Education in this city has been calling atention for showing an evolution of the avaliation indicators as well as for performing specific continued formation for beginner teachers in municipal education. This work intended to analyse the process of implementation of the politics of continued formation in Sobral, and also to evaluate its contributions to the professional development of beginner teachers. It was chosen the qualitative approach of research, wich considers the perspective of the subjects, the context in wich they operate and the meanings they assign to their experiences. For that, it were used different research procedures and instruments, such as: semi-structured interview and focal group, document analysis and questionnaires in the attempt to embrace, in the various fields and with the involved actors, all of the continued formation process. The subjects were, in the Education Secretary, the educational superintendent and the coordinator of mastership appreciation; in the School of Formation of teachers, the principal, the coordinator of formation and 11 former teachers; and 45 beginner teachers that evaluated the formation offered by the municipal sector. During the making of this work, it were unveiled actions that were articulated to form an educational system in the municipal sector that also adopts meritocracy and results policy as reference to reward schools and its teams. The continued formation assumes such great importance that a School of Permanent Formation was created, because it is understood that formation is important and education is permanent, all of the involved: principals, coordinators and teachers, go through formation in exercise and cocharge each other for the results of the students learning. The results have pointed to the professional development of all instances involved in the process of continued formation / O objetivo desta pesquisa foi analisar a política de formação continuada no município de Sobral/CE. A educação neste município tem chamado a atenção tanto por apresentar evolução nos indicadores de avaliação quanto por realizar formação continuada específica aos professores iniciantes na rede municipal. Pretendeu-se com este trabalho analisar o processo de implementação da política de formação continuada em Sobral, bem como, avaliar as contribuições da formação continuada para o desenvolvimento profissional dos professores iniciantes. Foi adotada a abordagem qualitativa de pesquisa que considera a perspectiva dos sujeitos, o contexto em que atuam e os significados que atribui às suas experiências.. Para tanto, foram utilizados diferentes procedimentos e instrumentos de pesquisa, tais como: entrevista semi-estruturada e grupo focal, análise de documento e questionário na tentativa de captar, nos diversos campos e com os atores envolvidos, todo o processo de formação continuada. Teve como sujeitos, na Secretaria de Educação a superintendente educacional e a coordenadora de valorização do magistério; na Escola de Formação de professores a diretora, a coordenadora de formação e 11 professores formadores; e, 45 professores iniciantes que avaliaram a formação oferecida pela rede municipal. Ao longo deste trabalho foram sendo descortinadas as ações que se articularam para a formação de um sistema educacional na rede municipal que também adota a meritocracia e a política de resultados como referência para a premiação das escolas e suas equipes. A formação continuada assume grande importância, a ponto de ser criada uma Escola de Formação Permanente, por entenderem que a formação é importante e a educação é permanente, todos os envolvidos: diretores, coordenadores e professores passam por formação em exercício e se corresponsabilizam pelos resultados da aprendizagem dos alunos. Os resultados apontaram para o desenvolvimento profissional de todas as instâncias envolvidas no processo de formação continuada

The scientific production about higher education teachers has been characterized by a few and isolates studies. The formation of this professional is one of the most important elements for the quality of the higher education, therefore, we understand that it is pertinent to take a close look at the history and legislation of higher education, the required qualities that this professor must have, the professionalism and the teacher s development in the beginning of this professional career. The goal of the study was to analyze how these teaching professionals live the beginning of their teaching in a confessional university center. The thesis is that the analyses of the reality lived by the professors in the beginning of their careers is able to propose initiatives of supporting the new teacher in higher education. Theoric framework were taken from Huberman (1992) who characterizes the 5 first years