Presence of Burnout in Undergraduate Athletic Training Students

Riter, Tamra Sparks 19 July 2006 (has links) (PDF)
Objective: To determine if undergraduate athletic training students enrolled in an athletic training education program (ATEP) and participating in a clinical assignment have burnout and if so, the possible causes. Design and Setting: All undergraduate athletic training students enrolled in a clinical education course were surveyed twice in an eight week period. The surveys were given during the fourth week and the twelfth week of the winter 2006 semester. As part of the survey, each participant also answered eight demographic/status questions for correlation purposes. Subjects: Fifty-one undergraduate athletic training students in a western United States university's accredited ATEP served as subjects for this study. Measurements: Data was analyzed using analysis of covariance with categorical independent variables and continuous covariants. Emotional exhaustion (EE), depersonalization (DP), and personal accomplishment (PA) were scored in accordance with the MBI-HSS. Post hoc testing was done when interactions/effects were significant at the p = .05 level. Dependent variables consisted of the three subsets of burnout (EE, DP, and PA). Results: Overall mean scores demonstrated a moderate level (17.0) of EE, low levels (5.7) of DP, and moderate level (38.0) of PA. Fourth (+) semester students reported high DP levels (13.3) and high levels of EE (30.9). Semester effect (p = pre- 0.0001; post- 0.007), marital/serious relationship status by gender interaction (p = pre- 0.008; post- 0.02) and semester by gender interaction (p = pre- 0.0017; post- 0.005) all had an effect on EE for both testing times. For DP, marital/serious relationship status by semester interaction (p = pre- 0.0121; post- 0.003), semester (p = pre- 0.0001; post- 0.0003), and semester by gender interaction (p = pre- 0.0001; post- 0.0001) were significant interactions/effects for both pre and post-tests. Conclusions: This study showed that with moderate PA, low DP, and moderate EE undergraduate athletic training students, demonstrated a moderate degree of burnout from their clinical assignments. The expectations of the ATEP appear to have a cumulative effect which is evidenced in the fourth (+) semester showing a high/average degree of burnout.

Teacher assignment and Lpo 94

Klang, Mikael, Eklund, Fredrik January 2011 (has links)
The aim of this study is to show how the Lpo 94 has affected the teachers professional role in Physical education. Eight teachers from the south of Skåne were used as informants. The main question asked is; What impact did the Lpo 94 have to teachers of Physical education? The main question is also monitored by three subqueries: How do the teachers in Physical education feel that the interpretation of the objectives for Lpo 94 have changed from its entrance until today? What did the “work team” and the changing organization influence the teachers in Physical education? Were the PE teachers ready for the change?A qualitative interview method is used and the results show that the progress of Lpo 94 has gone very slowly and that it still hasen´t been enforced in many schools. According to the PE teachers there are several reasons to why it hasen´t been enforced but a common denominator is the increased workload. Lpo 94 meant new organizations, new cooperation in teams, mentoring and other forms of time-consuming burdens. Physical education and its new design were not adapted to the organizational changes that the school underwent at the same time. Further discussed and analyzed in the study is how the various teachers handled the new assignment and what their different values and actions can be based on. The study also deals with Physical Education and its legitimacy in terms of other school subjects and other factors that have affected the PE teachers work after the introduction of Lpo 94.

The k-assignment Polytope and the Space of Evolutionary Trees

Gill, Jonna January 2004 (has links)
This thesis consists of two papers. The first paper is a study of the structure of the k-assignment polytope, whose vertices are the m x n (0; 1)-matrices with exactly k 1:s and at most one 1 in each row and each column. This is a natural generalisation of the Birkhoff polytope and many of the known properties of the Birkhoff polytope are generalised. Two equivalent representations of the faces are given, one as (0; 1)-matrices and one as ear decompositions of bipartite graphs. These tools are used to describe properties of the polytope, especially a complete description of the cover relation in the face lattice of the polytope and an exact expression for the diameter. The second paper studies the edge-product space Є(X) for trees on X. This space is generated by the set of edge-weighted finite trees on X, and arises by multiplying the weights of edges on paths in trees. These spaces are closely connected to tree-indexed Markov processes in molecular evolutionary biology. It is known that Є(X) has a natural CW-complex structure, and a combinatorial description of the associated face poset exists which is a poset S(X) of X-forests. In this paper it is shown that the edge-product space is a regular cell complex. One important part in showing that is to conclude that all intervals [Ô, Г], Г Є S(X), have recursive coatom orderings.

