A supervisor's plan for the improvement of the use of materials of instruction in the white schools of Seminole CountyUnknown Date (has links)
The general supervisor for Seminole County works co-operatively with the supervisor of negro schools who directs the instructional program in the negro schools. Consequently, this study is limited to a consideration of the facilities in the twelve white schools as the beginning of a county-wide program to improve materials of instruction. Recognition of the constant need to see the educational program in Seminole County as a whole, to provide first for strengthening those aspects of the program which will benefit most directly the work of each teacher in every classroom has lead the general supervisor for the county to examine critically the materials of instruction and the facilities for making them available to children and teachers alike. / Typescript. / "March, 1949." / "Submitted to the Graduate Council of the Florida State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Arts Plan II." / Advisor: R. L. Eyman, Professor Directing Paper. / Includes bibliographical references (leaves 52-54).

The supervisor's role concerning certain aspects of instructional materialsUnknown Date (has links)
"It is the purpose of the writer to explore, through this paper, the field of materials of instruction in order to ascertain how a supervisor of instruction in a small rural county might work effectively so as to improve the learning opportunities for children through a better use of materials. Through a survey of the literature in the field of materials of instruction and a consideration of the nature of supervision in a small county, the writer hopes (1) to gain an understanding of need for a variety of materials, (2) to gain a knowledge of instructional materials, (3) to see the role of the supervisor in aiding the teacher in certain aspects of materials, and (4) to make recommendations in regard to the improvement of instruction in Wakulla County as influenced by materials"--Introduction. / Typescript. / "August, 1952." / "Submitted to the Graduate Council of Florida State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Arts." / Advisor: Mildred E. A study of overcrowded conditions and their effects on the reading program at Brentwood Elementary--Junior High SchoolUnknown Date (has links)
"The problem of this study is to show how the sudden tremendous increase in the population of this community, resulting in an unpredictable overloaded classroom situation, has affected this individual school by (1) the retardation of all planned and anticipated progress in the school curriculum, when all environmental aspects, both physical and academic, seemed to be of normal status, and (2) by giving specific examples of surveys, methods, and findings that determine a possible overall trend of operative factors confined to the area of reading"--Introduction. / "January, 1955." / Typescript. / "Submitted to the Graduate Council of Florida State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Arts." / Advisor: Virgil E. Implications for improving a reading program for a sixth gradeUnknown Date (has links)
"Within these pages I shall attempt to identify the relationship between physical, mental, and social development and a suitable reading program to satisfy the needs of the average child in the sixth grade. In so doing, it becomes evident that the teacher is charged with the responsibility of taking each child where she finds him, in relation to his ability to read and comprehend, and of providing him with sufficient experiences so that when he leaves her grade for the next one, he will have the feeling of having actually accomplished a goal and will feel better prepared to attack the problems facing him in the next grade. There will be some children leaving the sixth grade who will not be reading on the seventh grade level, but it is hoped that each child will have had ample opportunity to work at his reading level without feeling frustrated; that he will have learned how to find materials and organize them in such manner that he can make worthwhile contributions to class discussions; and that he will have improved his skills in reading so that reading will be a pleasure for him as well as a means of gaining information and sharing it with others. If he can feel that reading and being able to read has made a real contribution to his personal welfare and that it is helping him adjust to his environment, the teacher may be justified in feeling that this kind of program is well worth all the effort expended by herself and the pupils"--Introduction. / Typescript. / "August. 1950." / "Submitted to the Graduate Council of Florida State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of M.A." / Advisor: Elizabeth Hamlin, Professor Directing Paper. / Includes bibliographical references (leaves 39-48).