of teaching as a period of surviving and discovery; Marcelo Garcia (1999), Zabalza (1994), Cunha (2012), Andre (2012), Anastasion (2014), Vaillant (2014), Roldão (2006) among others, who study the formation, insertion and professionality of teachers and support this study. It was used the qualitative approach of research, beginning of the understanding that the professors, in the beginning of their teaching need to have a support and monitoring because the first years of professional work are permeated by many challenging situations that interfere significantly in their professional status. The semi-structured interview and the documental analysis were used as a methodological procedure. Themes were established in data analyzes which follows: who is the beginner professor, challenges and difficulties in the beginning of the career, the formative necessities of the beginner professor of higher education and how the institutional environment influences the teaching. Results indicated that the beginner higher education professor is responsible for his own insertion to find the way to adapt and survive his professional reality. The field of knowledge that the professor is going to teach and the necessity to impose the authority through the profession are the main concerns identified in the beginning of teaching. One of the characteristics from the institutional environment, the beginning professors demonstrated the desire to be part of and fit to the context of the institution. The organizational environment prevails in the professor s routine and produces a feeling of belonging to the institution. The beginner professors face the academic competition and they complain about the lack of time of living that enable exchanges and dialogues. It is necessary to rethink spaces to the teaching construction for shared teaching knowledge. The results led us to some notes for the elaboration of support proposes to the beginner professional / Esse estudo é resultado da inquietação de uma professora universitária que após vários anos de docência universitária propõe um pensar reflexivo acerca da iniciação dos professores na Educação Superior. A produção científica sobre o professor da Educação Superior tem se caracterizado por poucos e isolados estudos. A formação do docente para esse segmento constitui-se um dos elementos fundamentais para a qualidade da Educação Superior, portanto, entendemos que é pertinente um olhar minucioso sobre a trajetória e legislação da Educação Superior, as qualidades necessárias ao professor da Educação Superior, a profissionalidade e o desenvolvimento docente no inicio da carreira profissional. Objetivou-se analisar como os profissionais docentes vivenciam o inicio da docência em um centro universitário confessional. A tese contida é que a análise da realidade enfrentada pelos docentes no início de carreira possibilita propor iniciativas de apoio ao docente iniciante da Educação Superior. Os referenciais teóricos foram buscados em Huberman (1992) que caracteriza os cinco primeiros anos de docência como um período de sobrevivência e descoberta; Marcelo Garcia (1999), Zabalza (1994), Cunha(2010) Ruiz (2008), Dotta (2010), Vaillant (2012), André (2012), Anastasiou (2014), Pimenta (2014), Roldão (2006) entre outros, que estudam formação, inserção e profissionalidade de professores e sustentam esse estudo. Foi utilizada a abordagem qualitativa de pesquisa, partindo-se do entendimento de que os professores, ao iniciarem a docência, precisam do apoio e acompanhamento pois os primeiros anos de atuação profissional são permeados por muitos desafios e as situações pelas quais os professores passam nesse período interferem significativamente na sua constituição profissional. A entrevista semiestruturada e a análise documental foram utilizadas como procedimentos metodológicos. Foram estabelecidos eixos temáticos na análise dos dados, os quais abordaram: quem é o docente iniciante, desafios e dificuldades do inicio de carreira, as necessidades formativas do docente iniciante da Educação Superior e como o ambiente institucional influencia a constituição docente. Os resultados acusaram que o docente iniciante da Educação Superior é responsável pela sua inserção, é ele que tem que encontrar a maneira de adaptar-se e sobreviver a sua realidade profissional. O domínio dos conhecimentos que o docente vai ensinar e a necessidade de impor a autoridade através do papel que exerce são as principais preocupações identificadas no início da docência. Sobre as especificidades do ambiente institucional, os professores iniciantes demonstraram o desejo de fazer parte e se adequar ao contexto da instituição. O clima organizacional prevalece na rotina dos professores e produz, nos mesmos, sentimentos de pertencer. Os professores iniciantes entrevistados enfrentam o desafio de ser reconhecidos e legitimados pelos pares; se deparam com a competição acadêmica e reclamam da falta de tempo e de convívio que permitam trocas e diálogos. É necessário repensar espaços para construção conjunta da docência para viabilizar a elaboração do conhecimento docente compartilhado. Os resultados nos levaram a alguns apontamentos para elaboração de uma proposta de apoio ao docente iniciante

