Development of bilateral control for pneumatic actuated teleoperation system

Le, Minh-Quyen 08 December 2011 (has links) (PDF)
The aim of this thesis is to investigate the development and control of electro-pneumatic actuators in a haptic teleoperation system. For controlling the mass flow rate of such actuators, two types of valve technology are sudied, i.e. solenoid (on/off) valve and proportional servovalve. The servovalves have found widespread applications in which high accuracy of force/position control are needed. They are however typically expensive due to the requirements of high-precision manufacturing. Therefore, the low-cost solenoid valves can be an alternative to the servovalves for achieving acceptable-performance pneumatic control. Generally, the highly nonlinear of the pneumatic actuator is heightened when it uses on/off solenoid valves instead of servovalves. In this case, precise control is challenging due to the discrete-input nature of the system. Our first objective is to demonstrate that it is possible to design an acceptable performance teleoperation system using master-slave robots that have pneumatic actuators equipped with only inexpensive on/off solenoid valves. To control efficiently the switching valves, several control approaches have been proposed, namely pulse width modulation (PWM), hybrid algorithm, and sliding mode control. A hybrid control theory, which includes more switching control modes, than PWM, allows to reduce the chattering problem and improve the energy consumption of the valves. Another strategy (i.e. a sliding mode control), which does not depend on the pneumatic model, is proposed. This control stratgy allows to perform not only the transparent analysis but also the stability analysis. In order to improve the dynamic performance and reduce the chattering problem in solenoid valve actuated pneumatic teleoperation systems, a five-mode sliding control scheme has been used, which can be considered as an extension of the three-mode sliding controller. Our study demonstrates that by increasing the number of possible control actions for the valves, we can reduce the valves' switching activities, hence improving the valve's life times at no cost to teleoperation transparency. The second objective of the thesis involves in implementing the proportional servovalves on the pneumatic teleoperation system. A comparison related to the teleoperation performance between an on/off valve and a servovalve is carried out. In experiments, it is observed that with the bilateral teleoperation architecture employing solenoid valves or servovalves, satisfactory force and position tracking between the master and the slave is obtained. In bilateral teleoperation control, force sensors are often omitted to save cost and to lessen weight and volume. Therefore, another aspect of our work consists in using observers for an estimation of operator and environment forces. Experimental results show that acceptable teleoperation transparency based on a simple Nicosia observer and a tangent linear control approach can be achieved.

Effect of component stiffness and deformation on vehicle lateral drift during braking

Mirza, N., Hussain, Khalid, Day, Andrew J., Klaps, J. January 2009 (has links)
This article presents a simulation study into effects of compliant (flexible) components (such as the engine subframe and the lower control arm) and their deflections on the characteristics of a vehicle experiencing steering drift during straight-line braking. The vehicle front and rear suspension are modelled using multi-body dynamic analysis software. The front suspension model represents theMacPherson strut design of the vehicle and includes a rack and pinion steering system, brake system, engine subframe, and a powertrain unit. The model has been analysed under two steering control methods: fixed and free control. Suspension characteristics and the effect of deflections arising from the subframe and the lower control arm on these suspension characteristics have been analysed. The simulations confirmed that variation of component stiffness and interactions within components give rise to side-to-side deflections that could affect lateral drift during braking. It is concluded that side-to-side variation of suspension characteristics can have a detrimental effect on lateral drift during braking and that compliant components whose stiffness varies from side to side can cause different side-to-side deflections that can induce and influence variation in suspension characteristics such as toe steer angle that can lead the vehicle during braking.

