Från Högsby till "Amerikat" : En studie om Högsby sockens Amerika-migration 1887-1888 / From Högsby to America : A study about Högsby parish America migration 1887-1888

Johnsson, Anton January 2018 (has links)
The purpose of this essay is to describe Högsby parish’s emigration to North America during the years 1887-1888 and to compare it with Sweden's emigration. Emigrants' numbers, age, gender, civil status and occupational distribution are examined. The trends in Högsby parish's emigration are compared with the trends in Sweden's emigration as a whole to see similarities and differences. Source materials used to answer the purpose and the questions are “husförhörslängder”and “in- och ut-flyttningslängder” of Högsby parish 1887-1888. In the background, among other things, Högsby’s population, fertility, and population change are discussed. In total, 178 people emigrated from Högsby parish during the years of exam-ination. The difference in tendencies between the emigration of Högsby parish and Sweden's emigration regarding age distribution, gender distribution and marital status were small or nonexistent. There was a difference in the division of labor. 38.7 % of Högsby’s emigrants were categorized into the main group of professions "Industry and Handicrafts". The same main group of professions percentage for the whole of Sweden's emigration was 17.9 % between the years 1851-1915. The difference can be referred to differences in the cate-gorization of professions as "arbetare" are a very broad concept and source material does not invite to a deeper specification. Another explanation could be that many farmers used their forest land as a capital reserve, which resulted in no need to emigrate, which in turn led to the industry's large share of the occupation of emigrants.

Financial inclusion and microfinance in the Central America

Berežný, Peter January 2017 (has links)
The aim of the thesis is to investigate both theoretically and empirically the potential of financial inclusion in the Central American countries. The topic of microfinance is discussed as it is one of the most important tools for the poor. The emphasis is put on developing the theoretical model of how financial inclusion is able to tackle the developing problems of the region. Furthermore, we study the development and current status of the microfinancial market. We find that the financial inclusion negatively correlates with the inequality. The Central American microfinancial market is very responsive to the legislative changes and along with the technological advances the advances can be made in the future.

Devolusie van finansiële verantwoordelikheid vir die onderwys in die RSA : 'n verkennende studie / Tersia Johanna King

King, Tersia Johanna January 1989 (has links)
The demands of a fast growing third world population on the education system of the Republic of South Africa places great stress on an economy already battling against sanctions and disinvestment. The challenge is to keep up standards of education in order to supply sufficient numbers of qualified manpower to keep the economy going whilst at the same time attempting to create equal educational facilities for an exploding black school population. At the other end of the scale is the problem of dwindling numbers of well qualified white teachers, especially in certain subjects like mathematics, science and commerce as they are recruited into the private sector offering them large increases in salaries. The intention of the study was to try to find a new model for financing and the related decision making of education. The modus operandi was: - i) A theoretical basis to the study was provided by looking at the development of the growing role of the state within the education system and the implications it has for the other participants in the system. ii) A look is taken at the "new right" philosophy as practised by Mrs Thatcher in England where the position of the individual vis-a-vis the state is being re-evaluated. iii) An analysis of the situation surrounding education and the economy as it presents itself in South Africa at the present moment is made. At the same time the position of each of the participants, namely the state, the parents, the educators and employers are evaluated. iv) The English system with its new Education Reform Act and the new concept of school-based management practised in Dade County, Florida in the USA is discussed for purposes of comparison. v) In conclusion a few suggestions are made regarding a future model for financing and managing of educational institutions in the RSA. / Skripsie (MBA)--PU vir CHO, 1989
