Black Filmmaker's Foundation

Worsley, Gayll 07 May 2004 (has links)
Can architecture live in the passage of real time and memory? It has occured to me that movement must not be limited to action (horizontal and vertical.) For instance, the movement of people, light or objects are not the only consideration. In fact I have overlooked passive motion. Perhaps a design could link both passive and active motion as the design element. The independent African American Filmmaker creates a cinematic experience that lives in layers of time. In the end the film is sustained in the memory of the viewer. / Master of Architecture

Spazio e immagine nell'esperienza filmica contemporanea: questioni di design e cultura visuale / Space and Image in the Contemporary Cinematic Experience. Design and Visual Culture Issues.

DE ROSA, MIRIAM STEFANIA 17 June 2011 (has links)
Recent acquisitions in Visual, Cultural, and Media Studies emphasize the trend to use the contemporary proliferating images – mainly screen-based – in order to build knowledge and culture. Intercepting the current debate dealing with the post-medial condition involving cinema, the research project aims to detect this process. While assuming an experiential approach, it attempts to explore the forms of cinematic experience as it leaves its own precincts and finds new expressing solutions within everyday encounters. Starting from the emergence of original image-patterns in different contexts and situations of daily life, the observation focusses on the mechanisms which lead to a modelling of filmic experience into particular shapes and configurations. The result of these operations represents what is to be called 'space-image'. The interpretation key-concept of this category and of its structural processes (dwelling, projecting, furnishing) is design: this is intended here as transfomation options able to inform and re-inform experiential materials. Setting the study of cinematic experience under the sign of space-image means thus to reframe the presence and rising of moving images in a perspective of organic integration and texture, which permits to identify the new places of cinema in our time.

Movie Theatres Facing The Multiplication of Screens. A Multidisciplinary Analysis of the Situation in Turkey

Vitrinel, Ece 10 March 2015 (has links)
The object of this research is the movie theaters and the relationship of the audience with them. To embrace all aspects of the movie theaters in the era of proliferation of screens, the study which follows up a socio-economic perspective articulating quantitative and qualitative methods is organized into three parts. The first part describes the general lines of the cinematic experience with its screens and sites, the second directly addresses the context of the film industry in Turkey, and the third sets out to analyze the place of the movie spectators in this particular context. It thus tries to build up like a jigsaw puzzle, a portrait of the typical spectator in Turkey, hoping that this portrait would be relevant to understand today’s audience. The field observations made within the framework of this study demonstrate the existence of a common line cutting across all types of movie theaters, whether it be multiplexes, neighborhood cinemas or alternative screening areas, and illustrate the continuation of the theater experience at home.

The cinematic experience in the movie theaters of two districts of Lima (1980 – 2019)

Huarcaya Araujo, Mauricio Jesus 07 May 2021 (has links)
This research work seeks to describe the cinematic experience in the cinemas of Miraflores and Cercado de Lima, and in the 80s, 2000s, and 2019. The time and space delimitations respond to an intention to explore, generationally, how viewers live the individual and collective dynamics that arise from the peculiar space of the movie theaters. It seeks to reach the objective, considering the lack of research in this regard, by delineating the concepts of the cinematic experience and the art consumption and then interacting with the same viewers in the collection of their lived experiences.

Thibodeau, Simon 04 1900 (has links)
This thesis explores how theories of moving image reception that have or have had a significant impact on the development of film studies as a discipline are centered around the movie theater and on “movie-going” practices. The analysis of a representative set of theoretical and historiographical approaches to the cinematic experience allows for the definition of key principles that unearth various forms of mediation at play in the movie-going experience. Jean-Louis Baudry’s “apparatus theory” and Christian Metz’s notion of the “imaginary signifier” both suggest a theory of movie-going experience stressing the transparency effects on spectators of the mediation of certain architectural and technological aspects of movie theaters and focusing on the symbolic and institutional nature of this form of mediation. In contrast, Roger Odin’s semio-pragmatic approach and New Cinema History’s critical historiography (as theorized by Robert C. Allen and Richard Maltby) conceptualize the opacity of a complex set of sensory, relational, social, and economic mediations occurring in movie theaters, which last during the entire experience of the audience in these exhibition sites. By unspooling the complexity of the theoretical stances above mentioned, this thesis moves towards the definition of a heterotopic cinema experience formulated from within the context of film studies.
