Contudo, no contexto das bibliotecas constata-se a existência de poucas publicações acerca de sua função cultural. No Brasil, a lacuna de pesquisas sobre o tema relacionado à biblioteca pode ser atribuída a uma concentração de estudos sobre mediação cultural em museus, exposições de arte e na área pedagógica, de modo que, são muitas as atuações envolvidas na mediação cultural, porém, sua paisagem conceitual e o fazer da mediação em diferentes situações e lugares é ainda nova e sedenta de pesquisas e reflexões. Ao se falar sobre a mediação cultural, leva-se em conta de que se trata de uma área complexa, transdisciplinar, necessitando de investigações e devendo ser melhor concebida no plano conceitual. As publicações existentes não aprofundam o status científico da mediação cultural em bibliotecas. Diante disso, traçou-se como objetivo geral de pesquisa a construção de um conceito para a mediação cultural em bibliotecas com base na Ciência da Informação. Para alcançar o objetivo geral, estabeleceu-se os seguintes objetivos específicos: realizar um retrospecto sobre a sociedade e bibliotecas no brasil: primórdios e evolução; descrever sobre as perspectivas em torno do conceito de cultura e informação, destacando-se a relação entre cultura e informação; explorar a função cultural das bibliotecas, observando-se as perspectivas da animação cultural e ação cultural; investiga... (Resumo completo, clicar acesso eletrônico abaixo) / Abstract: The debates about cultural mediation in Information Science in Brazil emerged at the beginning of the 21st century. However, in the context of libraries, there are few publications about their cultural function. In Brazil, the research gap on the theme related to the library can be attributed to a concentration of studies on cultural mediation in museums, art exhibitions and in the pedagogical area, so that there are many activities involved in cultural mediation, its conceptual landscape and the mediation in different situations and places is still new and thirsty for research and reflection. When talking about cultural mediation, it is taken into account that it is a complex area, transdisciplinary, requiring investigations and should be better conceived in the conceptual plane. Existing publications do not deepen the scientific status of cultural mediation in libraries. In view of this, the general objective of research was the construction of a concept for cultural mediation in libraries based on Information Science. Descreve e analisa quem são os atores sociais por trás desse equipamento cultural, analisando os interesses que estão em jogo naquele território; a complexa dinâmica entre os moradores, a polícia e a biblioteca também são descritos e analisados, baseados no trabalho de campo desenvolvido. A partir da fundamentação teórica, observações diretas, e das entrevistas semiestruturadas com as crianças que frequentam o espaço e dos profissionais que lá trabalham, procurou-se entender as dinâmicas que ocorrem para a construção diária da biblioteca. Os resultados do estudo apontam que há uma precariedade no que se refere à gestão do espaço, e, consequentemente do projeto das UPPs, porém, através das narrativas das crianças entrevistadas, pode-se perceber os benefícios que a biblioteca gera para a comunidade, que vão muito além da leitura e que produzem maior acesso a serviços e a informações que são fundamentais para a cidadania; também foi possível verificar a apropriação que as crianças desenvolveram com o espaço, através de vários usos não-programados da biblioteca. / The present study proposed to investigate the impacts generated in the community after the inauguration of the Morro do Andaraí library. It describes and analyzes who the social actors are behind this cultural equipment, analyzing the interests that are at stake in that territory; the complex dynamics among the residents, the police and the library are also described and analyzed, based on the fieldwork developed. From the theoretical basis, direct observations, and semi-structured interviews with the children who attend the space and the professionals who work there, we sought to understand the dynamics that occur for the daily construction of the library. The results of the study indicate that there is a precariousness regarding space management, and consequently of the UPPs project, however, through the narratives of the children interviewed, one can perceive the benefits that the library generates for the community; benefits that go far beyond reading and produce greater access to services and information that are fundamental to citizenship; it was also possible to verify the appropriation that the children developed with the space, through several non-programmed uses of the library.
