Typical Elements of Brahms's Choral Style as Found in the German Requiem

Clemons, Ouida 06 1900 (has links)
An unusual opportunity to hear and perform this work has been afforded at North Texas State Teachers College by the presentation of the German Requiem in the summer of 1941. Furthermore, a Brahms Festival, including another presentation of the Requiem along with outstanding compositions of Brahms in other media, is to be given during commencement week of June, 1942. Not only does this type of emphasis promote interest among students and faculty, but it also serves as a stimulus to detailed study of the German Requiem, thus intensifying the immediate importance and personal significance of the subject.

Richard Heuberger's Erinnerungen an Johannes Brahms : the life, work and times of Johannes Brahms as revealed by a contemporary / Life, work, and times of Johannes Brahms as revealed by a contemporary

Hughes, Holly Elaine January 1987 (has links)
In 1885, Austrian musician Richard Heuberger, recognizing the lasting importance of his friend and colleague, Johannes Brahms, began to record meticulously each of their meetings and conversations in the form of a journal. It was not until 1971, however, that the complete journal appeared in the original German language, with commentary by editor Kurt Hofmann (Erinnerunqen an Johannes Brahms, published in Tutzing, Germany, by Hans Schneider Verlag). All indiscreet and possibly harmful remarks by Brahms, which had been omitted from earlier versions, are found in this later edition with scarcely a variation from Heuberger's manuscript. This dissertation concerns information on Brahms as revealed through Heuberger's journal. The friendship between Brahms and Heuberger, which lasted until the death of the former, is a more important relationship than musicologists have previously thought. The two men spent long hours in discussing music, musicians and other contemporaries. As a man twenty-seven years Brahms's junior, Heuberger naturally sought advice in many matters, particularly regarding composition. Heuberger reveals many new insights into Brahms as a composer, performer and conductor.Brahms openly discussed many other artists, both past and present, and thanks to the care with which Heuberger recorded these comments, we have a clear picture of Brahms's inner feelings and opinions on the musical practice of his day. Brahms's regard for the genius of Richard Wagner and his ready praise of the composer's operas shed new light on the Wagner/Brahms controversy. Among the many other musicians discussed are Bach, Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven, von Bulow, d'Albert, Dvofdk and Johann Strauss. Heuberger reports, for example, that Brahms was so fond of Strauss's music that he attended every possible premiere. In addition, Brahms's enthusiasm for artists such as Anselm Feuerbach and Max Klinger was also a frequent topic of conversation between Brahms and Heuberger. This dissertation explores the many avenues of research provided by an enlightening and entertaining journal, and these include Brahms's musical philosophy, his dabbling in musical politics, his personal characteristics, and his philanthropic nature. In short, this is a study of the personal Johannes Brahms as viewed by his friend and colleague, Richard Heuberger.

Performance and analysis of Brahms quintet op. 115 for clarinet and string quartet : Searching for a deeper interpretation

Rubio Carrion, Maria January 2021 (has links)
In this thesis, I have studied the composer Johannes Brahms. I have talked about the background and history of his Quintet in B minor for clarinet and string quartet and I have then analyzed the piece. The purpose of this thesis is to find lesser known but significant information about Brahms to help other clarinetists when they have to perform this important piece of clarinet repertoire. Moreover, my artistic questions are if one piece can change your perception or your way to play it after doing a deep analysis and if the interpretation is in a way stronger than before. I decided to analyze this piece due to my interest in Brahms and to learn more about the expressive qualities in his music. I wanted to know more about the composer and so I chose this Quintet, because it is a challenging piece to play and is often performed.  From the quintet, I concentrated specifically on the possibilities of performing it and I tried to search for a way to have a deeper understanding of Brahms to produce the most convincing artistic performance of the piece.  After I learnt more about the background of this piece it resulted in a stronger interpretation of his quintet.

Violinistens kroppsspråk : Reflektioner kring kroppsspråk genom Brahms violinsonat i G-dur

Somersalo, Antonia January 2023 (has links)
<p>Lyle Mays: Somewhere in Maine for violin, marimba and tape </p><p></p><p>Johannes Brahms: Violinsonat nr 1, G-dur op. 78 </p><p>I. Johannes Brahms opus 108

Norlöv, Matilda January 2015 (has links)

A Coverage Metric to Aid in Testing Multi-Agent Systems

Linn, Jane Ostergar 01 December 2017 (has links)
Models are frequently used to represent complex systems in order to test the systems before they are deployed. Some of the most complicated models are those that represent multi-agent systems (MAS), where there are multiple decision makers. Brahms is an agent-oriented language that models MAS. Three major qualities affect the behavior of these MAS models: workframes that change the state of the system, communication activities that coordinate information between agents, and the schedule of workframes. The primary method to test these models that exists is repeated simulation. Simulation is useful insofar as interesting test cases are used that enable the simulation to explore different behaviors of the model, but simulation alone cannot be fully relied upon to adequately cover the test space, especially in the case of non-deterministic concurrent systems. It takes an exponential number of simulation trials to uncover schedules that reveal unexpected behaviors. This thesis defines a coverage metric to make simulation more meaningful before verification of the model. The coverage metric is divided into three different metrics: workframe coverage, communication coverage, and schedule coverage. Each coverage metric is defined through static analysis of the system, resulting in the coverage requirements of that system. These coverage requirements are compared to the logged output of the simulation run to calculate the coverage of the system. The use of the coverage metric is illustrated in several empirical studies and explored in a detailed case study of the SATS concept (Small Aircraft Transportation System). SATS outlines the procedures aircraft follow around runways that do not have communication towers. The coverage metric quantifies the test effort, and can be used as a basis for future automated test generation and active test.
