Relationships Among Marital Satisfaction, Marital Conflict Dimensions, and Marital Conflict StrategiesHogge, Jennifer L. 01 May 2007 (has links)
Marital distress has been shown to negatively affect child outcomes. John Gottman has claimed that he has developed a concept that can buffer children from the negative effects of marital distress. The concept is emotion coachin g (EC), which teaches children about emotions. emotion regulation. and effective problem-solving. Children who are emotion coached have better out comes regardless of level of marital di stress. Gottman also claims that emotion coaching parents report higher marital satisfaction and tend to score higher in positive conflict resolution styles and lower in negative conflict resolution styles. This study set out to test Gottman's concepts of EC and emotion dismissing (ED) and their relationships with marital satisfaction and marital conflict. In addition, this study explored the relationships between marital conflict and marital satisfaction. Lastly, this study set out to use a se lf- report instrument to measure EC and ED, the Maternal Emotional Style Questionnaire (MESQ: Legace-Seguin, 200 I). Unfortunately, the MESQ in this study d id not have adequate reliability to answer the questions of how EC and ED were related to marital satisfaction and marital conflict. However, results were reported for relationships between marital conflict, marital satisfaction. and demographic variables.
Results suggest that when one uses one negative way o f resolving conflict, one is likely to use other negative strategies. Also, when one uses the positive way of resolving conflict, negative strategies are less likely to be used. Resu lts showed that frequency/severity of conflicts were related to the perceived seriousness of arguments and reports of conflicts being resolved. Also. number of times conflicts were resolved was related to decreased perceived seriousness of argument topics. Marital satisfaction was related to higher scores on· positive conflict strategies and conflict efficacy and lower scores of frequency/severity of conflicts and negative conflict strategies. Discussion includes implications for further research and family therapy.

Varsågod och skölj...är du snäll! : Ledares upplevelser kring ledarskapstil och konfilkthanteringsstrategierMeijer, Anneli, Dixelius, Sophie January 2007 (has links)

The nature of conflict within an engineering company in the North West Province / Jaco VenterVenter, Jaco January 2006 (has links)
There is a need to determine the real reasons for conflict in the South African context. because it seems that the transformation process brought forth a reduction in work opportunities, workers losing their jobs, an increase in workplace violence, increasing dissatisfaction amongst workers, more strikes occuring, affirmative action, discrimination, recruitment of workers without the appropriate skills, corruption, workers who are too lazy to work, and professionals going overseas, etcetera.
Personnel in the companies must be adequately informed about the nature of conflict, the causes of conflict, the types of conflict and the management of conflict, because conflict is increasing and it must be managed correctly otherwise it will be destructive and inhibit the functioning of a company.
The objectives of the research study are as follows:
a) To determine how conflict dynamics are conceptualised in literature through the application of industrial sociological theories, organizational principles and general management theories.
b) To determine the main sources of conflict within the Engineering Company.
c) To determine if personnel on the horizontal and vertical levels in the Engineering Company are influenced differently by conflict.
d) To determine if there is a significant difference between the personnel in the Engineering Company in the manner in which they handle conflict with their superior and subordinates. The research study consists of a theoretical and an empirical framework. Chapter 1 covers the introduction, problem statement, the method and purpose of the research, and the description
of relevant terms.
In Chapter 2, the philosophies of Georg Friedrich Hegel and Immanuel Kant, and the theories of Karl Marx and Max Weber are used to serve as a basis on which the study can be built.
In Chapter 3, the nature of conflict is discussed in terms of the following types of conflict: interpersonal conflict, intrapersonal conflict, intergroup conflict, and intragroup conflict. The management of the different types of conflict is also discussed. Chapter 3 covers the empirical data of the research, and the empirical research results of the study. The most important results of this study and recommendations are given in Chapter 5. / Thesis (M.A. (Industrial Sociology))--North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 2006

