Dold berättare – VFX i Harry Potter-filmerna : En analys av digitala visuella effekter i Harry Potter och de vises sten & Harry Potter och Dödsrelikerna Del: 2 / Invisible Storytelling: Visual Effects in Harry Potter

Popek, Erik January 2018 (has links)

Royalty Free: An Exhibition of User-Made Objects from The Sims

Heuman, Mary Jac 01 January 2018 (has links)
"Royalty Free" is a video game that looks like a gallery, containing a curated selection of custom plant objects made by fans of The Sims franchise. By exploring the visual style and social-technical activities of players outside the game, it both appreciates and speculates about the potential future of 3D computer graphics as an expressive medium.

Investigation of Hydrogen and Nitrogen Content in Compacted Graphite Iron Production

Siafakas, Dimitrios January 2013 (has links)
The aim of this research, part of a wider program called SPOFIC, is to investigate how the casting procedure affects the concentration of hydrogen and nitrogen gases in Compacted Graphite Iron used for the production of truck cylinder blocks. Hydris equipment was used for the Hydrogen measurements and the Optical Emission Spectroscopy and combustion analysis methods were used for the nitrogen measurements. The experiment was performed in one of the cooperating foundries. It was found that Hydrogen content is increased during pouring of the melt into the mold but nitrogen content does not seem to be effected by the process. In both cases the gas content never exceeded the solubility limit. The results are comparable with results from similar researches regarding Gray Cast Iron. / SPOFIC

Relation between microstructure features, cooling curves and mechanical properties in CGI-cylinder block

Nährström, Elin January 2014 (has links)
The purpose of this master thesis was to evaluate variations in solidification and cooling rate in compacted graphite iron prototype cylinder blocks and for each position relate this to the microstructure and also relate the microstructure to mechanical properties. This has been done to increase the knowledge to predict mechanical properties in cast iron components. There were three sample categories; reference-, tensile test- and thermocouple samples. The investigation included analysis of cooling curves, SinterCast parameters, image analysis, measured hardness and tensile strength. Thermocouples of type N were used at interesting positions for observation of the cooling behaviour and the image analysis was carried out by the software Axio Vision SE64 by Carl Zeiss GmbH. The hardness was measured according to Brinell HBW 5/750 and tensile testing was performed according to standard SS-EN ISO 6892-1:2009. It is concluded that the microstructure depend on many parameters, one of them is the position in the cylinder block. A relation between solidification time and the microstructure features; secondary dendrite arm spacing and eutectic cell size was observed. Because of dissimilarity in microstructure between the tensile test samples and thermocouple samples it is believed that the thermocouples have contributed with a cooling and/or nucleation effect. Considering the mechanical properties there is not solely the nodularity, eutectic cell size or secondary dendrite arm spacing that are the controlling microstructure feature, more research needs to be made.

Too close for comfort : Finding positive aesthetic value in the uncanny valley

Svensk, Isabella January 2022 (has links)
The goal of this paper is to create a positive account of Masahiro Mori’s theory of the uncanny valley. A theory wherein Mori speculated on the relationship between one’s perceived affinity for a robot and the human-likeness of that same robot. Mori believed that the closer to a human a robot looked, the higher one’s affinity for it would be, until a certain point where the robot looked close enough to a human without being fully convincing. When this happened one would feel a negative affinity for the robot. Mori called this phenomenon the uncanny valley.  In later years, Mori’s theory has gained more popularity and is now applied outside of robotics. Most notably it is often applied to the medium of 3D animation and CGI, which is what this essay will be discussing when trying to create a positive account of the uncanny valley. To do so it will discuss the phenomenon in relation to some examples of 3D animation and CGI that critics have claimed reside in the uncanny valley. This essay will give an overview of what the uncanny valley actually entails as well as give an explanation of how the uncanny valley can be applied to 3D animation.  In order to create a positive account, this essay will claim that the positive aesthetic value that the uncanny valley can lead to is akin to that of Brecht’s idea of the distancing effect. This essay argues that the uncanny valley distances the viewer from what they are viewing and that makes the viewer gain didactic knowledge of both CGI and their own relationship to technology. This essay will argue that this is a positive aesthetic experience that is unique to the uncanny valley.

An Intelligent Presentation System

Lidan, Hu January 2008 (has links)
The master thesis project - Personal video: An Intelligent Presentation System (IPS) - was conducted at the Department of Communication Systems, Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), Stockholm, Sweden. The focus of this thesis is designing, building, and evaluating an intelligent environment for giving presentations which makes all the technologies of the existing devices invisible to the presenter, i.e., to remove difficulties of configuration, compatibility, etc. from hindering the user from being able to give their presentation. IPS is an application in a hot research field - Ambient Intelligence (AmI) which is influenced by user – centered design. Therefore, the goal of IPS is to improve the user’s experience. As compared to a traditional presentation system, IPS integrating several independent applications hence improving the user’s efficiency and offering greater user friendliness. In this thesis, a prototype of IPS was designed which combines an online presentation room booking system (running on a context server), a CGI presentation control module (running on a presentation server), and a cross platform control panel (which could be running on a PC, laptop, PDA, cellular phone, etc.). This prototype realized our goals of providing an intelligent and comfortable environment for both the presenters and the system a dministrators.