This program have a purpose of teachers professional development based on sharing experiences on everyday school life. An investigation was developed with a qualitative approach and used two methodological procedures: semi-structured interview with the coordinator of the program and with four early childhood education teachers from São Caetano do Sul (SP) program participants and analysis of program documents to identify the concepts, methodology and information of implementation to this program inside the city. The theoretical source is supported by the contributions of Imbernón (2010), Marcelo García and Vaillant (2011), Tardif (2010), Gatti (2013), Lima (2006), Campos (2002), Kishimoto (2002) Oliveira (2002). In this research, the coordinator and the teachers showed evidences of reflections about the successes and difficulties encountered in their practices at the beginning of the teaching career. It was found that the Program Mesa Educadora for Early Childhood enables the professional development of teachers, supporting them to overcome the deficiencies of their initial formation. It is confirmed that the coordinator of the program make a fundamental role in the process of breaking barriers and professional development / Esta pesquisa teve como objetivo investigar a visão de professores iniciantes acerca das contribuições que o Programa Mesa Educadora para a Primeira Infância trouxe para o aprimoramento das práticas em sala de aula e, especificamente em relação ao ensino da Matemática. O Programa visa ao desenvolvimento profissional dos docentes a partir do compartilhamento das suas experiências do cotidiano escolar. A investigação realizada é de abordagem qualitativa e utilizou dois procedimentos metodológicos: a entrevista semiestruturada com a coordenadora do Programa e com quatro professoras da Educação Infantil da rede municipal de São Caetano do Sul (SP) participantes do Programa e a análise dos documentos do Programa para identificação das concepções, da metodologia e das informações sobre a sua implementação. A fundamentação teórica está apoiada, principalmente, nas contribuições de Imbernón (2010), Marcelo García e Vaillant (2011), Tardif (2010), Gatti (2013), Lima (2006), Campos (2002), Kishimoto (2002), Oliveira (2002). Nesta pesquisa, a coordenadora e as professoras evidenciam reflexões acerca dos êxitos e das dificuldades que encontraram com suas práticas no início da carreira docente. Pesquisa do Estado da Bahia - FAPEB / The aim of the research was to examine the pedagogic necessities of beginner teachers of the State University of Feira de Santana (henceforth UEFS, from Universidade Estadual de Feira de Santana) in order to provide professional teaching development. The research question was: what necessities (in relation to pedagogic formation) do the beginner teachers from UEFS point out? A theoretical framework deals with the teaching education, pedagogic knowledge and practice, and also with the concepts of formative necessities and professional teaching development in higher education such as: Cunha (2004), Ribeiro (2012; 2010; 2004), Pimenta (2008; 2006), Grillo (2008), Masetto (2012) among others. The locus of the research was UEFS and the subjects were 49 teachers with the minimum of 5 years working as teachers in the university. The collection and production of data was made by a questionnaire with open and closed questions. For the analysis of the closed ones it was used a statistic program called SPSS 20. For open questions it was used the analysis of content (BARDIN, 2009). The analysis of the data collected from closed questions did not reveal any expressive necessities in regard to pedagogic practice, however, the data from open questions revealed different kinds of formative necessities such as: teaching planning, classroom management, learning assessment, students? cognitive difficulties and new information and communication technologies. The results highlight the necessity of systematic institutional actions concerning to the pedagogic formation of teachers, and also keeping the autonomy, protagonist role of the teacher and the continuity of the formation. Therefore, it is recommended the construction of an institutional policy whose focus is the professional teaching development. / A pesquisa teve como objetivo examinar as necessidades formativas de professores iniciantes da UEFS, no