composição social e a percepção simbólica.
The present research brings an updated knowledge approach of the cultural landscape of
the Village of Conceição de Ibitipoca - MG, reflecting on the consequences of
production and space reproduction over time, as well as the relation of local architecture
- through the materials used and the constructive techniques - with social composition
and symbolic perception. Having its economy based on tourism, strongly attracted by
the natural beauties of the region, with the great changes occurred in the last decades in
the village the preservation of its cultural identity is put to the test. A methodology for
integral reading of the landscape is developed, capable of indicating parameters and
constructive key elements to be used as reference in the Code of Postures and in the
Municipal Law of Organization of the Soil´s Occupation and Use. The application of
the methodology had positive and revealing results in relation to the fidelity of the
physical data collection and confrontations with the historical and dynamic path of the
actors, proving the potentiality of the resources. It was concluded that, with all the
adaptations and readjustments of the natural evolution of its local architecture, there are
many parameters that are still respected and followed, which are directly symbolically
related to its history, since the exploration of the gold cycle three centuries ago, until the
current tourist exploration. However, it is proposed constructive guidelines related to
the foundations, fences, frames, roofs, walls and restraints and volumetry of the
buildings of the village, fundamental to the preservation of the identity of the landscape
in question.

This work's purpose is to present the development of software related to the stage of masonry's building design, through the use of the programming language AutoLISP. The software, entitled ALVPLUS, aids in the activities of masonries' modulation, automatic generation of elevations and insertion of details related to the structural masonry as constructive dispositions, armors, materials quantification and legends, available in its database. Besides, it's discussed the parameters associated to the implementation of the constructive rationalization, considering the compatibility between the structural designs and the other projects (architectural, installations, among others). The use of this software propitiates the productivity's increase and the standardization of the masonries' projects, as well as the increase of the quality and understanding of those projects.

Civil construction has often been a subject of several studies due to its importance for the economic scenario in the country. At first, the construction sector was understood as a synonymous of economic backwardness, since its activities were grounded by precarious working conditions, low productive organization, high costs and wasting. According to those studies, only the fully industrialization of the construction would represent the technological development of the sector. A second discussion tendency has identified that despite the insecurity historic of the construction industry, there has been considerable progress related to the production rationalization in the recent decades. From the 2000s in Brazil, large-scale housing projects destined for low-incomes were promoted by construction companies and developers through public resources. At this point, the question that arises is how did such a massive production of housing become possible in a short period of time in the scope of building sites? Therefore, this researchs main goal is to identify and analyze the industrialization trends in the building sites of the large-scale housing production. Based on three methodological research strategie bibliographical, field and documentary this research analyzed the building sites of two construction companies. It was identified at the production of large-scale housing developments, the implementation of organizational, management and control strategies which allowed significant gains on productivity. In the analyzed cases, it was not about the fully industrialization of construction, but an intense process of production rationalization.

Uso do resíduo escória de aciaria em sistema construtivo de alvenaria estrutural / Use of steel slag in structural masonry construction systemAntonio Carlos Giocondo Cesar 21 November 2014 (has links)
This thesis describes the development of a constructive component for structural masonry, using the industrial residue slag of electrical steel shops as raw material, replacing all natural aggregates. To develop such component, its physical and chemical properties, as well as its toxicity, were verified, aiming at characterizing the material and establish methods to calculate the dosage of the aggregates proportion in the mixture. In the tests to define the dosage, it was found that the cement matrix itself was contamined, requiring decreasing its fraction to ensure the mixture was in accordance to environmental parameters. An experimental facility was installed at the laboratory, aiming at verifying the technical and economical feasibility of masonry parts manufactured with the component. It was observed lower costs compared with typically available parts. The properties of the masonry parts, such as physical, mechanical, dimensional, water absorption and retraction, were tested, with satisfactory performance results. Once there are no specific parameters to be applied to this particular raw material, it was used technical standards applied to regular concrete blocks. The performance of the new masonry component, as a constructive system, was evaluated in pilot application, with satisfactory results in terms of assembly of interlocked parts, masonry stage automation, interface with typical materials, as well as its termal, structural and leaking properties. The overall results allow the conclusion that using slag of electrical steel shops as aggregated raw material of masonry components are viable.

