"Discordia concordans" : les Ruthènes de la grande-principauté de Lituanie au temps de l'Union de Brest (milieu du XVIe siècle - milieu du XVIIe siècle) / "Discordia concordans" : Ruthenians of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania at the time of the Union of Brest (mid-16th century - mid-17th century)

Tatarenko, Laurent 01 February 2014 (has links)
This study on the Ruthenian community of the 16th and 17th centuries analyses the religious life of Eastern Christians of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, at the moment of the division of the Kievan metropolinate between Roman and Constantinopolitan obediences. With the example of western Lithuania (Vilnius and Trakai voivodships), which corresponded to a border area between the ecclesiastical structures of Greek and Latin rites, it proposes to explain the issues and consequences of local conflicts and negotiations, associated to the schism occurred after the Union of Brest in 1595/1596. Through a variety of sources (court archives, tax records, pastoral visits, correspondences, Roman archives, controversial treatises etc), the survey aims to situate the faithful of the Eastern rite within geographic space and social structures of this multiconfessional territory. On a smaller scale, the work also highlights the rôle of Lithuania in the general upheavals of the Ruthenian Church of this period in order to understand the differences with the soutern parts of the metropolitan diocese which was more reluctant to recognize the authority of the Pope. This « regionalization » of the history of the Union of Brest finally tries to measure the impact of religious reforms on laity and ti identify different process involved in the formation of confessional identities on the borders of Latin Christianity of the post-Tridentine era.

Marine et ouvriers de la construction navale à l'arsenal de Brest (1918-1970) : du paternalisme d'Etat à la mondialisation économique, un mouvement syndical partagé entre pragmatisme et idéologie / French navy and shipbuilding workers at the Brest arsenal (1918-1970) : from the state paternalism to the globalization, a trade union movement shared between pragmatism and ideology

Le Moigne, Alain 02 October 2015 (has links)
In the context of fundamental changes to the french naval military structure, for many decades, the unions at the Brest arsenal are facing haemorrhaging membership at a side which was one of the bastions of Breton worker militancy throughout the 20th century. Confronted by a decline which seems irreversible, the repeated evocation of far off ‘feats of arms’ has helped the development of an image of an establishment in perpetual agitation. Without ignoring the protest culture, obvious at certain times, this research proposes the existence of a union policy guided by a wish for negotiations with a compliant hierarchy rather than systematic opposition. From the social advances between the wars to the end of the decade of the 60s, the research identifies the progress of a workers’ movement adapting to successive changes in the political-economic climate and of the traditional state administration to the notion of productivity hitherto foreign to naval military construction.Though history and memory sometimes diverge, while the arsenal tends to become a strong patrimonial stake, this study will try hard to announce between the myths and the realities by replacing the facts in the successive historic contexts, by restoring in the events the rightful place which they occupied in the life of the workers and the unions and by restoring the implication and the responsibilities of every social player in the functioning and the life of the establishment and also in the constitution of labor aristocracy in the Finistère. As well as cutting a new historical path, it seeks to understand and explain the image of confrontation at the finistère arsenal at the time it transformed into a cornerstone of the heritage of Brest.

The presented study aimed to quantify and evaluate the presence or absence of mast cells in different types of malignancies in the mammary gland of the female dogs. For this, it was used the blue toluidine in the histochemical colours with the purpose of detecting mast cells, and immunohistochemical techniques, using the antibodies Ki-67 to the proliferation of the cells and caspase-3 antibody to identify undergoing cells in apoptosis. All samples were put according to the pathological classification for dog’s and cat’s breast cancer in the World Health Organization. About the racial pattern, it was observed a higher number of cases in animals without breed, and in the animals with breed, the Poodle was the one with the largest number of cases. The average age of the female dogs was 8.6 years old. The morphological types of neoplasm founded were: carcinoma in situ with 0.98% (1/102), complex carcinoma with 45.09% (46/102), simple carcinoma in 35.29% (36/102) carcinosarcom in 10.78% (11/102) and special types of carcinomas that were represented with 7.89% (08/102) of the total number of cases. The mast cells were presented in the neoplasic focus with 96.08% (98/102), and it prevailed in areas where there are lots of human tissues, especially around the vessels. About the immune numbers of samples using the Ki-67 (MIB-1), it was conclude that 99% (101/102) showed positive results. However, using the caspase-3 it was showed positive results in 95% (97/102). About the influence of mast cells in the proliferation of neoplasic cells, it was observed a significant positive correlation between the number of mast cells and the proliferation (Ki-67) for the complex carcinoma (p 0.05). The correlation between death and cells proliferation showed a negative significant relation in spindle cells carcinomas, between the apoptotic number (Caspase-3) and the proliferation number (NORs). Influence of Terminal Functionality on the Crystal Packing Behaviour and Cytotoxicity of Aromatic Oligoamides

Delfosse, Pierre, Seaton, Colin C., Male, L., Lord, Rianne M., Pike, Sarah J. 09 December 2021 (has links)
Yes / The synthesis and characterization of three aromatic oligoamides, constructed from the same pyridyl carboxamide core but incorporating distinct end groups of acetyl (Ac) 1, tert-butyloxycarbonyl (Boc) 2 and amine 3 is reported. Single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis of 1-3 and a dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) solvate of 2 (2-DMSO), has identified the presence of a range of intra- and intermolecular interactions including N-H⋯N, N-H⋯O=C and N-H⋯O=S(CH3)2 hydrogen-bonding interactions, C-H⋯π interactions and off-set, face-to-face stacking π-π interactions that support the variety of slipped stack, herringbone and cofacial crystal packing arrangements observed in 1-3. Additionally, the cytotoxicity of this series of aromatic oligoamides was assessed against two human ovarian (A2780 and A2780cisR), two human breast (MCF-7 and MDA-MB-231) cancerous cell lines and one non-malignant human epithelial cell line (PNT-2), to investigate the influence of the terminal functionality of these aromatic oligoamides on their biological activity. The chemosensitivity results highlight that modification of the terminal group from Ac to Boc in 1 and 2 leads to a 3-fold increase in antiproliferative activity against the cisplatin-sensitive ovarian carcinoma cell line, A2780. The presence of the amine termini in 3 gave the only member of the series to display activity against the cisplatin-resistance ovarian carcinoma cell line, A2780cisR. Compound 2 is the lead candidate of this series, displaying high selectivity towards A2780 cancer cells when compared to non-malignant PNT-2 cells, with a selectivity index value >4.2. Importantly, this compound is more selective towards A2780 (cf. PNT-2) than the clinical platinum drugs oxaliplatin by > 2.6-fold and carboplatin by > 1.6-fold. / University of Bradford Development Fund; University of Birmingham - Birmingham Fellowship; UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship (MR/T041315/1); UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship (MR/S035486/2)
