The Effects of a DVD counselling programme in preventing the breakdown of a partner relationships of Master's students in Clinical Psychology

Nell, Erika January 2010 (has links)
Thesis (MSc (Clinical Psychology)) -- University of Limpopo, 2010. / The Clinical Psychology training program at the University of Limpopo (Medunsa Campus) is based on the theoretical paradigm of General Systems Theory. The functioning of systems in terms of patterns, structure, organization and relationships can therefore also be applied to the trainee and his/her partner relationship system which is characterized by circular patterns of interaction. Ernst (2008) states that within the context of General Systems theory it became evident that the trainee does not function in isolation but as part of a system. The trainee undergoes significant changes throughout the training year if training is effective and this in turn may also impact on the trainee's partner relationship. This investigation was done to establish the effect of a DVD Counselling Programme on the partner-relationship of the trainee in Clinical Psychology with his/her partner/spouse. This is done in order to provide feedback to the trainers of the Clinical Psychology training at Medunsa. This may also possibly assist in establishing a more scientifically founded aid for the trainees in Msc. Clinical Psychology and their partners/spouses. It was a qualitative research project, in which person centered interviews were held with participants and thematically analyzed by three independent clinicians. The entire research project and findings are contextualized in accordance with General Systems Theory. The results indicated that the DVD had a moderate effect on 4/6 of the sample population that reported that their relationship improved in respect of the nature and quality based on mutual understanding, emotional closeness, obtaining of relational skills, effective communication and awareness regarding the impact of the training year on their relationship. The impact of the DVD was somewhat limited in that not all the participants watched it and the manner iIi which some of the trainees approached their partners/spouses, which may have had an effect on how the DVD is received and experienced.

Removable media software engineering

Zabava, Bruce A. 22 February 2011 (has links)
This report focuses on software solutions that are fully contained on CD, DVD, or USB storage devices. When the removable media is selected as the boot device on a computer system, it will launch its own operating system and then execute the actions it was written to perform. Organizations often have many types of removable media solutions that are engineered to perform various tasks; however, this report will focus on only two types of removable media projects that are often needed by original equipment manufacturers (OEMs): the end user reinstallation media (EURM) and the field service reinstallation media (FSRM). In this document we explain the purpose of EURM and FSRM solutions, the engineering methods used to create them, what engineering measurements can be used to achieve project goals, what to consider when implementing process improvements, and finally how to analyze the results of said process improvements. / text

The real-time image focusing technique via DVD pickup head

Chiu, Shao-Chun 16 July 2007 (has links)
Due to maturity of experimental technology in recent years, automatic optical inspection (AOI) is used in many industrial applications to replace visual inspection with high-speed and reliable characteristics. Because standard industrial AOI instruments are very expensive, this work introduces a low-cost and high performance AOI instrumentation technique for industrial applications. In this study, we develop an image auto focusing system based on the pickup head of DVD player. We alter the optical path of pickup head and integrate the CCD camera in this system. The idea is to use focus error signal in the linear focus region to estimate the distance between pickup head and object surface. In addition, a capacitance gauging instrument is used to measure the displacement. A PC based control law is then developed by using the PZT to drive the auto focusing system. By setting up such a low-cost system, the experimental results show that the time required for focusing performance is within 0.4s in most cases while the longest focusing time is about 1s. It is hoped that the results of this study can be implemented for real industrial AOI applications.

Life is a One-Way Ticket: Herman Leonard's Eightieth Birthday Celebration

Ingmire, George 21 May 2004 (has links)
Life is a One-Way Ticket is a twenty-three minute documentary about jazz photographer Herman Leonard's 80th birthday party. The event took place at Rosy's Jazz Hall, a club in the uptown section of New Orleans where musicians including Ella Fitzgerald, Dizzy Gillespie and Stevie Wonder once performed. Within the documentary, I show the celebration as an analogy for the life of Herman Leonard. In short but moving passages, Herman Leonard reflects upon the nature of his longevity, the world today, and the "luck" he has had with photography. In addition to the voice of Herman Leonard, interviews with Herman Leonard's friends and family show him as both a world-class photographer and the down-toearth human being. Upon completion of the documentary, the final cut will be authored onto a DVD. This will allow for extra features, including an extended interview with Herman Leonard.

Subtitles – To be or not to be - A Study of English Listening Comprehension

Clausson, David Unknown Date (has links)

The aim of this study is to investigate how subtitles might affect students understanding of spoken English. A comparison was made between four classes at Polhemskolan, an upper secondary school in Lund, Sweden. Each class was shown two different scenes from the movies …And Justice for All and The Verdict. Two of the classes were shown the scenes with subtitles and the remaining two without subtitles. During the test the students also filled out a questionnaire with questions about the information disclosed in the scenes. The students’ results were discussed with the help of the Acquisition and Learning theory and different theories dealing with listening comprehension.