campo pedag?gico, com vistas ao desenvolvimento profissional docente. Buscou responder ? seguinte quest?o: Que necessidades os docentes iniciantes da UEFS apontam em rela??o ? sua forma??o pedag?gica? O quadro te?rico versa sobre a doc?ncia, saberes e pr?tica pedag?gica, bem como os conceitos de necessidades formativas e desenvolvimento profissional do docente do ensino superior, referendando-se em estudos e pesquisas no campo da pedagogia universit?ria como: Cunha (2004), Ribeiro (2012; 2010; 2004), Pimenta (2008; 2006), Grillo (2008), Masetto (2012), entre outros. O l?cus, a UEFS e os sujeitos colaboradores foram 49 docentes, com at? cinco anos de trajet?ria profissional na referida institui??o. O instrumento de coleta e produ??o de dados, o question?rio, compreendia quest?es fechadas e abertas. Para a an?lise das quest?es fechadas, foi utilizado o programa estat?stico SPSS, vers?o 20; na parte subjetiva do question?rio, foi utilizada a an?lise de conte?do (BARDIN, 2009). Se, por um lado, os dados das quest?es objetivas do question?rio n?o apontaram, com expressividade, necessidades formativas no campo das pr?ticas pedag?gicas do coletivo alvo da investiga??o, por outro, nas quest?es subjetivas, emergiram necessidades formativas de diferentes naturezas, a saber: quanto ao planejamento de ensino; quanto ? avalia??o da aprendizagem; quanto aos problemas da gest?o da sala de aula; quanto a lidar com as car?ncias cognitivas dos alunos e o trabalho e, por fim, quanto ?s novas tecnologias da informa??o e da comunica??o. Os achados sinalizam a necessidade de a??es sistem?ticas e institucionais, no que tange ? forma??o pedag?gica dos docentes, sem perder de vista a autonomia, o protagonismo, bem como o cont?nuo de demandas da forma??o. Nessa perspectiva, recomenda-se, a formula??o e efetiva??o de uma pol?tica institucional visando o desenvolvimento profissional docente.

Os processos de socialização e a formação da identidade profissional docente: o caso dos professores de ciências em início de carreira / The processes of socialization and training of the teaching professional identity: the case of science teachers beginning their careers

O presente trabalho busca compreender como os processos de socialização contribuem para a formação das identidades profissionais docentes dos professores de Ciências egressos do curso de Licenciatura em Ciências da Natureza da Escola de Artes, Ciências e Humanidades da Universidade de São Paulo EACH/USP. O principal referencial teórico que sustenta a pesquisa é constituído por Claude Dubar, que conceitua e fundamenta a construção das identidades sociais e profissionais. Além disso, o trabalho faz uma abordagem sobre a questão das identidades sob a perspectiva dos Estudos Culturais e das discussões suscitadas por alguns de seus teóricos como Stuart Hall e Néstor García Canclini. Para responder a pergunta de pesquisa, foram realizadas entrevistas semiestruturadas com professores de Ciências iniciantes, egressos do curso de Licenciatura em Ciências da Natureza da Escola de Artes, Ciências e Humanidades da Universidade de São Paulo. No que confere à análise dos dados utilizou-se uma metodologia qualitativo-interpretativa de pesquisa tendo como principal referencial metodológico as contribuições da História Oral e da Análise de Narrativas. Os resultados mostram que a construção das identidades profissionais docentes é um processo permeado por uma ampla teia de identidades herdadas e visadas e por tensões e rupturas entre os grupos de referência de origem e os grupos nos quais os professores pretendem se inserir em sua vida profissional. Na escolha pela profissão, parece haver um predomínio de identidades herdadas de gerações anteriores, e uma ruptura com o grupo de origem, enquanto que para permanecer no curso e na profissão docente, os professores utilizam algumas estratégias identitárias vinculadas com o reconhecimento desse grupo de origem. Os estágios obrigatórios parecem ter sido um elemento crucial na hora de decidir pela permanência na profissão docente. Quanto à inserção no mercado de trabalho, parece haver tensões entre os professores novos e sua cultura, por um lado, e os professores mais antigos e a cultura institucional, pelo outro. Os resultados nos conduzem a pensar que, nos processos de formação docente é importante incluir oportunidades de reflexão e de trabalho sobre os processos de socialização, para que o início na carreira e a permanência se tornem o menos problemático possível / This study aims to understand how the socialization processes influence on the construction of professional identities of science teachers who have studied the Natural Sciences Teaching Major at School of Arts, Sciences and Humanities of the University of São Paulo - EACH / USP. The main theoretical framework that