Exploring the experiences of child and youth care workers in residential care through a constructive-developmental lensModlin, Heather 19 April 2018 (has links)
Child and youth care workers in residential care provide support and intervention to young people who are experiencing difficulties in their lives. Caring for these young people can be complex and demanding and many child and youth care practitioners struggle to meet the challenges associated with their roles. Practice problems include volatile and punitive environments, inability of practitioners to safely manage young people’s threatening and aggressive behaviours, and staff turnover and burnout. These problems are often attributed to job stress, personal characteristics of practitioners, and lack of education, training, and professional development.
To reconceptualise the aforementioned practice problems, Robert Kegan’s (1982) constructive-developmental theory was used as a theoretical framework to explore the experiences of child and youth care workers in residential care. The research was guided by 2 main questions:
1. How do different meaning-making systems influence how practitioners cope with and experience the demands of the job?
2. What role does the organizational environment play, if any, in mediating or exacerbating the demands of the job for practitioners with different meaning-making systems?
An exploratory study was conducted using a mixed methods design. The study was conducted in two stages. First, 99 participants completed the Professional Quality of Life Scale (ProQOL), Work Environment Scale (WES), and Leadership Development Profile (LDP). Linear regression was conducted to explore the relationships between the ProQOL, LDP, and WES and most results were not significant.
From the initial pool, 18 participants were selected for in-depth, qualitative interviews to assess their constructive-developmental orders – the ways in which they make meaning - and explore their experiences in residential care in the areas of job satisfaction and success, challenge, and coping with the demands of the job. The ways in which participants at different constructive-developmental orders experience and cope with the challenges of their jobs are described and themes are identified. There was internal coherence among participants of the same epistemological order and across organizations.
This dissertation examines implications of the findings for child and youth care practice, education, training, supervision, research, and organizational management in residential care. / Graduate

Constructive Mythopoetics in J. R. R. Tolkien's <em>Legendarium</em>Korpua, J. (Jyrki) 03 November 2015 (has links)
Abstract
This doctoral dissertation discusses constructive mythopoetics in J. R. R. Tolkien’s legendarium, the mythopoetic logics and elements on which Tolkien’s texts and his fantasy world are constructed.
My aim in this research is to create a reading of Tolkien’s fiction that shows that it is possible to discern a mythopoetic code in Tolkien’s legendarium. My hypothesis is that Tolkien’s mythopoetic fiction aims to be coherent on the levels of languages, myths, and inter- and intratextual background. This coherence can be found throughout the various texts and fragments of Tolkien’s fiction. From the cosmogonical creation myth of The Silmarillion, to the fairy-story lightness of The Hobbit and the quest fantasy of The Lord of the Rings, Tolkien’s fiction has its roots in the mythopoetic logics of his theory of creative writing (or myth-making). Tolkien is the sub-creator; he is creating myths and building his own world. For Tolkien, God is the primary creator, but the author is the (sub-)creator of his own creation. This is consistent throughout Tolkien’s legendarium, despite the fact that whilst creating his fiction, Tolkien is “pretending” to be a translator of mythical pseudo-historical documents.
In the main chapters, my research logics trace the inner timeline of Tolkien’s legendarium. Starting from the creation of the world, I move onto the long fall and struggle and to the end of the world. When discussing the theme of creation, I focus on the concept of creation on the intratextual level of Tolkien’s legendarium as well as on Tolkien’s aesthetics of creative work. In the end of the dissertation, I turn my attention also to the creative work of the reader.
My theoretical approach is influenced by both Northrop Frye’s constructive theory of literature and Benjamin Harshav’s theory of constructive poetics. I discuss the creative methods of speculative historical epic and the dichotomies of beginning and end, good and evil, mortality and immortality, spiritual and physical, and visibility and invisibility, as well as how these elements are manifested in Tolkien’s mythopoetic vision. The structure of Tolkien’s constructive mythopoetics is illuminated through the grand concepts of the Creation, the Existence, the Fall and the Struggle.

