Duomenų bazės schemos SQL aprašo generavimas funkcinių reikalavimų specifikacijos pagrindu / Generation SQL Definition of Database Schema Using Functional Requirements SpecificationKekys, Aleksas 27 May 2005 (has links)
The data modeling phase is one of the main phases in automated system development methods. Usually data modeling is separated as independent process which success and robustness depends largely on the intuition and experience of the data analyst. This can become problematic when IS database is being designed for large scale IS. To solve this type of problems it’s proposed to accomplish data modeling phase not as a separate, poorly with the generic modeling process connected part but as one of the fundamental system development phases. Functional Requirements Specification Method is proposed for this matter. This methods main idea is to build database model according to user requirements for the functionality of the system being developed. The purpose of this work is to present a process intended for building a entity relationship diagram from the analysed functional requirements specification metamodel and generation of the SQL DDL script (relational schema) from that model. The presented model will be implemented as one of the CASE tool modules specified for the database modeling and SQL DDL script generation. Implemented tool will be verified and it’s correctness will be experimentally approved.

Teaching Vocabulary Through Data-Driven LearningShaw, Erin Margaret 10 June 2011 (has links) (PDF)
The purpose of this master's project was to write a resource book that demonstrates how teachers can use data-driven learning methods to teach vocabulary. First, a brief overview of corpus linguistics, data-driven learning, and the corpus used in this book (COCA) is given. Then, the book presents different aspects of vocabulary learning in the context of a corpus. Topics included are frequency knowledge, part of speech knowledge, morphological knowledge, synonym knowledge, collocational knowledge, and register knowledge with a chapter on each topic. For each aspect of vocabulary learning there is a section that introduces the topic to the teacher, followed by instructions on performing topic related searches in the corpus. Each chapter also includes examples and ideas for application to the vocabulary classroom. Additional chapters provide information on individual language learning, and an evaluation of the project. The goal of this project was to provide teachers with specific knowledge of vocabulary and corpus-linguistics to be able to teach less-frequently addressed aspects of vocabulary instruction and to encourage more use of corpora in the language classroom. It is hoped that after reading this book, teachers will be able to improve their vocabulary teaching and ability to use the Corpus of Contemporary American English and DDL methods in the ESL/EFL classroom. The evaluation of this project will consist of teacher reviews of the book after reading. Specifically, the questionnaire addresses readers' feelings of increased knowledge and understanding of these areas and desire to use them in the classroom.

Characterization the Structure and Function of Dawdle Gene, and Characterization of Dawdle Physical Interactors in ArabidopsisYuzuak, Seyit 11 August 2012 (has links)
The Dawdle (DDL) gene in Arabidopsis encodes a protein with a Fork Head-Associated domain. A mutation in the DDL gene causes pleiotropic phenotypes and reduced the levels of several microRNAs. However, it is not completely known whether the FHA domain of the DDL is necessary for its function. Furthermore, the interactors involved in the same signaling pathway as DDL have not been identified yet. To determine the role of FHA domain in DDL function, four Tiller mutant lines were isolated and characterized. Results from phenotypic characterization suggest that the FHA domain may require for DDL function. For interactors, the interactions between DDL and At1G68010, At2G28200, At3G68010 and At4G18372 were identified by Yeast Two Hybrid, and then confirmed by the Split Luciferase assays. In addition, T-DNA mutants for each interactor were isolated and analyzed phenotypically suggesting that the genes carrying those T-DNAs should function in the same signaling pathway as DDL.

