Gender Difference in Role-Play : Male and Female Character Language in World of Warcraft

Skoglund, Jeanette January 2009 (has links)
In this essay, I have investigated whether players of World of Warcraft change their language to suit the gender of the character they play. I have researched if there are gender differences that correspond to what is defined as male and female language in mixed-sex conversations. Chat-logs, collected during four participant observations, were used for making an analysis based primarily on research by Coates (1993) and Yale (2007). Seven features were selected for analysis: amount of participation, hedges, questions, directives and commands, taboo language, compliments and grammar. It was possible to discover gender differences, but these were not consistent in all areas of research. For example, female characters had a higher contribution than males, as well as a higher use of hedges and tag-questions among males, which contradicts previous research. The lack of consistency might be due to the fact that the participants do not specifically consider all areas as typically female or male, or their unawareness of these tendencies. We also need to consider disagreement in previous gender studies as well as folklinguistic belief. The explanation of the lack of consistent differences may be a more equal relationship between males and females in this context, or due to thepossibility that the participants, who are usually male, make use of their normal male language.

[en] AUTOMOBILE PANEL: CLUSTER´S DESIGN ACCORDING TO INFORMATIONAL ERGONOMICS / [pt] PAINEL DE AUTOMÓVEIS POPULARES: O DESIGN DO CLUSTER DE DIREÇÃO SOB O ASPECTO DA ERGONOMIA INFORMACIONAL

RODRIGO PEIXOTO LEITE 23 October 2006 (has links)
[en] The evolution of automobiles design has interesting characteristics, under the point of view of the aesthetic-functionary relation established at each time. In the beginning, the projects of unique vehicles prioritized the functionality in detriment of well-being of the user. In this way, the present study aimed to demonstrate that this variation of the positioning and project generates confusion and errors of judgment by the user, and can cause serious accidents and incidents during the accomplishment of the task, mainly to that user that is not familiar with the system to be used. To state this hypothesis, a study was elaborated that, first, searched to understand the automotive development of the commands and counters and the use of norms and recommendations of project to trace a panorama of the disposal of the information in the interior of the vehicles. For the development of the research, the approach in the

Monitorování výpadků zkušebních stanic / Monitoring of test station downtime

Šebesta, David January 2016 (has links)
This thesis is about the monitoring of testing station downtimes at the DS/ETC (Diesel Systems / Engineering Testing Center) Bosh Diesel s.r.o. department in Jihlava. The goal of the monitoring is to get a record and an immediate warning for each machine downtime. The testing engineers are able to edit downtime reports and to create statistics and the Pareto analysis based on the reports. In the beginning of the thesis there are generally described the ETC department and the SCADA system. The monitoring system is designed and implemented based on the requirements of the ETC department. SMS messages sent via a GSM module what is connected directly to the server are used for immediate downtime warning. The test engineers have the graphic user interface what they can use to edit downtime reports. Statistics are generated individually based on the adjustable data filter. The department can focus primary on the finding out the reasons of the downtimes what leads to the biggest reduction of the test machine downtimes.
