Knowledge management is a way to effectively manage corporate knowledge. Goal of the thesis is to analyze tasks and ways of knowledge management and technological means to support it and test chosen software tools for creation of knowledge base of business terms. First part of the work is dealing with analysis of knowledge management, technics and tools, which are used and technologies for its support. Second part is focused on testing tools for creation of business terms knowledge base for needs of Business Intelligence Competency Center. Main asset of this thesis is in creating comprehensive overview of technics and tools of knowledge management and proper technologies for its support and in creating desicion-making basis for company, which tool they should use to establish business terms knowledge base in their firm.

In this thesis, I want to explore present (y. 2012/2013) modern trends in Business Intelligence and focus specifically on the rapidly evolving and, in my (and not only) opinion, a very perspective area of analysis and use of Big Data in large enterprises. The first, introductory part contains general information and the formal conditions as aims of the work, on whom the work is oriented and where it could be used. Then there are described inputs and outputs, structure, methods to achieve the objectives, potential benefits and limitations in this part. Because at the same time I work as a data analyst in the largest bank Czech Republic, Czech Savings Bank, I focused on the using of Big Data in the banking, because I think, that it is possible to achieve great benefits from collecting and analyzing Big Data in this area. The thesis itself is divided into 3 parts (chapters 2, 3-4, 5). In the second chapter you will learn, how developed the area of BI, how it evolved historically, what is BI today and what future is predicted to the BI by the experts like the world famous and respected analyst firm Gartner. In the third chapter I will focus on Big Data itself, what this term means, how Big Data differs from traditional business information available from ERP, ECM, DMS and other enterprise systems. You will learn about ways to store and process this type of data, as well as about the existing and applicable technologies, focused on Big Data analysis. In the fourth chapter I focus on the using of Big Data in business, information in this chapter will reflect my personal views on the potential of Big Data, based on my experience during practice in Czech Savings Bank. The final part will summarize this thesis, assess, how I fulfilled the objectives defined at the beginning, and express my opinion on perspective of the trend of Big Data analytics, based to the analyzed during the writing this thesis information and knowledge.

This diploma thesis deals with implementation of open source Business Intelligence solution Pentaho Community Edition 5.0 (Pentaho CE) in particular healthcare institution and it tries to prove its usability in full operation. In theoretic part there are defined concept and principles of Business Intelligence and specifics BI solution implementation in healthcare. In practical part there are detailed analysis of Pentaho CE and demonstration of usage in healthcare presented by implementation into specific healthcare institution. The main benefit of this thesis is description of implementation Pentaho CE using author's practical experience in healthcare area and advanced knowledge of Pentaho CE. The main goal, the verification of usability in production, is fulfilled in both theoretical and practical parts of this diploma thesis. There are also calculated costs and approximate suggested schedule of main activities. Functionality of Pentaho CE is attested in detailed analysis which is possible to use as guide on its own describing general architecture of Business Intelligence solution Pentaho CE.

The thesis presents a Business Intelligence solution in higher education area. The solution is comprised of the design and implementation of representative tasks, metrics, dimensions and analytical applications with the use of MBI methods. The sub-goal is to summarize knowledge gained by the BI project implemented in higher education area by IBM Corporation. A Hands-on knowledge was used to achieve the set targets. This knowledge confirms the fact that designed tasks, metrics and dimensions are indeed applicable in practice. The main contribution of the thesis consists in enriching the MBI methodology with a solution applicable in high education sector. The interim contribution lies in documentation of specifics connected with implementation of the BI project within Internatinal Business Machines Corporation.

The thesis deals with the theoretical and practical aspects of implementation of Business Intelligence in a field of geo-location data with emphasis on the design and implementation of data architecture and the development of dynamic dashboards. The whole issue is described on the development of a tool for the analysis of geo-location data, on which the author participated with other members of the Competence Center Retail Analytics - Ondrej Funiok, Vilem Kalus and Martin Matejka. The first part of the thesis describes the theoretical bases of Business and Location Intelligence, which is followed by a description of the basic tasks of working with geo-location data - data storage in relational database management systems, data processing by map servers and data presentation. Individual tasks are described with practical examples and use software tools to support these tasks. The next section presents the project of development tool for the analysis of geo-location data that is created in the Retail Analytics Competence Center at the University of Economics, Prague. The second part of the thesis describes the design and implementation of the data architecture of developed tool, which is followed by a description of the frontend portion of the tool consisting of the implementation of a library for creating dynamic Dashboards to present geo-location data.