supports the research is the socialization theory of Claude Dubar, who conceptualized the construction of social and professional identities starting from socialization processes. Moreover, the work is an approach to the issue of identity from the perspective of Cultural Studies and discussions raised by some of its theoreticians such as Stuart Hall. To answer the research question, semi-structured interviews with beginners Science teachers which have studied the Natural Science Teaching Major at EACH-USP were conducted. Regarding to the data analysis, it was used a qualitative-interpretive research methodology, being the narrative analysis the main methodological approach. The results show that the construction of professional teachers\' identities is a permeate process by a wide web of inherited and target identities and tensions and ruptures between the source reference groups and groups in which teachers plan to insert into your professional life. In choosing the profession, seems to be a predominance of inherited from previous generations identities, and a break from the original group, while to stay the course and the teaching profession, teachers use some identity strategies linked with the recognition of this source group. Required stages appear to have been a crucial factor in deciding the stay in the teaching profession. As for the inclusion in the labor market, there seems to be tension between new teachers and their culture, on the one hand, and the older teachers and the institutional culture, on the other. The results lead us to think that the teacher training process is important to include opportunities for reflection and work on the processes of socialization, so that the early career to become the least problematic possible

Suas inquietações e anseios no início da carreira são gerados, na maioria das vezes, pelas fragilidades da formação inicial que nem sempre tem como foco a atuação em sala de aula a partir da articulação teoria e prática. As preocupações com o processo inicial de trabalho do professor em início de carreira e a constituição de sua identidade profissional são focos específicos do presente estudo. O objetivo principal é investigar a situação profissional de professores iniciantes que se graduaram há, no máximo, cinco anos, enquanto pedagogos atuantes em sala de aula, no que concerne a relação entre a formação inicial desses professores e o processo de constituição de suas identidades como docentes. Como base teórica foram adotados, principalmente, os estudos realizados por Dubar, Marcelo García, Hubberman e Gatti. Trata-se de uma pesquisa qualitativa cuja metodologia constituiu-se pela aplicação de questionários aplicados a egressos do curso de Pedagogia/UNESP-Bauru, numa primeira etapa, e, posteriormente, pela realização de entrevistas semiestruturadas com seis professores dos anos iniciais e da Educação Infantil. Como principais resultados constatou-se que a formação inicial é reconhecida, pelos docentes entrevistados, como fundamental para a preparação e exercício da docência, contudo, esta possui limites, considerando os saberes da profissão que são desenvolvidos durante a atuação profissional do docente em sala de aula, especialmente nos anos iniciais de trabalho. Para a maioria dos sujeitos entrevistados houve desafios a serem superados ao adentrarem o ambiente escolar, mas também ocorreram significativas aprendizagens no que concerne às trocas de experiências com professores experientes e com os sujeitos responsáveis pela gestão. Constatou-se, sobretudo, que as formas de identificação com a docência são formuladas desde muito cedo e que a identidade profissional docente se constrói em um processo instável e infindável, sendo influenciado pelas experiências de formação e de atuação profissional. Assim, foi possível concluir que o tema da identidade profissional docente necessita ser consolidado como campo de investigação educacional, uma vez que está diretamente relacionado a atuação do professor em sala de aula e, consequentemente, à educação como um todo. / The polyvalent teacher who act in the early years of Elementary School and Childhood Education, before to be considered how experienced, has a long way over of his time in teaching. The concerns and yearning from early in his career are engendered mostly by weakness of the initial training that not always focused the teacher practice in classroom. The concerns with this initial process of teachers work is point of this study whose main goal investigate the professional situation of beginning teachers who graduated there are, at most, five years, how pedagogues acting in classroom about the relation between initial formation and the constitution process of yours identities how teachers. As a theoretical basis were adopted mainly the studies of