The following essay analyzes the novel Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk from three different perspectives; Marxism/capitalism, masculinity, and the Oedipal complex. The aim is to understand why the protagonist in the novel uses violence as a means of expression. In the end it is concluded that all three perspectives are important factors when trying to understand the character's violent behavior.

Chuck Palahniuk’s Lullaby is a novel that evaluates modern spaces both abstract and physical, especially in regards to an individual’s experience in and attachment to domestic, regulated space as a source of identity, intimacy, and spatial representation. My thesis demonstrates how the destabilization of domestic space as a result of loss and grief led the characters of the novel to question their normative perceptions of space, and in turn, incited them to produce a new kind of space, a heterotopia, to compensate for their loss of identity and place in the world. The critical analysis of this text within this thesis demonstrates how Chuck Palahniuk employs his literary style, complex characters, and surreal plot to highlight the significance of how individuals interact and are affected by space, especially in regards to identity and relationships within society, particularly when confronting cognitive dissonance and uncanny affect. By assessing the haunting attributes of domestic space, the heterotopia that arises from cognitive dissonance, and the sentimental traits that anchor us to certain social spaces, readers will be able to value the influence of spatial practice, not only in the novel, but also in everyday life.

Master's thesis is focused on design of robotized workplace for assembly of drill chucks. In the first part the fundamental issue is described. The next part contains an analysis of selected chuck, which continues with design of robotized workplace including components. The thesis is also focused on a work cycle design, risk analysis and economic evaluation. Drawing documentation, 3D workplace model and work cycle simulation video is attached.

Los textos de CineScrúpulos son elaborados por los alumnos, profesores y colaboradores de la Facultad de Comunicaciones de la UPC. Las imágenes utilizadas son de distintas páginas web. La figura que se aleja como danzando, dueña de su propio futuro incierto, es una de las odas más hermosas al optimismo y a la sonrisa permanente, a pesar de las adversidades que afronta. Porque no debemos olvidar que Charlot es pobre pero digno, a pesar de que Chaplin, el personaje de carne y hueso, estuvo rodeado de una serie de polémicas por sus aparentes constructos ideológicos y por su conocido interés por las féminas. Pero eso no opaca un corpus fílmico que alumbró piezas que hoy son consideradas clásicos indiscutibles de la historia del cine. Por ello, en aras de saldar una cuenta pendiente, hemos decidido dedicar la presente edición de CineScrúpulos al genio de Chaplin. Pero no es lo único. Como suele suceder en cada ciclo académico, este número viene sazonado con algunos artículos interesantes. Nuevamente ingresamos al terreno de la tecnología para indagar si el universo de futuro que plantea la serie Black mirror tiene algún punto de conexión con el imaginario que despliega James Cameron en sus películas. De más está decir que el autor de Terminator (James Cameron, 1984) es un visionario y enfrenta en cada una de sus obras una serie de retos a nivel técnico pero también narrativo. Lástima que el presente texto haya sido elaborado antes del estreno de ese laberinto de discurso que es Black mirror: Bandersnatch (David Slade, 2018), pero prometemos en el futuro una indagación al respecto. Los dibujos animados también tienen su espacio en CineScrúpulos. Por supuesto, estamos hablando de los ejemplos más descabellados, surrealistas y transgresores que uno puede tener a mano. ¿Dragon Ball Z? No te pases. El universo de Chuck Jones está plagado de delicias que se disfrutan mejor a medida que pasan los años. Y Space jam (Joe Pytka, 1996) fue un producto altamente disfrutable en la década de los noventa. La gran interrogante que se plantea es si maneja el mismo tipo de comedia o toma otros referentes. Leer para creer. Y ya que hablamos de risotadas, el tercer artículo de fondo intenta establecer similitudes y diferencias entre un puñado de películas marca Tondero y otras que establecen nuevos derroteros en el cine de género en el Perú y que tiene que ver con el desenfreno. Es bueno hacer industria, pero las voces disidentes merecen ser escuchadas. Como puedes ver, esta edición está plagada de sonrisas.

