Asclepius\' Sanctuaries: architectural, social and religious expressions during the 5th, 4th and 3rd centuries B.C. This master research aims at a better understanding of Asclepius\' Cult within the Greek polis context of the fifth, fourth and third centuries B.C. We intend to apprehend the transformations occurred in this period of great changes within the Greek World. In order to so do, we will analyze ten Sanctuaries dedicated to Asclepius, from Epidaurus, Athens, Corinth, Pergamum, Messene, Kos, Agrigento, Paros, Delos and Velia. We will study their architecture, their geographical location (spatial ositioning) and their planimetry correlating to their poleis. The ancient textual sources, above all Pausanias, will be an important aid through this work.

Fhon, Miguel 10 April 2018 (has links)
This article addresses the principal results of the archaeological excavations at the Casa Bodega y Quadra, which uncovered a series of structures beneath the modern structure located on the site, below thick layers of fill. Archaeological excavations provide evidence that these earlier layers were buried in the wake of the  earthquake that devastated the city of Lima in 1746. Comparison between these earlier structures and historical data demonstrates how space within the site was transformed from public to domestic – processes directly related to the evolution of the urban layout of viceregal Lima.

Silvério Neto, Adriane 21 August 2015 (has links)
This work investigates how the architectural language was addressed in conceptualists trends of the 1960s, with reference to two works: Eden and Instant City, respectively Helio Oiticica and Archigram. It is used as theme rationale, theory and application of Umberto Eco texts - mainly Estrutura Ausente - along with other writings and theorists who were selected, researched and aggregated for the enrichment of this research. In order to understand how to determine the architectural design proposal and the architectural structures in these works studied here, we intend to place the innovations of these productions in the midst of changes which then processed, questioning how they shook key points in the production of this group of British architects and Brazilian artist - especially as regards the relationship between spatial perception, the design paper to represent their propositions and architectural language to the art and post-modern architecture. Therefore, the project and the design will be addressed as the subject of research, as architectural language, analyzing the interests of their creators. Ultimately, this research aims to identify common standards and procedures and, according to the possible point as the drawing representations and architectural objects were employed. And yet, its importance to art and architecture. Paying attention in making a difference and behavior of proximity of objects of study adopted here: we believe the convergence point would be the interpretation of the fragmented architecture objects; and the point of difference would be the value assigned to the project as proposition for Eden and Instant City / Este trabalho, investiga como a linguagem arquitetônica foi abordada nas tendências conceitualistas dos anos 1960, tendo como referência duas obras: Éden e Instant City, respectivamente de Hélio Oiticica e Archigram.

Beyond the electronic connection : the technologically manufactured cyber-human and its physical human counterpart in performance : a theory related to convergence identities

Sharir, Yacov January 2013 (has links)
This thesis is an investigation of the complex processes and relationships between the physical human performer and the technologically manufactured cyber-human counterpart. I acted as both researcher and the physical human performer, deeply engaged in the moment-to-moment creation of events unfolding within a shared virtual reality environment. As the primary instigator and activator of the cyber-human partner, I maintained a balance between the live and technological performance elements, prioritizing the production of content and meaning. By way of using practice as research, this thesis argues that in considering interactions between cyber-human and human performers, it is crucial to move beyond discussions of technology when considering interactions between cyber-humans and human performers to an analysis of emotional content, the powers of poetic imagery, the trust that is developed through sensory perception and the evocation of complex relationships. A theoretical model is constructed to describe the relationship between a cyber-human and a human performer in the five works created specifically for this thesis, which is not substantially different from that between human performers. Technological exploration allows for the observation and analysis of various relationships, furthering an expanded understanding of ‘movement as content’ beyond the electronic connection. Each of the works created for this research used new and innovative technologies, including virtual reality, multiple interactive systems, six generations of wearable computers, motion capture technology, high-end digital lighting projectors, various projection screens, smart electronically charged fabrics, multiple sensory sensitive devices and intelligent sensory charged alternative performance spaces. They were most often collaboratively created in order to augment all aspects of the performance and create the sense of community found in digital live dance performances/events. These works are identified as one continuous line of energy and discovery, each representing a slight variation on the premise that a working, caring, visceral and poetic content occurs beyond the technological tools. Consequently, a shift in the physical human’s psyche overwhelms the act of performance. Scholarship and reflection on the works have been integral to my creative process throughout. The goals of this thesis, the works created and the resulting methodologies are to investigate performance to heighten the multiple ways we experience and interact with the world. This maximizes connection and results in a highly interactive, improvisational, dynamic, non-linear, immediate, accessible, agential, reciprocal, emotional, visceral and transformative experience without boundaries between the virtual and physical for physical humans, cyborgs and cyber-humans alike.
