Este trabalho acompanha o desenvolvimento da filosofia de Condillac do Ensaio sobre a Origem dos Conhecimentos Humanos até o Tratado dos Animais, obra em que o autor se aplica à definição daquilo que é próprio do humano e que se pode considerar a mais completa descrição de seu sistema de pensamento. A partir da reconstrução da noção de Metafísica do abade, encontramos uma interessante articulação entre as discussões científicas da época e a tentativa de estabelecer um novo fundamento para todo discurso possível, apoiado nas noções de natureza, humano, língua e moral. A crítica à racionalidade e ao conhecimento operada por Condillac no âmbito da linguagem pode ser aplicada e melhor compreendida através da aproximação de sua filosofia com a ciência newtoniana e as discussões da fisiologia em meados do XVIII, para terminar, surpreendentemente, numa compreensão mais adequada da consistente recuperação da retórica clássica e das dimensões ética e política da experiência humana levada a cabo pelo autor. / This work follows the development of Condillacs philosophy from the Essay on the Origin of Human Knowledge to the Treatise on Animals, work in which the author takes on the definition of what is properly human, and can be considered the most complete description of his system of thought. Beginning on the reconstruction of the abbots metaphysics, we find an interesting articulation between the scientific discussions of the time and the attempt to establish a new grounding for all possible discourse, relying on the notions of nature, human, language and morals. The critique of rationality and of knowledge made by Condillac in the field of language can be better applied and understood through an approximation of his philosophy with newtonian physics and discussions on physiology in the middle of the eighteenth century, and finishes, surprisingly, in a more adequate comprehension of the consistent recuperation of classical rhetoric and the political and ethical dimensions of human experience as conceived by the author.

Cette thèse interroge la manière dont les penseurs des Lumières françaises ont compris, analysé et fondé philosophiquement les effets de sens de la musique, c’est à dire aussi bien les modalités selon lesquelles la musique produit du sens, que les modalités selon lesquelles l’être humain est affecté par la musique. Elle interroge plus généralement la place qu’occupe la pensée musicale dans l’économie des savoirs sur l’être humain au siècle des Lumières. Le sujet de la musique y est envisagé sous trois angles : comme corps physique soumis à un phénomène acoustiquement structuré (partie I), comme être parlant confronté au phénomène expressif primordial de la voix (partie II) et enfin comme imagination confrontée à des fictions sonore ou des imitations (partie III). / This PHD thesis examines how French philosophers from the enlightenment understood and analyzed musical effects, that is, how music produces meaning, but also, how the human being is affected by music. It is more generally about the specific place held by musical thought in the global anthropologic knowledge of the eighteenth century. The musical subject is here considered in three manners: first, as a body affected by an acoustically structured phenomenon, second, as a speaking animal affected by voice, and finally as a mind confronted to musical fictions or imitations.

Os quatro capítulos centrais são constituídos por estudos sobre as idéias de Diderot, d' Alembert, Condillac e Condorcet nos quais se procura ressaltar, para cada pensador, o aspecto mais notável em relação à educação matemática. Em Diderot, esse aspecto se encontra no sentido político da educação matemática; d' Alembert se distingue por sua consideração da epistemologia da Matemática como a base da educação matemática. Em Condillac, destaca-se a valorização da educação matemática no plano cognitivo geral; em Condorcet, as concepções e propostas para a educação matemática na instrução pública. Os capítulos inicial e final apresentam, respectivamente, o quadro da educação matemática na França do século XVllI, antes da Revolução, e o contexto da mesma educação no período pós-iluminista, da morte de Condorcet à Restauração / Abstract: This thesis is focused on elucidating visions on Mathematical Education of four Eighteenth Century French Enlightenrnent authors, namely, Diderot, d' Alembert, Condillac and Condorcet. These philosophers main views on Mathematical Education, as perceived, are here organised in four exc1usively dedicated chapters, each of them selecting and approaching the core themes and arguments of each author. Accordingly, Diderot's main ideas on the topic are aimed at the political meaning of Mathematical Education, whereas to d' Alembert, the central aspect to be underlined is the Mathematical Epistemology. As for Condillac, the priority is given to the evolving cognitive frameworks. Finally, it is believed that Condorcet' s ultimate emphasis is on public education.