The Everyday Experience of Satisfaction, Conflict, Anger, and Violence for Women in Love RelationshipsSmith, R. Lee 05 1900 (has links)
The problem of this study addressed how women experience the conflict variables of beliefs about conflict, anger arousal, conflict styles, and received and expressed violence as partners in love relationships and how these factors affect their reported satisfaction.
Graduate women (M = 186) from University of North Texas completed the Dyadic Adjustment Scale (DAS), a subscale of Relationship Beliefs Inventory (RBI), the Multidimensional Anger Inventory (MAI), and Interpersonal Conflict Tactics and Strategies Scale (ICTAS), and the Severity of Violence Against Women scale (SVAW). Data were analyzed using MANOVAs with ANOVAs to examine significant differences. Multiple regression procedures were used for the exploratory questions.
Women reporting less satisfied relationships were expected to believe that disagreement was more destructive and to report higher anger arousal than those who were more satisfied. The hypotheses were supported. Women who were less satisfied also reported using less constructive conflict tactics and more destructive and avoidant tactics as well as receiving some forms of violence. Expressed violence was not significantly related to low satisfaction.
Results suggested that these conflict variables are highly interrelated. Strong feedback loops may develop. Strongly held conflict beliefs may affect the use of destructive and avoidant conflict strategies and increase anger which may reinforce the conflict beliefs.
Women who have received violence may use both destructive and avoidant tactics. Use of tactics that escalate then de-escalate conflict suggests that conflict strategies may not be mutually exclusive. However, when a woman is low in anger and has previously received violence from a partner, she may use more avoidant tactics. In contrast women who express violence to their partners may use all three conflict tactics including constructive tactics. This finding suggested that women may express violence as a last resort to get a reaction from their partners.

Chefers hantering av mellanmänskliga konflikter inom hälso- och sjukvård : En litteraturöversikt om konflikthanteringsstrategier / Managers' management of interpersonal conflicts in health care : A literature review on conflict management strategiesBergius, Marie, Claesson, Martin January 2021 (has links)
Background: In health care organizations, conflicts are inevitable, constantly occurring and a natural part of the workplace. Decreased health in the form of occupational illnesses and stress can be attributed to unhandled workplace conflicts. Despite this, many nurse managers experience discomfort and difficulties with how conflicts should be handled. Aim: This study aimed to compile current research and present an overall picture of different conflict management strategies relevant to health care administration during the years 2010-2021. This is to contribute to the sustainable management of interpersonal conflicts in health care in order to promote a health-promoting work environment. Method: Systematic literature study with a qualitative approach. The analysis was performed by synthesizing and compiling twelve primary scientific studies with both a qualitative and quantitative approach. Results: Our result indicates a causal relationship between demographic factors and the choice of conflict management strategy. Furthermore, the results show that there is an awareness among managers that compromising, integrative and active conflict management generally is the most effective, but some studies indicate that avoidant and dominated strategies is prevalent. The results also show that managers use several different conflict management strategies. Conclusion/Discussion: Effective conflict management positively affects occupational health, organizational efficiency, and the quality of care. Therefore, we believe that conflict management should be a priority area for managers and management training in healthcare. There is a lack of studies based on the Swedish context, causation and choice of conflict management strategies, and connection to occupational health. Further research is needed to achieve and enable sustainable and health-promoting leadership.

An Attempt to Set A design Base for post-conflict housing in the historic core of Homs, Syria / Ett försök att sätta en designbas för bostäder efterkonflikten i den historiska stadskärnan i Homs, SyrienAldaher, Sébastien January 2021 (has links)
The built environment in the old city of Homs has been brutally destroyed by the conflict in Syria. The research gap in post-conflict planning and architectural design in the old city of Homs is alarming as it indicates that there are no clear roadmaps on how to deal with post-conflict housing units in such a historic area. This study aims to investigate the possible design basis of housing typologies and plans for the housing units in the old city after the conflict. This study is primarily based on a literature review and extensive discussions with a specialist architect from the city of Homs, who helped to gain a deeper understanding of how to approach such a topic. The literature review deals with the historical Arab cities’ components and the elements of courtyard houses both in general and in the old city of Homs in particular. Likewise, it looks at the city’s urban plans and building code and their shortcomings and highlights the current conditions there. It also highlights proposed strategies for post-conflict construction and discusses them. The findings of the study propose a design ideology for reconstruction strategies and translate these ideologies and findings from the literature into a practical design of typologies placed on a proposed plot of land in the old city, along with a proposal of what the plans of these houses might look like.
