Brexit a jeho dopady na evropskou integraci / Brexit and its implications for European integration

Hecht, Petr January 2020 (has links)
The diploma thesis Brexit and its implications for European integration uses the method of explanatory case study in an effort to analyze the causes and impacts of the Great Britain's withdrawal from the European Union. The thesis therefore examines the historical context of the complicated relations between Great Britain and the European Communities from their formation in the 1950s to the present, which ultimately led to the historic step of United Kingdom's withdrawal from the EU on 31 January 2020. The thesis then maps the negotiations regarding the Withdrawal Agreement and the future arrangement of mutual relations, which took place between 2016 - 2020. The effects of the UK's withdrawal from the EU on the composition and functioning of the European institutions and the impact of the changes on the remaining member states are also analyzed. In addition, the work presents possible arrangements of economic relations between the two parties, which are currently the subject of negotiations between the UK and the EU during the transitional period from 1 February 2020 to 31 December 2020. Lastly, the thesis works with the White Paper presented by the European Commission in 2017 in order to analyze five possible scenarios for the future development of European integration. For this, the thesis...

Never Mind the Brexit: Poverty in the UK : A Comparative Qualitative Content Analysis of the Conservative Party’s Poverty and Welfare Discourses, 2015 - 2019

Harrison, Robert January 2021 (has links)
In a 2018 United Nations (UN) report on extreme poverty and human rights in the United Kingdom, the British government was condemned for their implementation of austerity measures. The Conservative Party, who had instigated and overseen the austerity measures, were accused of dismantling the welfare state and forcing millions of people into poverty. In 2016, two years prior to the UN report, there was a seismic juncture in British society: the United Kingdom voted to leave the European Union. This resulted in years of social division and political turmoil. This thesis analyses the discourses of poverty and welfare employed by the Conservative Party in the backdrop of Britain leaving the European Union. It applies a combination of a Critical Discourse Analysis and Qualitative Content Analysis to the 2015, 2017 and 2019 Conservative Party manifestos. In applying this methodological framework, it aims to scrutinise how the discourse attributed to poverty and welfare contrasted before and after the decision was made to leave the European Union and contemplates the societal implications of this. The paper finds that the main connection presented in the manifestos between poverty, welfare and EU membership is EU migration and that the Conservatives’ discourse employed in attribution to this changed significantly after the referendum result of 2016.

Den polariserande politikern : En kvalitativ studie av hur Boris Johnson gestaltas i svensk och brittisk press / The polarising politician : A qualitative study of Boris Johnson in Swedish and British newspapers.

Orneklint, Sanna January 2019 (has links)
The aim of this bachelors thesis has been to examine and analyse the framing used when reporting about Boris Johnson in context with Brexit in both Swedish and British media coverage. The research questions examined in this study were: In what way is Boris Johnson framed in British and Swedish media coverage surrounding Brexit in his first three weeks as prime minister? What could explain the possible differences that occurs between the Swedish and British media coverage? I have in combination with a qualitative text analysis as well as framing theory and news valuation theory analysed material from four major news papers. Two news papers from Sweden, Dagens Nyheter and Aftonbladet. As well as two from Great Britain, The Guardian UK and The Sun UK. One of each county’s news paper focuses on qualitative and objective journalism and one from each country which can be regarded as a tabloid, evening paper, from these four news papers a total of 12 articles, three from each paper was selected. To arrive at my conclusion every article was analysed trough what frame, conflict, personification or elite person, Boris Johnson was portrayed as well as if the frames felt clear, subtle or well as if any frame could not be found in the text. Through the analysis I found the result to be that every article had personified Boris Johnson with Brexit, even if the article did not directly have a focus on the Brexit conflict. The personification is a constant backgrung trough every individual article. Secondly I found that the frames through which the newspapers portrayed conflict differed, depending from which country the news paper reported from. The Swedish news papers portrayed conflict through a broader perspective, having a stronger focus on Brexit as a concept whilst the British newspaper framed conflict in a much more detailed way. Focusing on more detailed topics with higher interest for the british population.

Scottish independence as a social construction: An analysis of separatist discourse since Brexit : (1) How has Brexit made renewed calls for an independence referendum cogent less than a decade after the first independence referendum was held, and its defeat had been accepted by key separatist actors?(2) How have particular subjects and their positions been constituted to make a second independence referendum inevitable?

Rahemanji, Sophie January 2022 (has links)
Anglo-Scottish relations have become a major topic in British political debate in recent years. In 2014, Scottish officials who supported a separate, independent Scotland finally convinced the UK government into having a Scottish independence referendum. However, a majority made the decision to support the continued union with England, and the question of Scottish independence was supposedly ‘settled for a generation’ (Cameron, 2014). Yet, now in 2022 it appears that a second independence referendum on the horizon. How has the first independence referendum result been nullified in less than a decade? This study shows how the UK’s exit from the EU (Brexit) has affected the Scottish separatist movement. It maps out how the discourse has changed, and how the EU (European Union) is now a dominant subject in separatist argumentation. In addition, the relationship between England and Scotland has changed since the introduction of the EU to the separatist independence debate. A discourse theory analysis is used to help understand how subject constructions and their positions in discourse effects calls for Scottish independence. This paper finds that the introduction of the EU is the major change to Scottish separatist discourse since 2016, and this has served to bring the independence debate back into the forefront.

L'évolution de la politique étrangère britannique depuis le Brexit

Aubé, Frédéric 11 1900 (has links)
Brexit has provided a unique opportunity for the UK with to redefine its role on the international stage. However, the national roles that the British government wishes to project are not necessarily received as such by members of the international community, who conceive the country's new identity according to their own perceptions. Building on similar work analyzing the period prior to the UK's official exit from the European Union, this dissertation seeks to provide an up-to-date picture of British foreign policy since the implementation of Brexit in 2020 which integrates how it is perceived by the international community. In addition, this work explores some theoretical explanations as to why British foreign policy has evolved the way it did by integrating role theory with other theoretical currents in International Relations.

Question & Answer EU Law

Guth, Jessica, Mowlam, Edward T. 2017 July 1931 (has links)
No / EU law is not a subject enjoyed by most students but it really does not have to be difficult. Every EU law question is likely to ask you to apply your knowledge of the law to a particular context – either a practical one, as in problem questions, or a more theoretical one, as in essay questions. For both you need to remember that EU law does not exist in isolation but is inextricably linked with the national legal systems of the Member States. The interaction between European law and these systems is crucial to understanding how EU law works. EU law is often considered in a political context and this has become very apparent in the UK following the referendum in June 2016 and the vote for ‘Brexit’. At te time of writing Brexit negotiations are continuing and for now EU law applies as it always has in the UK. Recognising that your political stance is likely to influence your views on EU law is valuable and something which can make your answers stronger, particularly in relation to questions on historical, constitutional or institutional issues.
