Mesmo assim, há ainda uma vertente desse autor a ser estudada: o Millôr tradutor. O nosso objetivo nesta dissertação é analisar a peça Pygmalion, escrita por George Bernard Shaw em 1913, e sua tradução para o português pelo autor-tradutor Millôr Fernandes em 1963. A peça em cinco atos trata do professor de fonética Henry Higgins que se prontifica a transformar Eliza Doolittle, uma vendedora de flores que fala o dialeto cockney, em uma verdadeira dama, ensinando-a a falar “corretamente”. O que nos chama a atenção nesta obra de Shaw é o dialeto cockney e as muitas expressões que encontramos no decorrer da peça. A nossa intenção é, portanto, mostrar as soluções encontradas por Millôr ao traduzir Pygmalion. No primeiro capítulo, temos um panorama geral do gênero teatral, da tradução em si e posteriormente a história da tradução de teatro, assunto pouco explorado até hoje pelos teóricos e que nos é importante para que possamos ter uma visão geral da linha que cada um destes teóricos seguem. No segundo capítulo exploramos um pouco acerca do autor da peça, George Bernard Shaw, mostrando suas obras, sua vida e suas características principais, além de termos uma análise da peça com o objetivo de que os leitores possam entender quais são os pontos principais da obra e sua idéia central. O terceiro capítulo é o que nomeia esta dissertação, pois é onde analisamos a tradução para o português de Pygmalion, mostrando quais foram as maiores dificuldades encontradas por Millôr, chamado por nós de autor-tradutor, e as soluções apresentadas por ele para resolver o problema da... / The works by one of the most known Brazilian humorists, Millôr Fernandes, have already been explored by many researchers in general. However there is still an aspect of this author to be studied: Millôr as a translator. Our main objective in this dissertation is to analyze the work Pygmalion written by George Bernard Shaw in 1913 and translated to Portuguese by the author-translator Millôr Fernandes in 1963. The play is divided in five acts and deals with the phonetics professor, Henry Higgins, who is in charge of transforming Eliza Doolittle, a flower saleswoman who speaks cockney dialect, in a truthful lady, teaching her how to speak English properly. What draws our attention in Shaw’s work is the cockney dialect and the plenty of expressions that we can find in the play. Our main intention here is to show the difficulties and the solutions found out by Millôr during Pygmalion translation. In the first chapter we have a general panorama about the theatre genre, the translation itself and later about the history of the theatre translation, a subject that is not much explored by scholars and that is very important for us because we can have a general view of each tendency that these scholars follow. The second chapter explores a little bit about the play author, George Bernard Shaw, showing his works, his life and his main characteristics, besides having a play analysis to allow the readers a better understanding about the main points of the play and its central idea. Cette thèse porte sur la représentation du phénomène de l’hybridité dans la littérature autochtone du Québec. Ce travail s’intéresse particulièrement aux romans Le Bras coupé de Bernard Assiniwi, Nipishish de Michel Noël et Ourse bleue de Virginia Pésémapéo Bordeleau. À la lumière du concept d’hybridité proposé par Homi K. Bhabha, cette étude adopte une perspective sociocritique d’analyse du discours pour étudier la représentation de la langue et de l’identité dans ces récits de fiction. Dans un premier temps, pour l’étude de la langue sur le plan textuel, nous avons recours aux figures de style, à la narration, au plurilinguisme et à la dénomination. Par la suite, il sera question des identités personnelles et culturelles et des tensions qui y sont rattachées. Le choix de cette structure est basé sur le fait que ces éléments semblent être les facteurs principaux de la constance du phénomène de l’hybridation dans ces récits amérindiens.

Clinical Phenotype of Bernard Soulier Syndrome Case Resulting from Compound Heterozygous Inheritance