Two case studies on real time quality cost measurement in software businessSippola, K. (Kari) 03 December 2008 (has links)
Abstract
Malmi et al. (2004) argue that the cost of quality (COQ) literature typically deals with manufacturing or service organizations in continuous or repetitive business processes in which identical or similar activities and work phases are repeated in the same sequence or order, batch after batch or customer after customer. Many modern businesses, such as the software business, are outright project based, or operate like a string of semi-independent projects characterized by unique resources, customized activity or work sequence order, and a predefined start and finish. COQ measuring and reporting are traditionally based on ex post calculations. In this study, an idea of real-time quality cost measurement will be developed and tested. The literature on real-time quality cost accounting is limited or even non-existent. The dissertation investigates whether it is possible to measure quality costs as a real-time basis in the software industry. The purpose is to develop a model for measuring quality costs on a real-time basis in software development. This is achieved by seeking answers to the research question how to measure quality costs on a real-time basis in the software industry. The research extends the current literature in three main respects. First, the study presents the idea of measuring quality costs in real-time basis. Second, a contribution is made by investigating how the characteristics of software business impact on the accounting of quality costs by presenting the nature and distinction of software business as well as its implications for software quality and applying quality cost measurement to the software business. Third, this study is expected to make a contribution by investigating how to use quality cost measurement as a management accounting tool in modern software business environment.
The constructive research approach (CRA) proposed by Kasanen et al. (1993) is used in a case company, A, that develops and produces packaged software used in embedded products. Since it is not typically possible to pass semi-strong or strong market tests within a medium-term time span, the construction is tested by using more detailed nuances within the weak market test category suggested by Labro and Tuomela (2003) in order to analyse the level of progress of the construct. The possibility of constructing a real-time cost of quality measurement system developed in Case A is also tested in another case company (Case B) to make the weak market test stronger, and the boundary conditions how to construct such a system in a totally different working environment are charted. The results indicate that such a system could be constructed irrespective of the cost accounting environment or the software used. The anticipated contribution arises from the fact that the construct is a novelty that leads to a new means of quality cost accounting in software business (cf. Lukka 2000).

An optimization model using the Assignment Problem to manage the location of parts : Master Thesis at the engine assembly at Scania CV ABLundquist, Josefin, O'Hara, Linnéa January 2017 (has links)
A key challenge for manufacturing companies is to store parts in an efficient way atthe lowest cost possible. As the demand of differentiated products increases, togetherwith the fact that old products are not phased out at the same pace, the need of usingstorage space as dynamically as possible becomes vital.Scania’s engine assembly manufactures engines for various automotive vehicles andmarine & industry applications. The variation in engine range in Scania’s offeringleads to the need of holding a vast, and increasing, assortment of parts in the produc-tion. As a consequence, this puts more pressure on the logistics and furnishing withinthe engine assembly. This master thesis aims to facilitate the process of assigning parts’ storage locationsin the most profitable manner through an optimization model, the Location Model, inExcel VBA. Together with the model, suggestions of work methods are presented.By implementing the Location Model at Scania’s engine assembly, 4,98 % of all keptparts are recommended location changes, while resulting in cost savings, for the chosen30-day period. These location changes result in a cost saving of 6,73 % of the totallogistic costs for the same time period.

The abuse of church leadership : a pastoral care perspectiveMoje, Khumoetsile Dorcas 28 November 2012 (has links)
The purpose of this research is to help people who have been hurt by bad leadership, and also to find out why they move from one church to the other. This is an undercover issue since in most cases the Pentecostal church family projects strength than weakness. This study deals with people who have been hurt by bad leadership that verbally attacks and curses them from the pulpit. The pulpit is already a position of power and if not handled rightly, it has negative ramification on the hearers. One of it is the mobility of membership, from one Assembly to the other in search for more understanding and encouraging atmosphere. This particular abuse of power has been a burning issue within some of the Pentecostal churches and has been overlooked and without any redress. Therefore this thesis attempts through pastoral care approach, to deal with these issues, that have affected some church members. The problem in the study has been extensively explained and a method of helping and healing those that are hurt is also projected substantially. The different types of leadership and leadership qualities are also tabulated and explained to enable an understanding that people deserve a better approach. Since the researcher has been in the church for a long time, and through observation has experienced how some people were verbally abused from the pulpit has motivated her to conduct a research. Specially, on how to care for those who are wounded in spirit, as she mentioned some of the members have been hurt for almost three decades, yet they are still looking for a church where they can be spiritually fulfilled. It is appropriate to make this valuable research in the field of practical theology as the generated knowledge, shall help the people to heal the hurts and stabilize. It is reasonable to surmise that when a miss-normal is perpetuated without any challenge it takes a toll and becomes a standard behaviour. This research refuses to remain silent and has exposed and projected a healing solution to the plight of members that the pulpit victimises whether consciously and unconsciously. The willingness of the interviewees in these case studies is also highly commended as it roots the studies in concrete realities and generates lessons that are based on real life research.
