AODV-Based Backup Routing Scheme in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks

Huang, Sheng-yu 01 February 2010 (has links)
As effective routing is critical in mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs), the Ad Hoc On-demand Distance Vector (AODV) has been extensively studied in recent years. AODV is a single path routing protocol that requires a new route discovery procedure whenever a link breaks, such frequent route discoveries incur a high routing overhead and increase end-to-end delay. Therefore, by modifying the AODV protocol, this work presents a novel backup routing scheme capable of repairing disrupted links locally without activating a route re-discovery procedure. Additionally, backup paths are established based on 2-hop neighbor knowledge. These backup paths are geographically close to the primary path in order to provide efficient recovery from route failure and maintain an adequate routing length. Simulation results indicate that the proposed backup routing scheme obtains a lower average end-to-end delay and less routing overhead than those of the Ad hoc On-demand Multipath Distance Vector (AOMDV) and the conventional AODV.

Kaveti, Akash January 2015 (has links)
Context: Definitive information is what makes enterprises in the contemporary world continuously move up the ladder in today’s world. Hence they need to be always up to date with the latest advancements. A key point in the enterprise structure is Backup and Disaster Recovery, DR system and this has very high scope for development since it can be integrated with a lot of our daily requirements. On account of this, it has a lot of applicability in future for development of technology. Due to this, we have chosen a Fast Moving Consumer Goods Company, FMCG to conduct experimentation on their Backup and DR system. Objectives: In every organization, Backup and DR plays a crucial role in Business Continuity Planning. This work relates to associate backup and recovery plan with an organizational view. And thereby work on its association with Recovery Time Objective, Recovery Point Objective, time taken for backup, time take for recovery and Total Cost of Ownership. Methods: Literature study is the first step to understand present scenario of trending technologies. Hence our understanding led us to conduct an experimental setup where we compared data that was collected in a case study and evaluated its performance of Backup and DR problems that are faced in today’s technology dominated world. Results: In our research, we took various parameters into consideration, which affect performance of an enterprise Backup and DR system. This drove us to assess disk-based and cloud-based Backup and DR plans in the FMCG environment. Conclusions: In conclusion, we summate that even though there have been a lot of theories and research on how Backup and DR is vital, we still lag behind in research work on which the organizations can rely upon to shift towards advanced technologies without risking their competence. With sufficient research on the entrepreneurial environment, we can improve performance enterprises and improve our present knowledge about cloud Backup and DR thereby improving its conventional usage in the present world.

Enhancing Existing Disaster Recovery Plans Using Backup Performance Indicators

White, Gwen 01 January 2017 (has links)
Companies that perform data backup lose valuable data because they lack reliable data backup or restoration methods. The purpose of this study was to examine the need for a Six Sigma data backup performance indicator tool that clarifies the current state of a data backup method using an intuitive numerical scale. The theoretical framework for the study included backup theory, disaster recovery theory, and Six Sigma theory. The independent variables were implementation of data backup, data backup quality, and data backup confidence. The dependent variable was the need for a data backup performance indicator. An adapted survey instrument that measured an organization's data backup plan, originally administered by Information Week, was used to survey 107 businesses with 15 to 250 employees in the Greater Cincinnati area. The results revealed that 69 out of 107 small businesses did not need a data backup performance indicator and the binary logistic regression model indicated no significant relationship between the dependent and independent variables. The conclusion of the study is that many small businesses have not experienced a disaster and cannot see the importance of a data backup indicator that quantifies recovery potential in case of a disaster. It is recommended that further research is required to determine if this phenomenon is only applicable only to small businesses in the Greater Cincinnati area through comparisons based on business size and location. This study contributes to positive social change through improvement of data backup, which enables organizations to quickly recover from a disaster, thereby saving jobs and contributing to the stability of city, state, and national economies.

Implementing a Backup-Scheme with the 3-2-1 Strategy : A Comparison of the Active Solution with a New Implemented 3-2-1 Backup-Scheme

Magnusson, Fredrik January 2018 (has links)
This report handles the theory behind probability, backups and hard drives. Based on this, a backup-scheme is implemented with the help of NASes, to replace the current solution. The need for a more secure, more reliable and a solution that is expandable due to the quick growth of the company, was put forward together with a budget to provide a solution suited after the effective need. This scheme is based upon theory in combination with third-party results and for this specific case has the budget, provided by the company, as a starting point to accomplish a sustainable, expandable and automated backup. Furthermore, this report implements this solution into the existing infrastructure where automation and simple handling of backups and why a 3-2-1 solution will be used. The report finds that after the new solution is implemented there is significantly less risk of data failure as well as an overall increase in speed and automation. Finally, with the help of standardized tools this report lay a decent groundwork for others to use in their implementation or to dig deeper into the world of reliability.

In the last years, the amount of data generated by individuals and organizations has grown exponentially. It is estimated that there were 2.7 zettabytes of global data in 2012, and this number has doubled each two years. In addition to this, with the popularization of mobile connected devices, the user’s need to have ubiquous access has grown. Traditional solutions for backup and online file storage can no longer meet the current needs. The use of cloud storage for backup and file synchronization becomes a tool of great value to this kind of problem. However, implementing such a system becomes a significant technological challenge. Thus, this works proposes to solve the problem of storing files, designing a Cloud Storage architecture for storing archives. Throughout work, an analysis of the key business drivers for Cloud Storage and File storage is done by lifting inputs for designing an architecture. This architecture is described in detail for level that can be implemented. Finally, the work is validated through an evaluation of architecture whose methodology was adapted according to the characteristics of the evaluation team.

Metodika návrhu optimálního způsobu zálohování velkých objemů dat / A guide to designing optimal method of backup for big volumes of data

Bartoňová, Veronika January 2012 (has links)
This diploma thesis deals with backup for big volumes of data. Data backup is a overlooked area of information technology and the data can be lost by trivial user error or breakdown on any components. In this thesis is discussed theory of backup - archive bit and his behavior based on various type of backup (full, incremental, differential or combination thereof), duration and frequency of backups or the point of ultimate recovery. In addition there are mentioned rotation schemes Round-Robin, GFS and Tower of Hanoi, where are described their principles and graphic diagram of rotation. In chapter Strategy of backup describes the backup strategy via choosing the right choice, taking into technical and economic parameters. Impact analysis, which is explained also in this chapter, describes the important moments in data recovery. For select the optimal strategy is necessary to consider not only the whole capacity of the backup data, but also the size of the backup window for data storage or storage location. In chapter Media storage you can acquainted with all backup media and their technical parameters that are available on the market and can be used for data backup. In section Guide methodology of large volumes of data backup is designed a backup plan with the necessary inputs for the actual implementation of the backup. The design methodology puts emphasis on regular backups and check their location. On practical demonstration is shown that the rotation scheme Tower of Hanoi are among the smallest need for backup media. A part of this thesis is also design of methodology for backup small amounts of data.