Background: Bernard Soulier Syndrome (BSS) is a rare, autosomal recessive inheritance disorder of platelet function. Estimated to affect one per one million, there are currently only 200 cases reported worldwide presenting more commonly in families with parental consanguinity. This syndrome occurs when there is a genetic defect in the subunits (GPIb-alpha, GPIB-beta, and GP9) that form the GPIb-IX-V complex. The result is inadequate binding to von Willebrand factor. The clotting cascade is, therefore, unable to begin, causing symptoms of excessive and prolonged bleeding. Objectives: We report a case with multiple episodes of exaggerated bleeding and easy bruising. Methods: We analyzed complete blood count, coagulation studies, platelet aggregation assays, platelet glycoprotein expression by flow cytometry, as well as screened both patient and parents for relevant genes responsible for BSS. Results: 14-month-old Caucasian male born at 38w3d gestational age, non-consanguineous parents with multiple episodes of exaggerated bleeding and easy bruising from minor injuries. His symptoms started early in life with excessive bleeding after circumcision. No history of intramuscular, joint, or intracranial bleeding. Complete blood counts showed macrothrombocytopenia (98 X109 /L MPV 12.3 fl) no leukocyte inclusion bodies on peripheral smear. Coagulation tests (prothrombin time, activated partial thromboplastin time, vWF antigen, and vW-Ristocetin cofactor activity, platelet function assay) were normal. Platelet glycoprotein expression by flow cytometry revealed significantly reduced binding of monoclonal antibodies to platelet GPIb and normal GPIIb/IIIa. Comprehensive platelet disorder panel revealed two clinically significant variants missense mutations in the GP9 gene (P.Cys135 Tyr and P.Asn61Ser) These variants were on opposite alleles and results were consistent with the diagnosis of Bernard Soulier syndrome (BSS). The mother reported heavy menstrual cycles, the father had no significant bleeding symptoms, and both parents had normal platelet counts. Target genetic testing identified these two distinct missense mutations from both Mother and Father of the child. Conclusion: The two rare variants occurring on the gene for GPIX (GP9) increase the number of known genetic defects associated with the manifestation of Bernard Soulier Syndrome.

Grace and Emergence: Towards an Ecological and Evolutionary Foundation for Theology

Lawrence / Taking as its mandate the expansive vision suggested by the integral ecology of Laudato Si’, in conjunction with the insights of contemporary ecological and evolutionary theologians, this dissertation proposes a framework for an integral, planetary, and cosmic theology of grace. It draws from and builds upon many of the insights of the leading Catholic contributors to ecological and evolutionary theologies, including especially John Haught, Elizabeth Johnson, Denis Edwards, and Celia Deane-Drummond. Through their various approaches, each emphasizes the created, cosmic effects of both the universal invisible mission of Holy Spirit and the visible mission of Christ’s Incarnation, intended from all eternity and culminating in his passion death and resurrection. Noting the strong resonances with traditional accounts of the economy of grace in human redemption, this dissertation seeks to provide a unitive account of God’s healing and elevation of all of creation through a creative and redemptive economy of grace. This project is also carried out in intentional dialogue with both with traditional understandings of grace, especially as articulated in the speculative and systematic synthesis of St. Thomas Aquinas, and with contemporary scientific understandings of world process. To facilitate this larger conversation, this dissertation also explores Bernard Lonergan’s transposition of grace, nature, and sin from the Medieval theoretical framework into a framework based on interiority, and it relies especially on Lonergan’s explanatory account of the dynamic orientation of nature as “upwardly but indeterminately directed,” as laid out in his generalized emergent probability. However, as Lonergan and his students have only attended to grace in relation to human contexts, the constructive part of this dissertation lays out an understanding of grace as “God’s created relationship of transformative love and care for all creatures that opens them up to ever deeper relationships with God and with each other.” This broad definition makes possible the identification of God’s grace throughout all of creation: humans, other animals, plants, and even “inanimate” matter are caught up in the networks of grace that bring them to greater perfection along three axes: According to their absolute finality, all creation may be observed as existing in a state of ontological praise of its Creator and Redeemer and in a state of eschatological expectation. According to their horizontal finality, each creature is empowered to realize its particular, fleshly excellences in line with its dynamically conceived nature, the account of which nature is described by the vast array of modern sciences. According to their vertical finality, each creature exists in networks of interconnection that undergird the possibility and, sometimes, the reality of surprising and irreducible inbreaking of renewal and emergence. At the same time, this framework also recognizes the elevation of human beings to not only these forms of relative supernaturality, but also to the absolute supernaturality of sanctifying grace and the habit of charity in which we are adopted into the intra-trinitarian life of friendship. By situating this theology of grace in relation to Lonergan’s transposition of nature in the form of his account of generalized emergent probability, the specifically theological character of this account of world process is both distinguished from and related to the other explanatory accounts offered by the whole range of the human, social, and natural sciences.
