THE DISTRIBUTION OF ORGANOTIN COMPOUNDS IN SEDIMENTS FROM THE PORTS IN KAOHSIUNG AND PINGTUNG,TAIWAN.

Lin, Yan-tzu 10 February 2006 (has links)
The upper layer sediments were collected from eight ports (22 sampling points) of Kaohsiung and Pingtung in southwest Taiwan. The organotin contents in sediment are all related to the grain size. The concentration of tributyltin (TBT) is between 0.041~4.843 ppm (as Sn) , the concentration of dibutyltin (DBT) is between 0.001~4.626 ppm (as Sn), and the concentration of monobutyltin (MBT) is between 0.001~4.908 ppm (as Sn). The Chien-chen harbor presents the hightest butyltins concentrations, and the TBT contents is much over 10-d LC50 to bivalve (2.6 ppm) and amphipoda (2.1 ppm). The concentrations of triphenyltin (TPT), diphenyltin (DPT) and monophenyltin (MPT) are between ND~0.298 ppm (as Sn), ND~0.216 ppm (as Sn) and ND~0.143 ppm (as Sn) individually. The highest phenyltin concentrations are shown in the outfall of Love River (the inflow of Love River in Kaohsiung Port). The organic carbon and nitrogen contents show significant the positive correlation (R2=0.757), and the organotin concentrations also show a positive correlation with the contents organic carbon. All the butyltins show a positive correlation with the quantities of boats. According to this study, the port of Kaohsiung presents the most serious content of butyltins and phenyltins in sediment. All the other ports also present a TBT content higher than 0.24 ppm. Therefore, it is recommended to monitor the organotin contents in the ports of this studying area.

Evidence based practice: clinical experiences of recent Doctor of Physical Therapy graduates

Palaima, Mary Margaret January 2010 (has links)
Thesis (Ed.D.)--Boston University / PLEASE NOTE: Boston University Libraries did not receive an Authorization To Manage form for this thesis or dissertation. It is therefore not openly accessible, though it may be available by request. If you are the author or principal advisor of this work and would like to request open access for it, please contact us at open-help@bu.edu. Thank you. / This study examined how recent Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) graduates, trained in Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) principles and practices during their professional academic program, implement EBP in their clinical settings. This qualitative study used semi-structured interviews to explore the experiences of recent DPT graduates and their mentors, reviewed EBP-related documents and analyzed interviewee self-assessments of EBP skills. Interviewees (N=18) included twelve recent DPT graduates and six mentors. Data analysis included open coding of interview transcripts to identify emerging themes, axial coding of patterns and relationships between themes and content expert review. A major finding was the interrelationship between organizational factors (culture, structural supports) and the roles the graduates assumed in their clinical settings, which suggest that organizational culture (values) and structure (e.g. roles, responsibilities and resources) shape the clinical practice environment and influence how the DPT graduates implement EBP in their practice. The findings also suggest that DPT graduates practicing EBP may influence the culture and structure of the clinical setting, which has implications for academics and managers in physical therapy practice settings. / 2031-01-02

Vigilância de eventos adversos pós-vacina DPT e preditores de gravidade: Estado de São Paulo, 1984-2001 / DPT post vaccine adverse events surveillance and seriousness predictors: State of São Paulo , 1984-2001

Freitas, Fabiana Ramos Martin de 14 October 2005 (has links)
A avaliação do SVEAPV-DPT foi efetuada segundo metodologia proposta pelo Center for Disease Control and Prevention. / Objective: Describe the DPT post vaccine adverse events (DPT- PVAE) notified in the state of São Paulo between 1984 and 2001; identify seriousness predictors of these events; evaluate the DPT Post Vaccine Adverse Events Vigilance System (DPT- PVAEVS).Methods: Descriptive and exploratory study of seriousness predictors. The case definition adopted was that of the PVAEVS, being it the data source as well. The evaluation of the DPT- PVAEVS was conducted according to the methodology proposed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. To identify the predictors, non-conditional logistical regression was used. Results: 6266 cases were identified, of which 53% were serious, 29,5% were hospitalized; the most frequent events were: fever <39,5ºC, hypotonic-hyporresponsive episode, local reaction and convulsion. In around 75% of the cases, the event occurred during the first six hours after vaccination. They were show to be independently associated to the gravity: the time interval inferior to one hour between the application of the vaccine and the event (OR=2,1), first dose administered (OR=5,8), personal (OR=2,2) and family (OR=5,3) neurological history. The PVAE passive system is simple, flexible, of low sensitivity, yet useful describing different types of PVAE, identifying reatogenic lots and offering subsidies to the elaboration of technical norms. Conclusions: Despite the limitations, the PVAE passive systems constitute the main instrument to study the safety of vaccines during the post license period. Nevertheless, the incorporation of new technologies is advisable, among which are municipalities and sentinel units. Besides this, it is advisable to include the introduction of the acellular DPT vaccine as a discussion point of the periodic reviews of the immunization calendar.