The serine/threonine phosphatase of type-1 (PP1) is a ubiquous enzyme in the cells and tissues from several species studied and regulates numerous processes such as intermediate metabolism, mRNA splicing, transcription, and apoptosis. PP1 holoenzymes consist of a well-conserved catalytic subunit (PP1c) and one or more variable regulatory subunits. In mammals, more than fifty polypeptides that bind PP1c have been identified, originating holoenzymes with distinct cell locations and specificities. These proteins include cytosolic PP1c inhibitors such as inhibitor-1 (I-1), inhibitor-2 (I-2) and nuclear inhibitor of PP1 (NIPP-1). I-2 orthologs have also been described in Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Neurospora crassa. In the present work, we demonstrate that the genome of the social amoeba Dictyostelium discoideum has a single gene encoding for an I-2 ortholog (DdI-2). Northern blot analyses have shown that DdI-2 mRNA is expressed throughout Dictyostelium developmental cycle at variable levels. We also demonstrated that DdI-2 is a true PP1c inhibitor as its recombinant product is capable of inhibiting the phosphorylase phosphatase activity of wild-type PP1c (DdPP1c) and mutant (DdPP1cF269C) of D. discoideum and NcPP1c of N. crassa in vitro. DdPP1cF269C protein presents distint traits including higher stability, phosphorylase phosphatase activity and sensibility to calyculin A than the wild-type. These differences are originated from the replacement of a well conserved cisteine residue by a phenylalanine found in the wild-type. The wild-type and mutant DdPP1c have also been assayed in the presence of INc-1L and INc-1 which are orthologues to I-2 in N. crassa. Both purified recombinant proteins have shown inhibitory effects over phosphorylase phosphatase activities, with INc-1 being twice more potent than INc-1L. This might be due to the presence of an intron retention event in the latter that results in a insertion of 38 aminoacids. Our data also indicate that F269C mutation did not affect DdPP1c sensitivity to inhibition by all the three recombinant I-2 orthologues in vitro. Yeast two-hybrid assays using wild type (DdPP1c) and mutant (DdPP1cF269C) D. discoideum and N. crassa (NcPP1c) PP1c as preys and the putative inhibitor DdI-2 as a bait showed inequivocally that these proteins interacted in vivo. When the prey was INc-1 or INc-1L the interaction occured only with NcPP1c and was stronger with INc-1. The domains of DdI-2 involved in the interaction with DdPP1c were mapped by two-hybrid interaction assays with DdI-2 deleted mutants. These experiments have pointed out that the DdI-2 carboxi-terminus of ~100 aminoacids is not essential for the interaction but that the sum of all regions is responsible for the integrity of the interaction.

Working closely with corpora. A proposal for teaching typical adverbial collocations in Business English, based on Corpus Linguistics principlesAndrea Geroldo dos Santos 25 October 2011 (has links)
The aim of this work is to put forward a proposal for teaching typical adverbial collocations in Business English, based on Corpus Linguistics principles. To accomplish that, we compiled a monolingual corpus in British and American English, composed of business press texts as well as company reports available on-line, totalling 2,310,429 words. With the use of Wordsmith Tools 5.0 and statistical scores (T-score and Mutual Information), we found the twenty-five most frequent adverbial collocations, which were lexically and grammatically analysed concerning their patterns. Next, from these collocational units we selected the ones which could be approached in class, following the criteria set by the researcher, based on Tim Johns DDL (JOHNS, 1991), Carters modelling (CARTER, 1998) and the objections raised concerning the use of concordance lines for language teaching. Thus, we planned exercises to be applied in three pilot studies, carried out with Business English students at a private language school in São Paulo, Brazil, at the following levels: preintermediate, intermediate and upper-intermediate. The three studies demonstrated that such exercises can be successfully used in Business English classes thus confirming the relevance of Corpus Linguistics as an approach to language teaching.

This study was aimed at developing a generic application capable of generating DDL-code from three different databases: Oracle, SQL Server and DB2 by using JDBC. This research necessity origins from database administrators and developers need to effectively manage databases across different systems with different syntax and structure. The process was conducted in the IDEA IntelliJ using the java.sql-API for database operations. The result showed that despite the differences between these databases it was possible to develop a generic process for extracting DDL-code only using a JDBC connection. However, some specific adaptions were required for each database system. An observation was the managing of primary keys and indexes across the systems. This application has the potential to be developed further into a powerful tool for database management that saves time and resources. Areas for further investigation is handling of complex data types and structures and performance with large databases.