Nightjars are a group of nocturnal and aerial insectivorous birds that have experienced long-term decline likely driven primarily by habitat loss and declines in prey populations. Eastern Whip-poor-will (Antrostomus vociferus) and Chuck-will’s-widow (Antrostomus carolinensis), two nightjar species native to Illinois, declined 69% and 58% since 1966, respectively. Although previous survey efforts have documented presence of Chuck-will’s-widow and Whip-poor-will, their current distribution in the state is not well known. Using Autonomous Recording Units (ARUs) deployed in a uniform, systematic grid, I surveyed 142 locations from May – July 2022 on public and private lands across the southern eleven counties of Illinois to assess Whip-poor-will and Chuck-will’s-widow distribution and estimate species occupancy. I estimated species relationships with proportion of landcover types, forest patch configuration, and proximity to other landcover types. Additionally, I quantified disturbances from the past 15 years to estimate species relationships to the severity and duration of disturbances. I deployed ARUs for 710 survey days collecting 170,400 minutes or 3,000 hours of recordings. Acoustic bird call identification software, BirdNet, was highly accurate at detecting focal species and greatly reduced the time spent manually reviewing acoustic data. BirdNet identified 43,922 calls of Whip-poor-will and 31,447 calls of Chuck-will’s-widow. I detected Whip-poor-will on 78 surveys with 100% accuracy and Chuck-will’s-widow on 75 surveys with 76% accuracy. Whip-poor-will were positively associated with forest patches with large core areas that neighbored pastures. Additionally, Whip-poor-will were likely to occupy landscapes that had experienced low to moderate disturbance within the previous 15 years. Covariates used to model Chuck-will’s-widow occupancy explained little variation in detection or occupancy and there were no significant relationships with any covariate. However, examining non-significant trends suggest similar relationships as Whip-poor-will in the area. Results highlight the efficiency of passive acoustic monitoring for these birds and the need for further investigation into Chuck-will’s-widow species-environmental relationships. In southern Illinois, Chuck-will’s-widow populations appears to be consistent with previous estimates from the 1990s while Whip-poor-will follow the broader trend of decline.

En utilisant les théories de Baudrillard et de Foucault, l'imposition d'une identité par la société moderne s'explique en relation à sa domination par le capitalisme de consommation et par la présence médiatique. Les univers romanesques de cet auteur s'inscrivent dans la tradition américaine où, par l'emploi du langage littéraire, sont développées les notions de liberté et de libre arbitre au coeur de l'identité nationale américaine rendant possible la lutte contre les différents dispositifs de contrôle présents dans cette société (m'inspirant du projet de Weinstein). Cette étude ne porte pas seulement sur l'enfermement identitaire, tant individuel que culturel des personnages, mais aussi sur les problématiques de l'identité masculine et de la passivité dans ces deux romans. L'auteur tente de solutionner lesdits problèmes en brisant la solitude de ses personnages que ce soit parce qu'ils réussissent à faire partie d'une communauté les reconnaissant comme un sujet unique, parce qu'ils établissent une connexion grâce au partage de leur histoire personnelle ou parce qu'ils retrouvent les sentiments d'appartenance et d'amour liés à la famille. / This thesis focuses on the internalization of identity in Chuck Palahniuk's novels Lullaby and Survivor in regards to each character's role within their respective families and surroundings (environments). Using both Baudrillard and Foucault's theories, we can demonstrate that one's identity, created by our modern society, can be explained by its domination by the capitalist mantra and the mediatic presence. The literary universes created by Palahniuk are in the American style where literary language is used to develop the notions of liberty and free will within the American national identity, enabling the main protagonists to fight against the various control methods present within this society (inspired by Weinstein's project). This study does not fucus solely on the internalization of identity, both individual and cultural, but also on the problems related to the masculine identity as well as the character's passivity in both novels. The author attempts to solve these problems by breaking its character's solitude either by way of integrating them in a community that recognizes them as unique individuals, by establishing a connection based on the retelling of their personal history or by reconnecting with the feelings of filial love and belonging.