Conception et commande optimale d’une architecture hybride hydraulique de reach stacker / Design and optimal control of the hydraulic hybrid architecture of a reach stacker

Schaep, Thomas 18 November 2016 (has links)
The continuously increasing of the intercontinental trade as well as the globalization lead to the need of higher productivity for ports and container terminals. In order to fulfill the need of competitiveness of terminal operators and in the same time respect the environmental legislation, container handling machine manufacturers are developping new solutions. Hybridization of energy sources is an interesting way but using more energy efficient actuation lines is also suitable. As a consequence, specifications are more and more complex, and can in particular have heterogeneous natures. In this thesis, the focus is made on two main topics linked to those problematics. On the one hand, a methodology concerning the sizing of over-actuated systems thanks to a coupling between inverse problems and dynamic optimization is exposed. On the other hand, the design, control strategies and an experimental validation of an hybrid actuation line applied to an container handling machine is presented. First of all, we propose a new procedure based on the bond graph language allowing the designer to take into account simultaneously two types of specifications, namely a cost function to minimize and functions of time specifying desired outputs of the system. This results in a coupled problem of state-space inversion and optimization. The procedure lead to a bond graph from which it is possible to directly derive the analytical system of the problem. The fundamental theory for proving the effectiveness of this procedure is carried out using the port hamiltonian systems. The bond graph representation of an optimal control problem is then extended to systems involving non linearities on dissipative R elements. In a second part, a new actuation architecture is proposed for a container handling machine, in order to improve the fuel efficiency. On the one hand, a transformer based system to recover the potential energy released during container lowering is exposed. This energy is stored into a hydropneumatic accumulator. Then, it is returned thanks to an extra hydraulic motor coupled to the engine shaft. On the other hand, a resizing of the main hydraulic pumps as well as a more suitable control law is proposed in order to make the engine work at better efficiency points. All those evolutions previously mentionned give now the possibility to perform kinetic energy recuperation during vehicle deceleration without adding any major component. The new architecture combined with more effetive control laws lead to a fuel consumption reduction of 16% up to 18%. Finally, the potential energy recovery system is validated on a test rig. The control laws are implemented and the dynamic and energetic performances are then analysed.

Approximation and applications of distributed delay

Lu, Hao 01 October 2013 (has links) (PDF)
A distributed delay is a linear input-output operators and appears in many control problems. We investigate distributed delay and its applications. After introducing the definition and the main properties of the distributed delay, the numerical implementation problem of distributed delays is analyzed and a general method for its approximation is given. Then three applications are focused on where distributed delay appears. The first application is the stable inversion and model matching. A new class of stable inversion and model matching problem for finite dimensional linear time-invariant systems is defined. The stable inversion (resp. model matching) is an approximation of the inverse of a given model (resp. model matching), where exact inversion (resp. exact matching) is reached after a time $t=h$, which is a parameter of our procedure. The second application is concerned with stabilization and finite spectrum assignment for a class of infinite dimensional systems. The last application concerns observer synthesis for estimation or output control. For linear finite dimensional systems. A closed-loop memoryless observer by input injection is introduced. Asymptotic convergence as well as finite time convergence of the estimation are analyzed by output injection and input information via distributed delay. At last, we introduce a new class for approximation of distributed parameter systems. We work on the graph topology, and show that under some weak assumptions, such an approximation can be realized using distributed delay.

Marques, Ana Paula da Silva January 2011 (has links)
The design was organized in two stages: general composition and auditory-graphic design. The visual-dynamic maps were designed based on cartographic communication principles and visual perception, especially on the generalization operators. The area of study presents an urban network with different types of roads, nodes, and speed limits. The maps were designed for a small-screen display, and a total of four different scales were employed: 1:10.000, 1:5.000, 1:2.500 and 1:1.000. These scales were chosen according to the media size and type of tactical task. The maps were derived from an accurate cartographic database at scale of 1:1000, by applying generalization techniques, such as simplification, displacement, and enhancement. The audio-dynamic representations were produced by taking account a set of audio-dynamic variables. The voice messages were recorded in a female voice, and they were presented with visual information, simultaneously. The design was implemented in a navigation system, which is available in the Faculty of Sciences and Technology, by using Visual Basic compiler and MapObjects library. The results of comparison between the automatic multiple-scale and single scale system show that the new system, enhanced driver's context, can allow the user receiving information according to the tasks performed along of the route. From the employment of generalization technique it was possible to present in a properly way the amount of information in the display, in which it can contribute for reducing navigational errors and visual demand, when compared with single-scale map ... From optic flow sensing to visually guided strategies to control a Micro Aerial Vehicle