Elevator Supervisory Group Control systems : Analyzing the performance of elevator assignment algorithms in varying environments

Blades, Christoffer, Boyraz, Filiz January 2015 (has links)
Elevators are used every day and that puts expectations on how fast an elevator can handle passenger requests. This report aims to describe different elevator assignment algorithms for Elevator Supervisory Group Control (ESGC) systems and compare them to each other, with an emphasis on the delay time. To research the field of ESGC systems four different algorithms were chosen and implemented: Simple control, Zone control, Collective control and Fuzzy control. The algorithms were also chosen in such a way that their strategies differentiated from each other to some degree. The algorithms were then tested under conditions similar to an office building with interfloor traffic. Five different test cases demonstrated the performance and behavior of the strategies in varying environments. While Collective control proved to have a consistent performance, the more calculated Fuzzy control had the best statistical results. Zone control was the most affected by challenging conditions such as high traffic in the building. Simple control divided the workload equally, but did not make suitable elevator assignments.

Biodistance analysis of Hispanic skeletons

Carreras, Annette Rodriguez January 2013 (has links)
The morphoscopic traits used to assign the term Hispanic to a skeleton constitute mainly a mixture of characteristics that have been assigned by anthropologists to Asian and Caucasian ancestry groups. Therefore, the morphological characteristics for the population termed Hispanic are not well defined. The aim of this study is to conduct a biodistance analysis of skeletons of Hispanic ancestry from Puerto Rico. The purpose of this is to assess how similar their morphoscopic characteristics are to other populations termed Hispanic as well as populations termed Asian. The analysis will be conducted by taking craniometric measurements. Pre-Colombian as well as modern skeletons from Puerto Rico will be examined and compared to other Hispanic as well as Asian populations that form part of the Forensic Anthropology Data Bank (FDB). Results from this study will help characterize Hispanic skeletal variation. In addition, this study will discuss the complexities of Hispanic classification in forensic anthropological contexts.

EFFICIENT DATA ASSOCIATION ALGORITHMS FOR MULTI-TARGET TRACKING

Li, Jingqun January 2019 (has links)
Efficient multi-dimensional assignment algorithms and their application in multi-frame tracking / In this work, we propose a novel convex dual approach to the multidimensional dimensional assignment problem, which is an NP-hard binary programming problem. It is shown that the proposed dual approach is equivalent to the Lagrangian relaxation method in terms of the best value attainable by the two approaches. However, the pure dual representation is not only more elegant, but also makes the theoretical analysis of the algorithm more tractable. In fact, we obtain a su cient and necessary condition for the duality gap to be zero, or equivalently, for the Lagrangian relaxation approach to nd the optimal solution to the assignment problem with a guarantee. Also, we establish a mild and easy-to-check condition, under which the dual problem is equivalent to the original one. In general cases, the optimal value of the dual problem can provide a satisfactory lower bound on the optimal value of the original assignment problem. We then extend the purely dual formulation to handle the more general multidimensional assignment problem. The convex dual representation is derived and its relationship to the Lagrangian relaxation method is investigated once again. Also, we discuss the condition under which the duality gap is zero. It is also pointed out that the process of Lagrangian relaxation is essentially equivalent to one of relaxing the binary constraint condition, thus necessitating the auction search operation to recover the binary constraint. Furthermore, a numerical algorithm based on the dual formulation along with a local search strategy is presented. Finally, the newly proposed algorithm is shown to outperform the Lagrangian relaxation method in a number of multi-target tracking simulations. / Thesis / Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)