Dubar, Marcelo García, Hubberman e Gatti. Is a qualitative research whose metodology is constituted by the aplication of questionnaires and realization of semi-structured interviews with six teachers of early years of Elementary School and Childhood Education graduates of the course of Pedagogy/UNESP-Bauru. As main results of the search it was found that the beginning teachers recognized initial training as fundamental to the preparation for the exercise of teaching, however, it have limits, considering the knowledge of the profession that is developed during the professional acting in classroom. Other interesting data fact is that to the processes founded by beginners when entering school environment. For the majority of respondents there was challenges to be overcome, but also occurred significant learning with regard to exchanges of experience with experienced teachers and with the management team. It was found above all, that the identification forms with teaching are formulated very early and that professional teacher identity is built in a unstable and endless process, influenced by experiences of formation and professional acting. O professor iniciante no Ensino Médio: um estudo a partir da profissionalidade docente / The beginner high school teacher: a study based on teacher professionalism.

Este estudo teve como objetivo compreender a inserção e a permanência dos professores iniciantes, atuantes em áreas do currículo do Ensino Médio, em quatro escolas estaduais localizadas em Ribeirão Preto, por um período de até três anos. É durante os primeiros anos de docência que os professores constroem sua profissionalidade, isto é, adquirem um repertório de conhecimentos, saberes e fazeres voltados para o exercício da docência. Pesquisas sobre o professor iniciante revelam que são muitos os problemas enfrentados no início de carreira: dificuldade com a indisciplina de alunos, falta de material didático, insegurança com a metodologia. No Ensino Médio as condições são mais precárias, pois, além dessas dificuldades apontadas, exige-se do professor a disponibilidade para atribuição de aulas em diversas turmas e em diferentes escolas para composição de sua carga horária. O aparato teórico que sustenta este trabalho engloba os referenciais de investigação sobre formação de professores como André (2012), Gatti e Barreto (2009), Nóvoa (2009), Vaillant e Marcelo (2012), entre outros. O estudo foi desenvolvido por meio de uma pesquisa qualitativa de natureza exploratória e os dados foram analisados a partir da Análise de Conteúdo. O corpus é constituído por entrevistas semiestruturadas realizadas com oito docentes iniciantes, concursados e atuantes nas áreas do currículo do Ensino Médio, em quatro escolas da Rede Estadual de Ensino de Ribeirão Preto/SP. A partir das análises realizadas, constatou-se: a) que a inserção de alguns professores na carreira foi contemplada por iniciativas de apoio da direção da escola, ou por meio dos próprios professores que procuravam esclarecer suas dúvidas com seus pares; b) que os professores iniciantes possuem muitas dificuldades no início de carreira, sobretudo em relação à administração de tempo pessoal e profissional e com a organização do ensino, diante das condições de trabalho a que são submetidos; c) que os fatores de maior incidência apontados para permanência na profissão são: a relação estabelecida com os alunos e com os colegas de trabalho; o aprendizado dos educandos e o reconhecimento e a valorização desses profissionais pelos estudantes. É por meio do conhecimento histórico dos cursos de formação, das teorias educacionais, do contato com o dia a dia escolar, do relacionamento com colegas de profissão, alunos, pais, demais funcionários da instituição, que os professores iniciantes tornam-se conscientes e seguros de sua profissionalidade. Enfatiza-se a necessidade de uma política pública que ofereça condições adequadas para o desenvolvimento profissional dos professores iniciantes na carreira, acompanhando-os durante sua inserção na profissão. / The purpose of this study was to understand the insertion and permanence of beginning teachers in areas of the High School curriculum in four state schools located in Ribeirão Preto, for a period of up to three years. It is in the first years of teaching that teachers construct their professionalism, that is, they acquire a repertoire of knowledge, knowledge and practices aimed at the exercise of teaching. Research on the beginning teacher reveals that there are many problems faced at the beginning of the career: difficulty with the indiscipline of students, lack of teaching material, insecurity with methodology. In high school conditions are more precarious, because in addition to these difficulties pointed out, the teacher is required to be able to assign classes