Expert, Fabien 21 October 2013 (has links)
In this thesis, we first developed and characterized optic flow sensors robust to illuminance changes inspired by the visual system of the fly and computing the angular speed thanks to the "time of travel" scheme. In particular, we have compared the performances of sensors processing the visual angular speed based on a standard retina or an aVLSI retina composed of pixels automatically adapting to the background illuminance in indoor and outdoor environments. The results of such bio-inspired sensors have also been compared with optic mouse sensors which are used nowadays on Micro Aerial Vehicles to process the optic flow but only in outdoor environments. Finally, a new implementation of the "time of travel" scheme has been proposed reducing the computational load of the processing unit.In the framework of the European project CurvACE, we also participated to the design and development of the first curved artificial compound eye including fast motion detection in a very large range of illuminations. In particular, we characterized such sensor showing its ability to extract optic flow using different algorithms. Finally, we also developed a tethered miniature aerial robot equipped with sensors and control strategies mimicking flying insects navigating in a high-roof tunnel. This robot may explain how honeybees control their speed and position thanks to optic flow, while demonstrating alternative solution to classical robotic approach relying on ground-truth and metric sensors. Based only on visuomotor control loops reacting suitably to the environment, this rotorcraft has shown its ability to fly autonomously in complex and unstationary tunnels.

Kombé, Timothée 30 June 2011 (has links)
We present in this thesis a method to assess a system efficiency based on modelling of the temporal and stochastic spread of faults. The OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) has become through the NF E60-182 standard one of the major indicators of the effectiveness in piloting production systems. It includes 3 main concepts (Quality, Performance and Availability). If its evaluation can be easy for a single system, the modeling of its components for the global efficiency assessment is much more difficult (taking into account redundancies, temporal scale factors…).in order to take in account the local contribution of each component of complex production system, a notion of OTE (Overall Throughput Effectiveness) is developed. The purpose of OTE is twofold: it measures factory-level performance and factory-level diagnostics such as bottleneck detection. The expected result gives a formal contribution to establishment a methodology for analysis, design, and decision-making. The results are discussed using a demonstrator based on AltaRica Data-Flow, language in both formal and graphic and real tool modeling / simulation.

Development of bilateral control for pneumatic actuated teleoperation system / Synthèse de lois de commande pour des systèmes de téléopération à actionnement pneumatique

Le, Minh-Quyen 08 December 2011 (has links)
The aim of this thesis is to investigate the development and control of electro-pneumatic actuators in a haptic teleoperation system. Approximation and applications of distributed delay / Approximation et applications de retard distributé

Lu, Hao 01 October 2013 (has links)
A distributed delay is a linear input-output operators and appears in many control problems. Conception sûre de systèmes embarqués à base de COTS / Safe design method of embedded systems based on COTS

Hajjar, Salam 16 July 2013 (has links)
This PhD dissertation contributes to the safe design of COTS-based control-command embedded systems. Due to design constraints bounding delays, costs and engineering resources, component re-usability has become a key issue in embedded design. Our proposal is a design method which ensures correction of COTS-based designs. This method uses in synergy a number of design techniques and tools. It starts from modeling of the COTS components which are stored in a generic COTS library, and ends with a design of the global control-command system, verified to be free of errors and ready to be implemented over a hardware chip such as an ASIC or an FPGA "Field Programmable Gate Array". The designer starts by modeling the temporal and logical local preconditions and postconditions of each COTS component, then the global pre/post conditions of the assembly which are not necessary a simple combination of local properties. He models also a list of properties that must be satisfied by the assembly. Any violation of these properties is defined as a design error. Then, by using the model checking approach the model of the assembly is verified against the predefined local and global properties. Some design errors can be corrected automatically through the Discrete Controller Synthesis method (DCS), others however must be manually corrected. After the correction step, the controlled control-command system is verified. Finally a global simulation step is proposed in order to perform a system-level verification beyond the capabilities of available formal tools. We apply the method on two different systems, one concerns transferring data from senders to receivers through FIFO unit, the other is controlcommand system of a train passengers’ access.
