Noronha, Isabelle de Luna Alencar 04 November 2008 (has links)
Made available in DSpace on 2015-05-07T15:09:52Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 1 parte1.pdf: 2041329 bytes, checksum: 18897a484dae8655cb4095769a098dff (MD5) Previous issue date: 2008-11-04 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPES / The following research paper discusses the educational practices of Casa Grande Foundation Homem Kariri Memorial, a NGO that works with education, communication, art and culture in the countryside of Ceará State. It consists of a bibliographical and ethnographical study, whose theoretical-methodological referential is the Oral History. During this work, it was searched to understand how a NGO, like Casa Grande Foundation, which is known for the fact that is managed by children, teenagers and young, who are protagonists of their teaching and learning processes, got the success as a consistent educational project, attracting the eyes of the world for it, over its fifteen years of existence. For this, an incursion was necessary in the complex world of NGOs and in the national and state policies of incentive to culture. We locate the interfaces of non-formal education in Casa Grande Foundation, with the patrimonial education, because it works with the local culture through researches, valorization and caring of Cariri Region Archeology, in Ceará. The patrimonial education in the everyday Casa Grande Foundation s knowledge and creations propitiate the development in boys and girls the feeling of making part a place, which can be reflected in practices of conscious and active citizenship for the preservation of immaterial and material patrimony in Cariri Region, Ceará, throughout their lives.

The Casa Grande Foundation - People from Kariri Memorial (FCG-MHK), “Casa do Patrimônio” (Home of the Heritage) from Araripe Plateau is the most visited touristic attraction in Nova Olinda, a city in Cariri, located in the South of the State of Ceará. In the Regional Tourism Program Map – Brazil Destinations from 2006, Nova Olinda featured as one of the “65 Destinies inducers of Regional Touristic Development”. The objective of this survey was to investigate the work of the FCG-MHK between 2006 and 2016, in relation to the cultural heritage and local tourism, contextualized in the region of Cariri. We chose the theoretical-methodological approach from the new cultural geography. We articulated the bibliographical research with documents and participating observation. The primary data was collected by means of informal conversations, semi-structured interviews and photographs. The interpretation and analysis of the material led us to infer the following aspects: 1) The safekeeping of the cultural heritage from Cariri has been the main objective of the FCG-MHK since its creation in 1992; 2) The tourism is dealt in a community way as an alternative of income for the families in the FGC-MHK; 3) For the residents-hosts form the FCG-MHK, the tourism considers the interaction and knowledge and know-how exchange between themselves, visitors and tourists; 4) The majority of the tourists attracted to Nova Olinda through FCG-MHK, look for learning, formation, and cultural and enrichment exchanges; interaction with the residents, identifying characteristics of the cultural tourism; 5) The work form the FCG-MHK resulted in direct benefits to improve the urban structure of Nova Olinda; We found the even with all the challenges, the FCG-MHK has been able to make a high level job regarding the social cultural value in the past 24 years, joining protection and safekeeping the cultural heritage of Cariri with an informal education and income generation for a great deal of the population in the city, constituting as a resistance cell to the hegemonic model of distribution of touristic economic results.

Casa Grande Ruins National Monument Foundations for Cultural Affiliation

Zedeno, Maria Nieves, Stoffle, Richard W. January 1995 (has links)
This report summarizes information on the prehistoric, historic, and ethnographic foundations for the cultural affiliation of burials and associated funerary objects from Casa Grande Ruins National Monument in Casa Grande, Arizona. This study was commissioned by the National Park Service’s Applied Ethnography Program in Washington, D.C., to identify American Indian tribes potentially affiliated with the human remains and associated funerary objects from Casa Grande Ruins National Monument. This study is one of the responses by the National Park Service to the requirements stipulated in the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act of 1990. The report should provide sufficient criteria for determining potentially affiliated individuals and tribes to be contacted for future consultation. This research determined the following Native American ethnic groups are affiliated to the national monument: Akimel O'odham, Tohono O’Odham, Zuni, Hopi, and Maricopa.

Reconfiguring nation, race, and plantation culture in Freyre and Faulkner

Santos-Neves, Miguel Edward 13 November 2013 (has links)
Gilberto Freyre's Casa-grande & senzala (1933) (The Masters and the Slaves) and William Faulkner's Absalom, Absalom! (1936) revisit and reevaluate Romantic notions of history, especially national progress and attendant accounts of racial purity and whiteness of "the people." The plantation home emerges in their texts as the common locus of historical and cultural experiences and as the principle symbol and metaphor for the domination of colonial forces. This dissertation explores how Freyre and Faulkner both take up the contemporary issue of miscegenation as the primary theme in their respective works. They elaborate this theme and explore its ramifications through the central, grounding image of the plantation home, which they approach through a historical sensibility and from a historical perspective. Freyre and Faulkner work from within paradigms from Europe to rewrite them, as they re-think the legacies of colonialism and of the plantation organization in non-national, non-ethnic, non-Hegelian, generative, deterministic terms. Their works seek to offer viable and independent counter-discourses to the dominant European cultural models -- new, non-nationalist narratives of historical destiny based on culture and economics rather than on any overarching political-historical destiny, as the epics of Europe's nations had been told in the era. This dissertation hopes to contribute to the scholarship that questions the essentialist notions of race and nation, as they were conceived on the plantation in rural regions of the New World. This project recovers a transnational tradition of political opposition -- a tradition that roots itself in the anthropology of experience rather than in the determinism of origin and inheritance. It will also argue for disciplinary realignments in the literature of the Americas, by proposing that further efforts be made to study the New World plantation and its effective geography. On the basis of the discussion on Faulkner, Southern literature ought to observe a new division between the Upper South and the Lower South, demarcated by the border between North and South Carolina, on the basis of the demographics, economics, and, in turn, self-understanding of these respective regions. / text
