modulus at most 3 then the link has a unique incompressible Seifert surface. More generally we see that this constant term controls the structure of any non-split homogeneous link. Next we give a complete proof of results stated by Hirasawa and Sakuma, describing explicitly the Kakimizu complex of any non-split, prime, special alternating link. We then calculate the form of the Kakimizu complex of a connected sum of two non-fibred links in terms of the Kakimizu complex of each of the two links. This has previously been done by Kakimizu when one of the two links is fibred. Finally, we address the question of when the Kakimizu complex is locally infinite. We show that if all the taut Seifert surfaces are connected then MS(L) can only be locally infinite when L is a satellite of a torus knot, a cable knot or a connected sum. Additionally we give examples of knots that exhibit this behaviour. We finish by showing that this picture is not complete when disconnected taut Seifert surfaces exist.
