Automatic synthesis of hardware accelerator from high-level specifications of physical layers for flexible radio / Synthèse automatique d'accélérateurs matériels depuis des spécifications de haut niveau de formes d'ondes pour la radio flexible

Ouedraogo, Ganda Stéphane 10 December 2014 (has links)
The Internet of Things (IoT) aims at connecting billions of communicating devices through an internet-like network. To this aim, the access to these things is expected to be performed via wireless technologies without using any predefined infrastructures or standards. This technology requires defining and implementing smart nodes capable to adapt to different radio communication protocols. In this thesis, we have defined a design methodology/flow, for such smart nodes, starting from their high-level specification down to their implementation in FPGA fabrics. This flow aims at improving the programmability of the waveforms by leveraging some high-level specifications. Thus, it relies on the High-Level Synthesis (HLS) for rapid prototyping of the waveforms functional blocks as well as the dataflow model of computation. Its entry point is Domain-Specific Language which enables modeling a waveform while inserting some implementation constraints for reconfigurable architectures such as the FPGAs. The flow is featured with a compiler which purpose is to produce some synthesis scripts and generate some RTL source code. The final waveform consists of a datapath and a control unit implemented as a Hierarchical Finite State Machine (HFSM).

This research has as its theme the social networks and it is aimed to understand the importance of the phenomenon of virtual social networking tools in the process of dissemination of information in libraries, through information professionals, the campuses of the Federal Institute of Bahia (IFBA). This study sought to answer the following problem: how social networks are used as a tool for dissemination of information by the librarians of the Federal Institute of Bahia? The assumption that the use of technological tools on the part of librarians, disregarded the process of dissemination of information, the lack of an adequate policy to encourage the use of social networks was raised. Methodology was used as the case study approach to exploratory research and qualitative methodological procedure with content analysis of questionnaires. The research subject is composed of librarians (as) IFBA using social networking tools: Porto Seguro, Eunapólis, Paulo Afonso, Vitória da Conquista, Santo Amaro, Valença and Salvador. The ultimate intention is to contribute to provide new contribution in the network, to helping federal employees to disseminate the use of social tool in the institutional environment more appropriately. The main results point to the use of Facebook is to disseminate information and content and then the professional interactions. The main barriers faced and obstacles in the implementation of social networks were political, structural and logical networks.

I am the Greatest Driver in the World! : -Does self-awareness of driving ability affect traffic safety behaviour?

Sommarström, Erik January 2015 (has links)
This simulator study aims to investigate if there is a relationship between self-awareness of driving ability and traffic safety behaviour. Self-awareness in this study is accurate self-evaluation of one’s abilities. By letting 97 participants (55-75 years old) drive the simulator and answering the Driver Skill Inventory (DSI; Warner et al., 2013) as well as the Multidimensional locus of control (T-loc; Özkan & Lajunen, 2005). A measure of self-awareness was computed using the residuals from regression line. Furthermore, this measure could show if a participant over-estimated or under-estimated their ability. Four self-awareness measures were made. The self-awareness measures were compared to traffic safety behaviour. Three different traffic safety measures were computed using specific events in the simulator scenario. The self-awareness measures were grouped into three groups; under-estimators, good self-awareness and over-estimators. These groups were then compared to each other with respect to traffic safety. A multivariate ANOVA was made to test for differences between the self-awareness groups but no significant main difference was found. The results showed no difference in traffic safety behaviour given the different levels of self-awareness. Furthermore, this could be a result of the old age of the sample group as self-awareness may only be relevant in a learning context. The conclusion of the study is that the analysis shows that there is no difference between over-estimators and under-estimators of driving ability, at least not in experienced older drivers.

The management of security officer's performance within a private security company in Gauteng

Horn, Heather Elizabeth 01 1900 (has links)
This study was undertaken to investigate whether there is a performance management system within the security industry, applicable specifically to Security Officers. To investigate which performance factors, apply to security officers and how security officers perceived performance management. The management of Security Officers’ performance is an aspect of management which has not garnered much interest compared to other operational and management areas – hence the paucity of research on the performance management of security officers. They make a major contribution to the labour market with 7 949 security companies listed on the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSIRA) website, and 2 973 companies (37%) based in Gauteng alone. However, despite the high number of companies, the industry has attracted the least attention in terms of performance. The overall research purpose of this study was to explore the management of security officers’ performance in a private security company operating in South Africa, focussing specifically on a company based in the Gauteng Province. The scope of the study was aimed at investigating security officers’ perception of performance management and to link performance to actual job performance and security officers’ perceived work performance. The researcher also investigated whether biographical factors had an influence on security officers’ performance. A quantitative research methodology was utilised to conduct the study. The main research instruments were primary data, comprising a self-developed questionnaire and secondary data, comprising company records. The respondents consisted of security officers whom had been subjected to the Dependability and Safety Instrument (DSI) during the period 2013 to 2015, in the region, who were still employed at the company at the time of the study. The findings of the study identified 11 performance management factors and indicated links between self-reported and actual work performance. Biographical characteristics did not seem to influence the work performance of the security officers. However, the results did indicate that employees with less tenure were more prone to disciplinary action by the company and those with higher levels of education were prone to fewer disciplinary actions and dismissals based on AWOL. The study identified the areas that play a significant role in the management of security officers’ performance. The identification of performance management factors in the security industry and security officers’ perceptions about performance management should enable HR officers to develop and implement a performance management system that will contribute to better service delivery to both internal and external clients in this industry. / Business Management / M.