Acceptor-doped and co-doped BaTiO3 ceramics for MLCC applications

Lee, Hwan-wen 06 August 2012 (has links)
It is particularly intriguing in the role of the solid-state dopants, which are not only responsible for the semiconductivity, but also the dielectric properties of BaTiO3 ceramics, e.g. CaO, MgO, Y2O3, CoO and MnO2 for EIA-X7R characteristics. We have chosen to investigate three important processing parameters, oxygen partial pressure (pO2) for sintering, and two alkali-earth-metal oxides, i.e. CaO and MgO for solid-state additives in order to study how microstructure and dielectric properties are determined by them. They are used in MLCC industry for the effect in attaining X7R characteristics and protecting against or improving for dc degradation. Apart from establishing the temperature-dependent dielectric properties, i.e. temperature-coefficient of capacitance (TCC), for both qualitative and quantitative analysis, crystalline phases in sintered ceramics of tetragonal mixed with cubic, orthorhombic and rhombohedral phases are studied using XRD and Raman spectroscopy. For microscopic studies, SEM and TEM techniques, e.g. CBED and LACBED, combined with EDS are used to study phases both in core-shell. We will examine and confirm the fidelity of whether core-shell grains are induced by chemical inhomogeneity, and more importantly, if the diffuse phase transition is caused by such microstructure with direct observations, as previous studies in perovskite-related ceramics, and crystalline phase determination for these grains. It is also an objective that we investigate why and how, by what mechanism, the chemically similar alkali-earth metal oxides should impart completely different (and indeed opposite) effect in protecting against dc degradation. Keywords: MLCC, dc degradation, DPT, Raman spectroscopy, electron microscopy.

Gravel Liquefaction Assessment with the Dynamic Penetration Test at Non-Liquefaction Sites in Valdez, Alaska and L'Aquila, Italy

Linton, Nicholas James 12 April 2021 (has links)
The development of a reliable, and cost-effective in-situ method for characterizing the liquefaction potential of gravelly soils is a considerable challenge for engineers and researchers. The ability to accurately characterize the liquefaction potential of gravelly soils is an important consideration at port facilities and dams for example. The Dynamic Penetration Test (DPT) provides a reliable and cost-effective method for evaluating the liquefaction resistance of gravelly soils. Probabilistic liquefaction triggering curves based on DPT field data have been developed from data collected at 47 sites in China. However, using the DPT-based liquefaction curves for locations outside of the Chengdu plain in China where the data for the triggering curves were gathered may yield unreliable results. To improve the reliability of the DPT-based liquefaction triggering curves additional DPT field data form outside of the Chengdu plain is required. In total seven new non-liquefaction DPT case histories are presented in this report. Two of the case histories are based on DPT field data from Valdez, Alaska. The remaining five case histories were developed from DPT field data from L'Aquila, Italy. When plotted on the liquefaction triggering curves based only on the DPT data obtained in the Chengdu plain three of the seven data points plot in a position that indicates a considerable possibility of liquefaction despite these case histories being from locations where liquefaction did not occur. Roy (2021) developed new DPT-based liquefaction triggering curves with these seven new non-liquefaction case histories, DPT filed data from other sites around the world, and the DPT field data from the Chengdu plain. The three data points from the new case histories presented in this report that had a considerable probability of liquefaction when plotted on the curve developed only with the data from the Chengdu plain had a significantly lower probability of liquefaction when plotted on the new DPT-based liquefaction triggering curves. One of the data points from Valdez, Alaska decreased from a probability of liquefaction of around 50% to a probability of liquefaction of less than 30% when plotted on the new DPT-based liquefaction triggering curves. The reliability of DPT-based liquefaction triggering curves will continue to increase as the amount of available DPT data increases.