Business Intelligence Success: An Empirical Evaluation of the Role of BI Capabilities and the Decision EnvironmentIşik, Öykü 08 1900 (has links)
Since the concept of business intelligence (BI) was introduced in the late 1980s, many organizations have implemented BI to improve performance but not all BI initiatives have been successful. Practitioners and academicians have discussed the reasons for success and failure, yet, a consistent picture about how to achieve BI success has not yet emerged. The purpose of this dissertation is to help fill the gap in research and provide a better understanding of BI success by examining the impact of BI capabilities on BI success, in the presence of different decision environments. The decision environment is a composition of the decision types and the way the required information is processed to aid in decision making. BI capabilities are defined as critical functionalities that help an organization improve its performance, and they are examined in terms of organizational and technological capabilities. An online survey is used to obtain the data and partial least squares path modeling (PLS) is used for analysis. The results of this dissertation suggest that all technological capabilities as well as one of the organizational capabilities, flexibility, significantly impact BI success. Results also indicate that the moderating effect of decision environment is significant for quantitative data quality. These findings provide richer insight in the role of the decision environment in BI success and a framework with which future research on the relationship between BI capabilities and BI success can be conducted. Findings may also contribute to practice by presenting information for managers and users of BI to consider about their decision environment in assessing BI success.

Factors Influencing BI Data Collection Strategies: An Empirical InvestigationRamakrishnan, Thiagarajan 08 1900 (has links)
The purpose of this dissertation is to examine the external factors that influence an organizations' business intelligence (BI) data collection strategy when mediated by BI attributes. In this dissertation, data warehousing strategies are used as the basis on which to frame the exploration of BI data collection strategies. The attributes include BI insightfulness, BI consistency, and the organizational transformation attribute of BI. The research population consisted of IT professionals and top level managers involved in developing and managing BI. Data was collected from a range of industries and organizations within the United States. An online survey was used to collect the data to empirically test the proposed relationships. Data was analyzed using partial least square path modeling (PLS). The results of this study suggest that there exists a positive relationship between institutional isomorphism and BI consistency. The results also indicate that there exists a positive relationship between BI consistency and BI comprehensive data collection strategy, and the organizational transformation attribute of BI and BI comprehensive data collection strategy. These findings provide a theoretical lens to better understand the motivators and the success factors related to collecting the huge amounts of data required for BI. This study also provides managers with a mental model on which to base decisions about the data required to accomplish their goals for BI.

Este trabajo busca conocer —a partir de una exhaustiva revisión de artículos de alto impacto— cuáles son las principales aplicaciones de la inteligencia artificial (IA) que han potenciado las estrategias empresariales. Se abordan los siguientes temas para responder la pregunta de investigación. En primer lugar, se define inteligencia artificial y se estudia su evolución; se alude también a las distintas posturas respecto a ella. En segundo lugar, se explica en qué consiste la inteligencia de negocios, ya que en los últimos años las empresas han demostrado interés por mejorar sus procesos con base en el manejo de grandes volúmenes de datos. En tercer lugar, se analiza el aporte de la IA a la inteligencia de negocios, su aplicación en las distintas unidades organizativas y el apoyo a la generación de estrategias empresariales. Finalmente, se incide en cómo la IA permite mejorar las estrategias de las organizaciones. Se concluye que la IA transforma la interacción de los humanos con las máquinas, ayudando a aumentar sus capacidades para la toma de decisiones, lo que es especialmente relevante para los negocios contemporáneos y, en particular, para la estrategia empresarial. / This work seeks to undestand, since an extensive review of very important articles, which are the main applications of the artificial intelligence (AI) that have improved the business strategies. The following issues are addressed in order to answer the questions of the investigative work. First, artificial intelligence is defined and its evolution is studied. It also refers to different positions abou it. Second, it is explained what the business intelligence consists, because, lately, companies have been interested in improving their processes based on the management of big data. Third, the contribution of the AI to the business intelligence is analyzed; also its application to the different organisational units and the support to the generation of business strategies are analyzed. Finally, the focus is on how the AI allows to improve the strategies of the organizations. It is concluded that the AI transforms the interaction of the human beings with machines, helping to increase their capacities of making decisions; this is very important for the contemporary business, and especially for the business strategy. / Trabajo de Suficiencia Profesional
