Dětský aspekt ve vybraných dílech anglo-amerických autorů / Children's View of Narration in Selected Pieces of Anglo-American Prose

BRABCOVÁ, Petra January 2016 (has links)
The presented thesis focuses on the phenomenon of child narrator/protagonist in the role of the main actor and intermediary of fictional world in literature for adults. The first chapter is devoted mainly to the theoretical concept of narrator as a significant narratological category. The second chapter presents literature for children and youth in comparison to literature primarily intended for adult readers and looks for their mutual inspirations. Above all, the concept of children aspect is defined. In the practical part, the thesis aims for stylistic analysis, thematic interpretation and comparison of four narrative texts from Anglophone literature. These are The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison, Black Swan Green by David Mitchell, Pigeon English by Stephen Kelman and Cormac McCarthy's The Road. These texts, having a child narrator/protagonist in common, are not primarily intended to be read by children. I see this as a certain strategy of writers, which however fully functions only in such a case, when the authenticity of child narrator/protagonist is maintained. Thus, such elements which we could connect with the concept of children aspect are deliberately used there. My objective is therefore to link the concept of children aspect with a specifically defined literature for adults. I also inquire why child narrators/protagonists are used in literature for adults and what their functions are, how and to what extent can a child narrator/protagonist convey fictional world, what the children in the followed texts are like, how the perceive the world around them, how they impart to us what they see, think and feel, and what possibilities of description of the world through a child's eyes it offers to authors.

Univerzita Karlova v Praze Filozofická fakulta Ústav anglického jazyka a didaktiky Didaktika konkrétního jazyka Iva K o u t s k á Specifické aspekty výuky cizích jazyků u seniorů/účastníků univerzity třetího věku Specific aspects of teaching foreign languages to seniors/participants of the University of the Third Age ABSTRAKT (anglická verze) 2015 vedoucí práce: doc. PhDr. Pavla Zajícová, Ph.D. Abstract The following thesis deals with chosen aspects of teaching seniors at universities of the third age (U3A) and specific aspects of teaching foreign languages to seniors at U3As. The thesis focuses on the ambiguity of the term "senior" and discuses existence or nonexistence of an independent scientific discipline dealing with education of seniors. The thesis characterizes chosen institutions of education of seniors and chosen specific aspects of this process. In the empirical part the thesis compares four case studies of education of seniors and teaching foreign languages to seniors at: 1) U3A in Malta, 2) U3As in Scotland, 3) U3As in the Czech Republic and 4) at the Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem U3A. The aim of the thesis is to present a more complex insight to the above described problem which is a complicated and interdisciplinary topic, not much described in an expert literature....

Phasal adverbials in the Romance languages / Fasala adverb i de romanska språken

Santamaría Vaquer, Mar January 2021 (has links)
This thesis studies the equivalents of the words already, still, not yet and no longer in the Romance languages. These concepts constitute an onomasiological domain located in the periphery of aspect that have come to be known as phasal polarity expressions. Specifically, this thesis studies the phasal polarity adverbials in 45 Romance varieties belonging to 34 distinct Romance languages. The data were collected using a variety of written sources and ellicitated material, and were analysed according to three of Kramer's parameters: expressibility, coverage and wordhood. The results are generally in line with previous literature but diverging phenomena have also been observed. The findings of this study add to the growing body of literature on the topic and lay the foundation for more thorough descriptions of phasal polarity in the Romance languages.