in different classes and in different schools to compose their workload. The theoretical framework that supports this work encompasses research references on teacher education such as André (2012), Gatti and Barreto (2009), Nóvoa (2009), Vaillant and Marcelo (2012), among others. The study was developed through a qualitative research of exploratory nature and the data were analyzed from the Content Analysis. The corpus consists of semi-structured interviews carried out with 8 beginning teachers, candidates and participants in the areas of the High School curriculum, in four schools of the Ribeirão Preto State Teaching Network. From the analyzes carried out, it was verified: a) that the insertion of some professors in the career was contemplated by initiatives of support of the direction of the school, or through the teachers themselves who tried to clarify their doubts with their peers; B) that beginning teachers have many difficulties at the beginning of their careers, especially in relation to the administration of personal and professional time and the organization of teaching, given the conditions of work that are submitted; C) that the factors of higher incidence pointed out to remain in the profession are: the established relationship with the students and with the work colleagues; The students\' learning and the recognition and appreciation of these professionals by the students. It is through the historical knowledge of training courses, educational theories, contact with the day-to-day school, the relationship with other colleagues in the profession, students, parents, other employees of the institution, that beginner teachers become aware and safe Of their professionalism. Emphasis is placed on the need for a public policy that provides adequate conditions for the professional development of early career teachers, accompanying them during their insertion in the profession.

Inadequate preparation and support are the causes that many beginner principals cannot meet the challenges. The beginner school principal has to cope with the diversity in schools, socio-economic differences, language and discipline problems as well as departmental issues. Too many learners in a class, over-aged learners still at school and a lack of resources are part of the challenges of the beginner school principal. This study focused on the type of support beginner principals require, their opinions regarding mentorship as supportive tool, and their views on the characteristics and qualities of an effective mentorship programme. As a result of the interviews, beginner school principals admit that an academic qualification is not enough to support them. Furthermore they also claim that the support from the Department of Basic Education is inadequate. An experienced or even a retired principal as mentor will address the demands and challenges in an on-going nature and will be more suited to support them. Therefore the main question will be: How will effective mentorship support beginner school principals? A qualitative research approach within an interpretivistic paradigm was followed during the investigation. By applying purposive sampling, ten principals from different cultural and racial background were identified as participants. Data was collected from principals by means of individual interviews and two observations per principal. The discourse analysis that followed indicated that beginner principals find areas such as management skills, legal issues, human relations, communication and departmental instructions, the most difficult areas to manage. What emerged and came to the fore was a need for a mentor to support them in specific areas. This dissertation is based on a theoretical and empirical synthesis. It offers a theoretical discussion of the burnout syndrome and its influences on surroundings, while the empirical part is performed through questionnaire research, where 69 respondents took part mainly from the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice. The primary aim of this investigation is to illuminate attitudes of students regarding their readiness to face the burnout syndrome in school conditions and to collect information in regards to their reaction to this situation. The evaluated data, gained through the use of open questions, is represented in the charts. It investigates the advantages and disadvantages that the students feel before the start of their career and which can affect their career growth; or their way to failure. It is apparent from the results that the theoretical knowledge of the problematic issues are on a very good level. Most students believe, that they are well aware of what the burnout syndrome is about and that in case of it happening, they would know how to deal with it and where to look for help.
