Huňáček, Tomáš January 2015 (has links)
This master's thesis deals with the topic of designing an agile methodology for Business Intelligence projects. The thesis presents the topic of Business Intelligence, methodologies for managing projects and methodologies for data warehouse development. It presents Scrum, BEAM* and Data Vault methodologies as well as approaches like pomodoro, Action Centered Leadership and a 40-hour work week. Based on synthesis of presented methodologies and approaches this thesis defines the methodology for managing Business Intelligence projects. The newly designed methodology HooBI is a minimal methodology for agile management of Business Intelligence projects based on data warehouse, containing Business Intelligence elements and approaches for effective work. The usage of methodology is double verified; firstly, by comparison of managing a completed past project with its alternative of eventual usage of the designed methodology HooBI, secondly by expert review. The Methodology should simplify the development and management of Business Intelligence projects and can be used by professionals in the field of Business Intelligence.

The reasons for its establishment, subsequent development and actual vision are listed to create a comprehensive view of the environment where the described product was created. Along with the chapter focusing on characteristics and main advantages of QlikView a knowledge base is established for the implementation of proposed methodology. Crucial chapter of this thesis is based on the author's experience gained while implementing QlikView projects. The proposed methodology is based on the description of each phase, its activities, inputs and outputs and its concrete application in a demo environment for the area of receivables in manufacturing company. The key contribution of the author is pointing out potential problems during development or warning about critical parts or providing appropriate recommendations and benefits of the proposed procedures. The problematics of data visualization is introduced and trend of self-service business intelligence is discussed with analyzing its benefits as well as restrictions. Technological factors which helped to fast development of SSBI are mentioned as well. A methodology has been created within practical part of the thesis. It is enforceable for any other tool from the family of SSBI and it is possible to assess the extent of support within observed categories through this methodology: Using information, Creation of information, Creation of sources and Visualization. A set of criteria on basis of which the evaluator can create evaluation form corresponding to his/her needs was defined for each of the stated categories. Usability of the methodology is illustratively demonstrated at mutual comparison of chosen modules of both tools while those parts are sufficiently described before the evaluation itself.

A framework for the strategic deployment of business intelligence systems

Waterson, Elton 05 June 2012 (has links)
M.Tech. / Business Intelligence (BI) is a method used to improve on business decision-making, using collections of software applications and tools to view historical, current and predictive operations of a business. However, a company‟s BI solution will not be successful if it is not implemented in a comprehensive and strategic manner. There are three key issues that prevent organisations from benefiting from BI systems. These issues include the lack of pervasiveness of BI systems, managing a variety of non-related systems that do not work well together and using traditional methods that have not evolved to meet organisational needs (Koehler, 2008). BI vendors misinform many business users that BI tools are usable by all users in an organisation, and end up been too complex for the average user to use. The first mistake an organisation makes when assessing a BI system is neglecting to include business users on selecting the best option, although they will be the main users of the solution (Quinn, 2007). Many Information Technology (IT) departments ask for BI systems based on the assumption that once it is built, that users will automatically see the benefits. BI applications require a clear and intimate understanding of the business itself and it is only by working on business and IT issues in tandem that the real value of BI is realised (Hostmann, 2007).

Hodnocení projektu Implementace BI v poradenské společnosti / Evaluation of project of Business Intellgence implementation in consulting company

Řezníček, Miroslav January 2011 (has links)
This diploma thesis deals with the implementation of Business Intelligence in small and medium-sized companies and furthermore focuses on an agile project management and introduces possibilities for this approach. The aim of the project is to present an agile methodology of Business Intelligence implementation and comparison of processes of a real project with the procedures proposed in this methodology and eventually propose improvements. The thesis is divided into three main parts. The first part is an introduction to the theory, in which the concept of Business Intelligence is introduced and important terms as transactional and analytical systems, data warehouse, data mart, etc. are described, being followed by research of previous works focused on Business Intelligence implementation. The introduction to the theory is closed with introducing CRISP-DM methodology for SMEs and agile methodologies as Scrum and Extreme Programming. The objectives of the thesis and some sub-goals are achieved through the analysis of the agile methodology "Agile Data Warehousing for Business Intelligence implementation" in the second part of the thesis. The final main section is a comparison with a real project, in which certain improvements are also proposed for future use. The benefit of this thesis is especially the unusual view at the implementation of Business Intelligence through agile approach and proposed methods for future use in small and medium-sized companies. The benefits are also described particularly for business companies in the area of financial advice.