Slovanský slovesný vid ve skandinávských jazycích: srovnání a možnosti překladu na příkladu češtiny, ukrajinštiny a švédštiny / Aspect in the Slavic and Scandinavian languages: comparison and interlingual translation with examples from Czech, Ukrainian and Swedish

Polishchuk, Daria January 2021 (has links)
(på engelska): This thesis aims to investigate what the verbal aspect as a grammatical verb category entails, how it is formed and expressed in Slavic languages, namely in Czech and Ukrainian. In addition to verbal aspect, aktionsart is also examined. Initially, the focus is on the definition of the most relevant terms, while specific examples of aktionsart and usage of perfective and imperfective aspect are emphasized later in the study. In addition, the various aspectual means available in languages that lack aspect as a grammatical category are analyzed, with Swedish as an example. Special attention is given to phrasal verbs as an aspect marker. Furthermore, the thesis contains a corpus-driven research that focuses on the translation of Czech and Ukrainian perfective verbs into Swedish (27 verbs in total) and aims to see to what extent verbal particles are used when translating perfective aspect. The analysis shows that phrasal verbs are a relatively frequent means to translate perfective aspect, even though there seems to be a high degree of a translator's subjective judgement about whether or not phrasal verbs are appropriate in certain situations. Nevertheless, it is clear that phrasal verbs contribute to a more bounded and thus perfective meaning. The exact number of the results with phrasal...

Pilátová, Markéta January 2020 (has links)
Theoretical part of the thesis is a scientific research of latest articles about frozen shoulder syndrome with accent to immunohistochemical level. At the same time, based on scientific literature it aims to clarify and statistically prove multifactorial causes of this syndrome especially in women going through hormonal changes. Psychosocial factors are also taken into account in this study and examined by unique questionnaire that was made expressly for this thesis. The questionnaire originates from internationally accepted clinimetrics such as VAS, SPADI, DASH score and most importantly SF-36. The theoretical research part also consists of "Therapy" chapter which describes latest trending treatment method for this condition. Experimental part, which consists of few case reports, focuses on a group of female patients who underwent range of motion measurement including functional testing of the affected limb. Next step followed was consecutive twelve minutes exercise on bicycle. They were controlled not to cross over anaerobic threshold. Level of exercise was controlled by predicted heart rate and estimation of the threshold by basic calculation and also by subjective Borg's scale of effort determined by the patient. After the bicycle exercise the range of motion was measured again and compared to the...

Med hedern i behåll : En fallstudie om kommuners arbete mot hedersrelaterat våld och förtryck

Malalay, Habibi January 2017 (has links)
Purpose: The purpose of this study has been to investigate how different municipalities act in their work against honor-related violence and abuse to increase understanding on how to best counteract honor-related violence and abuse. Method: This is a case study with an inductive approach that revolves around how municipalities implement decisions taken by the government and how they handle problems associated with the process of implementation. Datacollection has been made through interviews with different respondents that work against honor-related violence and abuse. Material: All material used in this survey has been gathered from the governments ten year strategy against honor-related violence and abuse, documents from the different municipalities websites regarding their work against honor-related violence and abuse as well as interviews with personal from the municipalities. Conclusion: The survey has shown that for the municipalities to be able to counteract honor-related violence and abuse, and to do what is expected of them, a variety of efforts is needed. The survey has also shown that there is some degree of co-operation between municipalities and non-profit organizations, however it was not clear if some level of co-operation between the municipalities and other authorities existed. It was also unclear how implementation of government decisions was performed. It was also established that the municipalities created regulations and guidelines based on the national board of health and welfare and government decisions.

Elusive Depictions of Time : An analysis of Japanese temporal connectors expressing 'before'

Aspholm, Oscar January 2019 (has links)
This study explores the two Japanese temporal connectors mae ni and nai uchi ni that express the notion of ‘before.’ These have been claimed to differ in factuality and certainty (Kuno, 1973) and on pragmatic grounds in the form of speaker attitude (Hasegawa, 2015). Using The Balanced Corpus of Contemporary Written Japanese, this study investigates the veracity of previous findings and aims to further deepen the understanding of what sets these two temporal connectors apart. Rather than in factuality or certainty, they are found to differ in lexical aspect and predicate class tendencies, as well as the ability to express minimal scales that work similarly to negative Horn scales in the case of nai uchi ni. As these are more informative the smaller they are, this also explains the pragmatic aspects that have been identified in previous research.
