The visual arts plant

Ingram, Robin January 1986 (has links)
The Art Department at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University is based in the leased space of the Armory and in the basement of Owens Hall. The Art Department also holds classes in as many as four other buildings on campus. My proposal is to consolidate the Art Department’s activities into one formal building. I call this building The Visual Arts Plant. The Visual Arts Plant contains the rooms, equipment, machinery, tools, instruments, and fixtures necessary to facilitate and promote a visual arts education. This thesis is a documentation of my ideas for The Visual Arts Plants. / Master of Architecture

Motivační faktory ovlivňující práci ředitelů ZUŠ / Motivational factors influencing the work of the primary art schools' principals

Kadeřábek, Antonín January 2015 (has links)
This work focuses on the motivation of the primary art schools' principals in the Region of Karlovy Vary, with the aim of establishing which specific factors influence it. First of all, I defined the factors that, based on expert literature and other research, influence people's motivation. Afterwards I studied how the individual factors motivate the primary art schools' principals in the Region of Karlovy Vary through questions in a survey. All principals in the region were surveyed. The data obtained was analyzed with the use of statistical methods and interpreted afterwards. On the basis of the obtained data analysis, I established for the individual factors how much they influence the motivation of the principals surveyed. There was significant or highly significant impact established for a total of 35 factors. These results were also compared with other research studying similar issues. The results mostly corresponded with four studies, and they differed from one. The results of this work extend the empirical knowledge in this field. They can be used as groundwork for further research or by the bodies establishing the primary art schools or other institutions that step into the work of the primary art schools' principals to increase their motivation.

Tradition and innovation : Rorke's Drift ceramics in the collection of the Durban Art Gallery, KwaZulu-Natal.

Hosking, Sarah. January 2005 (has links)
The Rorke's Drift Art and Craft Centre is examined in its historical context. In order to place the pottery workshop in the context of the Evangelical Lutheran Church (ELC) Arts and Crafts Centre, the history of the centre's other workshops, Fabric printing and Weaving as well as the Fine Art School will be compared and contrasted. The pottery workshop is investigated and compared with the printmaking of Rorke's Drift. A selection of Rorke's Drift ceramics from the Durban Art Gallery's collection has been selected and examined to determine some of the stylistic changes that have occurred in the Rorke's Drift Pottery studio from 1970 to 1994. Fifteen works appear in an illustrated catalogue which examines the imagery and stylistic content of each work. The similarities between the prints of Rorke's Drift artists and the ceramics are explored; gender issues are analysed. / Thesis (M.A.)-University of KwaZulu-Natal, Pietermaritzburg, 2005

Challenges and Opportunities for BFA Programs: Focus on Textiles Education

Kim, Hyunsoo January 2024 (has links)
Certain disjunctions exist between the structure, courses, and practices of current textile curricula on the one hand, and the demands of students for entry into diverse creative professions and the demands of the creative industry for qualified new talents on the other. Thus, this research will explore the history, current issues, and emerging trends of academia and the creative professions as these shape the qualifications, aspirations, and expectations of students, academia, and the textile-related fields. The ultimate goal of this study is to comprehend the contemporary issues—social, economic, and cultural shifts—that may impact textile education within art and design colleges, and propose an efficient and engaging BFA (Bachelor of Fine Arts) textile curriculum suitable for the era of interdisciplinary education and the fourth industrial revolution. Since scholarly study of the effectiveness of art school curriculum is limited and little research has examined the challenges of BFA education, and in particular BFA textile education in the context of 21st century college education, the researcher begins with a survey of existing literature from adjacent fields, including higher education, sociology, business, marketing, apparel, and art education, in particular, adolescent artistic development. The existing literature also includes statistics from government, consulting firms, colleges ranking sites, and annual reports published by each school. This qualitative case study examines how stakeholders in BFA textile education—students, faculty, and professionals—from five selected art colleges in the U.S. perceive their educational experiences and post-college careers. The data were collected through 1) a review of existing literature pertaining to perspectives of general college education, creative industry, and current student generation, and 2) qualitative data gathered through initial surveys and verbal interviews, including two pilot studies. Stakeholder perspectives obtained through interviews are interpreted through the following theoretical frameworks: 1) the business perspective aiming at the success of all stakeholders; 2) the marketing perspective aiming at improving stakeholder satisfaction as a means of enhancing the operational efficiency of organizations; and 3) the educational perspective aiming to create effective teaching and engaging learning environments for the success of today's young creative talents. The researcher contends that the findings strongly suggest curricular and pedagogy change in accordance with societal changes and demands of the stakeholders—current student generation, creative industry, and academia—while at the same time informing the significant value of college education, BFA education, and textile education in the 21st century.

1 ABSTRACT The thesis discusses possibilities of application of the concept of lifelong education in Basic Art Schools. The goal of the thesis is to propose a basic model of adult education which could be applied in Basic Art Schools. It focuses on the analysis of the literature on lifelong learning, lifewide learning, further education, and also on the analysis of strategic documents of the European Union and the Czech Republic in the field of lifelong learning and further education. Based on the analyses of the documents and external environment, a model of adult education in Basic Art Schools is proposed, the applicability of which is verified by a research investigation. La réforme des écoles d'art françaises : une approche théorique à la frontière de la sociologie des organisations et la socio-économie de la culture / The French art schools reformation : a sociological approach crossing economy of culture and organizational perspective

Sidorcenco, Dalia 10 October 2016 (has links)
In 2011, following an accelerated reformation movement led by the network of French art schools, they joined the European area of higher education, getting out of the ''regime of singularity '', which distinguished them from the university system. This adherence note the accomplishment of a series of measures, whose implementation was intended to affect two distinct dimensions, constituting the reality of art schools: -the academic dimension, including the ''upgrading'' of curricula and restructuring the pedagogical organization, which allowed to accredit the awarded degree with a recognized diploma; -the administrative dimension, which through the transformation of municipal art schools into Public Cultural Cooperation Establishment (EPCC) aimed to start the empowerment process of local authorities. The aim of this research was to perceive the new issues regarding the art schools, one of them being the factors that stimulated the ''upgrading'' of the art schools condition. The other issue examined the governance tools that made possible and effective the deployment of autonomy decreed.
